Not sure if this is the right place for this or not..but I have to share.....
DH & I decided a few weeks ago that I would stop taking the pill YAY! We are not TTC until March/April next year but I wanted a few months off the pill before we started trying.
I haven't got AF yet, but as soon as I do, I will start charting my cycle (I am actually exciting about be able to start charting - How sad is that!!)
I also had blood tests yesterday & my Rubella (sp?) is fine!!
We are trying hard not to tell anyone that we are thinking about TTC soon, so I just had to share!!
No doubt I will be asking lots of Q's in the near future, seeing as this is our first time...
Hey LOTSA HUGS i wish you all the absolute best with TTC next year
And good on you for checking your rubella, etc ... you'd be surprise most of my friends never did when they were trying for a 1st bub ... sadly one even contracted chicken pox & as a result lost her son a fair way into her pregnancy.
So, i'm so glad you have got yourself all checked out & ready to go. It's such peace of mind for you both too & it helps that your GP knows of your plans so she/he can help with any information ... AND of course we all at BB are willing & able to help you too
When i was trying i kept away from coffee & tea (well, i had the rare decaf) ... and getting to a healthy body weight helps too.
I was pregnant at 39 (had bub at 40) with my 1st baby ... all naturally ... so i'm more than happy to help
Cheers for now from Lorelle (smiles4u)
P.S - My only regret was when i told some friends i was trying to fall pregnant with my 1st ... well, cause i wasn't falling pregnant for sometime it got my down as it got to the point they would ask me each & everytime if i was pregnant ... So maybe just tell only a couple of friends rather than most of them
How exciting for you!!
I was on the pill up until a few months ago, then my DF and I finally decided it was time to stop it. We thought it would take at least a month or two for the drugs to get out of my system and have everything back to normal again...that wasn't to be the case, and I fell pg pretty much within a couple of weeks of going off it. We were both very shocked, thinking it was going to take at least a month!
Good luck with your journey, the ladies on here are all very lovely and helpful, I find it an excellent support system, especially as I don't have many close friends of my own.
Thanks for your messages ladies. It's nice to know that there are people here to chat to & share my journey with.
AF arrived Xmas Eve, so I'm officially charting my first cycle off the pill!! I am not doing temp or CM yet, mainly just charting to see how long my cycle is. Do you think that's ok?? Or should I be charting temp & CM now...?? even though we wont be TTC til April (would LOVE to start TTC NOW, but we are going overseas in April, so have decided to wait until then to start)
Would love to hear from anyone else in similar situation - this waiting to TTC is killing me!!!!
Thanks again ladies
Hi! I stopped taking the pill in April after being on it for ages! Dr said to wait 3 months before ttc but the waiting got to me too, so we started earlier.
I always wrote down my AF days on a calendar, even before ttc as I was always very irregular and looking for any kind of pattern. Now, I chart CM and use a saliva ovulation tester but don't temp or use OPK's - just a personal choice as I'm trying not to drive myself crazy by becoming too obsessed with ttc. Knowing you're body's signs is actually quite empowering, I have found.
Smiles4u is right about telling people you are ttc. I really, really wanted to tell everybody, shout it from the roof tops! But, I'm really glad I haven't as it's taken awhile and the few people I have told drive me crazy every time I see them with their whispered, "Are you preg yet?' comments. Havning said that, you definitely need to tell someone, which is why BB is so great.
You might also want to start taking folic acid about 3 months before ttc, it's pretty important in the first trimester and if you wait until you know you're preg, then half of that time has already gone!
Good luck on your ttc journey.
Hey there, this is my first post on this site although I have been reading posts on here for a while.
I have been on the pill for 10 years and have just came off the pill with the hope to start TTC in May. From what I remember my cycle used to be quite long around 35 days, so I think I need to chart it for a while.
Is there any reason I should visit my GP before TTC? Do they need to do any tests I should be aware of?
Hi JLeigh29. I am kinda 'charting' using FF. Basically just entering my AF details at the mo, not worrying about CM or temps yet...Just wanted to get an idea of my cycle length etc after coming off the pill. (AF arrived yesterday, which is spot on for 28 day cycle!! YAY! Second 28 cycle since coming off the pill!) LOL
Hello there scarypinkfairy! Welcome to BB. I'm only relatively new here too
I went to my GP and had a blood test just to be sure. I think they mainly check your ruebella (sp?).
It is also recommended that you take folate anywhere from 3 months before TTC....so maybe you should start thinking about that. I have just started taking Blackmores Concieve Well Gold tablets which contain the recomended dose of folate.
It's all sooo overwhelming!
Good luck with everything. Probably see you around here as we're going to be TTC around the same time Feel free to PM me if you need any advice or just want to chat about how exciting the "pre TTC" journey is!!!
Hey yeah we will be TTC around the same time so we should stay in touch. This website seems so helpful as I don't have any family to help me and very few of my friends have babies.
I have already bought my pregnancy vitamins ( 2 months ago!!), I will start taking them next cycle. I have just started charting my cycle, only doing CM atm. Coming off the pill was quite liberating but scary at the same time!
I had a rubella vaccination when I was 13 but not sure how long the immunity lasts for, and the fewer blood tests I have to have the better! Maybe I will bring this up with the doctor then.
Good luck anyway, and will probably speak to you soon!
It's very exciting to read your posts. It seems many of us are in the same boat.
I was also on the pill for 10 years and stopped last August. DH and I are getting hitched in 8 weeks so as soon as we're on the honeymoon it's all on! I can't wait.
I went to my GP as soon as I went off the pill for a check-up. She found out I was border-lining being aenemic (sp) so I was put on iron supplements straight away. I've been taking folic acid for months now, too.
Make sure you look at the back of your supplements, particularly iron. You don't want anything that has Vitamin A.
Wanted to wish you good luck with your TTC journey.
I would suggest that you do start recording your temps over the next few months so you can pin point exactly when you ovulate and to make sure you are actually ovulating. I found when I started recording my temps instead of ovulating on day 14 I was o'ing a week later which explains why it took us a while to fall pregnant as I was timing things all wrong. It was only observing over a couple of months what my temps did I actually worked things out! If you can do it now while the pressure is off and you are not TTC then this might save some frustration when you start trying.
Maybe I should start charting my temp as well.... Not too keen on checking CM though Even though I can't wait to get a I'm almost tempted to just "see how we go" for the first few months...not check temp/CM. I feel like that could make it less 'romantic' (I know I'm being corny now!!!), but you know what I mean...?!? If after a couple of months still no luck, then will prob start charting. .....decisions, decisions......
Good luck to all, I'm glad there's a few of us pre-TTC out there. Much easier to talk about it on here, than with friends (as they don't know we are TTC soon!)
hey, i feel the same as you don't worry, but if i can get a rough idea of when i o then it will be better for us to know when to do bd either side of the day. in all fairness i'm not sure it will be that 'romantic' but what can you do. i figured it's easy to chart cm and not gross at all!if nothing happens for a while after ttc then i will start with temps.
i saw the dr. last week and she said the best thing to is not worry or you won't o at all!
Hi everyone,
I just came off the pill and am just bursting to be able to start ttc. we are not going to start trying properly for a couple of months but if it happens earlier then i certainly won't complain.just thought it would be nice to have some other hopeful mums to chat to in this tense wait.
liz
Just thought I'd share with you all that I did a new ticker last night and it's only 1 month, 3 weeks and 2 days til we start TTC!!!! YAY!!!!
When are you all planning on starting to TTC? We should try to stay in touch if we are all trying to convieve around the same time....We will be mid - late March (I dated my ticker about a week before I think I am due to 'o', cos I figure we'll be that excited that we will probably "start" about then) LOL
Is this everyones first time TTC? It's our first! I am soooo excited.
Does anyone have a 'names' list??? haha I do! We will have to share our lists
Ok, I know I sound SUPER excited & totally off the "off the pill" topic ....Sure sign I should finish this post now
*lotsahugs*
I stopped taking the pill in Nov 08 and still have not had a period. I have had blood tests. Internal ultrasounds / pap smears - everything! I feel like a stuffed Xmas Turkey ha ha
Everything is 'in working order' but Im just not ovulating or cycling which is so fustrating - did any of you have such a wait from going off the pill to getting a period? and what was the casue of it???
I am due to see the gyno again this thurs and that is when (fingers crossed) I will be put on provera and clomid to get things going as is so fustrating!
hey reggie b, that's disheartening but try not to stress. the doctor told me not to stress or you might not o. but that's easy for me to say i suppose.
after stopping the pill i seemed to have a regular 31 day cycle. but that was just the first month so we'll see what happens this month.
good luck!
Hello ladies! I have been MIA for a little while. Busy with work etc...
We are all getting much closer to our TTC joruneys...!!! Tomorrow DH & I can say "we are TTC THIS MONTH!!!!" YAY
DH came home from work the other & said he really liked the name Mackenzie. I was so excited (sounds silly!) but he said he had been thinking about babies & names all day! How cute
Anyway, better head off as I'm going out for dinner with girlfriends
