    hormone tests-confused

    Hi Everyone,

well I am new, and DP and I have been together for almost 6 years. We both feel (despite our ages I know) our relationship is ready for a third person. (some get lucky in love young, some dont thats the way it is I guess ).

Anyhow, GP wants me to have some blood tests and I am really confused as to when I am meant to have them. She said to have FSH, LH , Progesterone and Oestradiol after my period, then a Progesterone on day 21 to see if I ovulated.

Info I have read suggests some of these tests need to be done on CD3, but that one is usually the Anti Mulleran (AMH) for ovarian stores. Mine is just straight out levels.

I see her again in 3 weeks for the results, but Im not sure if I should have already had them?

    Can anyone help.

    Thanks

    Junipear

    Hi Junipear!

    Welcome to BB

Fertility tests (AMH, FSH, E2, etc) are done on CD3.

Progesterone (to test if you've ovulated) is CD 21.

    Hope that helps!

Adding to N2L's response, if you O early or late, the progesterone is best tested at 7dpo. I tend to O around CD17 (30-32 day cycle), so I'd be doing one at CD24 instead of CD21. If you O at CD14 (as per the textbook 28 day cycle) then CD21 is correct.

Are you charting temps or using OPKs to try to track ovulation? If not, then I'd stick with CD21 for the progesterone.

I was told AMH can be done any time (and mine was tested just before AF was due (12dpo)). It also seems to be a fairly recent addition to the testing regime. Maybe your GP hasn't started using it yet? Mine was never tested when we were TTC#1 (2007-2010). It wasn't until I returned to the FS last month that mine was tested.

    *edit*
I just re-read and noted that she wants progesterone tested both times. That's not out of the ordinary. I've always had LH, progesterone and oestradiol tested together during the follicular phase.

    Hi

    Thanks ladies.

I am at CD 8 today and was going to have them on Monday CD 10.

I have been following my cycles and my normal cycle is 30 days with a 16 day Luteal phase. Which means I ovulate 16 days before my next period.
My last cycle was right on the knocker, because when I counted back to when I had jotted down 'Ovulating tonight', it was 16 days exactly to CD1. So that sounds promising.

Just thought Id mention, I have this app on my phone, and I thought- oh great- Im going to get pregnant with an iphone! (cycle diary app) lol

Oh well, I guess if its wrong she will just have to order more?

    Thanks heaps

Is there any way you can wait for your next cd3? Especially for the FSH? It wont be an accurate indication of your fertility if you do it at other time in the cycle.

I'd also agree with waiting for CD3 for the FSH/LH/P4/E2 test.

From what you have said about your cycle, sounds like CD21 would be right for your progesterone (P4), so you could do that this cycle and the rest early in the next cycle. They don't have to be in the same cycle (at least, that I'm aware of).

    Yes, I'd go at 7dpo.

    Doc Says..

    Hi Everyone.

I rang the nurse at the Docs and she spoke to my GP. She says have the progesterone on the CD27, 7dpo.
    Im predicting AF around 6th/9.

I am 100% sure I am still ovulating, I've even had scans for other things and they have found the old follicle.

The only thing that would be a problem is if I have PCOS where the old follicle doesn't disintergrate and leaves blockages and scar tissue. However, my scan revealed I have a normal forward sloping uterus. 'Yay'..

    Cheers

    Excellent News

    Hi Everyone.

    Well, I am totally shocked

I went to the GP today to get all those blood levels back- and I am still fertile!

CD10 LH, FSH, Progesterone, and Oestrodiol I had done, 'all normal'.........Progesterone 7dpo- on CD 27..a healthy 400mmol.

At 41 there is still hope!

    Bye for now

    Hi N2L

All I remember is her words I think I was in total shock! - "Yes, all your bloods are on the mark for the time of your cycle then your progesterone shot up to 400 so you are ovulating......"

Wow wow wow.........I haven't stop smiling all day.

I'm convinced now-It's meant to be.
