Help!!! Too good to be true? Need a reality check...
Hi all,
This is my first post here, I'll go on to explain why..
I've been trying to get pregnant with my husband for over a year now. I was told at age 15 it was highly unlikely I'd ever conceive naturally (I won't go into the ins and outs of why - it still hurts to relive it all to be honest)
Recently my husband and I agreed to go to the doctor in the new year for help, but until then we've still been trying.
The last few days I've been knocked sideways with a gastro bug. In the midst of this, I noticed my period hasn't come. I'm NEVER regular, but I had symptoms about a week ago with the usual stomach cramps, a bit of a back ache and sore boobs. The period never came.
I'm the QUEEN of pregnancy tests and take them all the time. I took one this morning out of interest, and it came up with a feint positive result. I took another about 20 mins later and it was a stronger positive. I then dashed to the chemist and took a clearblue digital one and it said pregnant.
I'm too scared to believe it's real! Is these a way these can all be false positives? Please someone - help me here! I've neerv followed fertility forums before as I haven;t wanted to torture myself. I never really thought I was ever going to concieve naturally and seeing all my friends having babies is hard enough. Even joing this forum and asking this question is making me freak out! I don't want to get carried away here...
Re: Help!!! Too good to be true? Need a reality check...
I think false positives don't really happen, really really rare if they do happen at all. And if they do happen they don't happen on 3 different tests on the same day

huge congratulations hun, how exciting!!! i would book a DR appt ASAP & ask for a quantitative HCG (it will give you an exact number of what your HCG is), then get the same test done 2 days later to make sure the numbers are going up
Re: Help!!! Too good to be true? Need a reality check...
Thanks so much guys - I'm a little blown away right now. I'm in shock!
I think al the typos in my first post show how all over the place I am right now - LOL!
My hubby is FIFO so is only just on his way home now. He can't be here soon enough!!!
I've only just moved to a new area so haven't registered with a local doctor yet. Need to do this asap now of course! oops!
What happens when I see a dr.? I'm assuming blood tests then will need to wait for results. How long is the wait? I'm pretty clueless - I never thought this would happen for me (certainly not naturally anyway), so never really looked into this bit. I've not got a clue!
Thanks again so much! You have no idea how helpful this is posting on here xx

just book in to see any dr, tell them you have just taken a pregnancy test & it's positive & you're in shock as you were told at a young age you would have trouble conceiving naturally.
ask them to give you a blood test & make sure it's "quantitative HCG" as that will tell you your exact HCG levels, where as the "qualitative" only tells you yes or no. when i have my bloods done i always find out the same day - like this morning i had blood taken at 11.30am, will get my results at 9.15pm.

Go to drs they might get you to do a pee test at the surgery don't be alarmed if it negative there because there no where near as sensitive
Either way my dr gives me a blood test form for hcg and a bunch if other things like iron and stuff and a form for a dating scan at 8 weeks and then I ring for results at the end of day or next day depending on when it's done and ask for a specific number not just pos or neg some places you might need another appointment to get your results
Tell them your health history too this will tell them if they need to test for anything else that might help with the pregnancy
