I'm casting a wide net for advice, opinions and experience on hypothyroidism.
I have been TTC #1 for 8 months and been seeing a FS for the last 6 weeks or so. I was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism (it was a bit of a suprise) and just saw an Endocronoligst yesterday. I've been put on some medication. The doctor said that hypothyroidism can affect fertility and the evidence for the medication helping with conception is inconclusive. She did say that it will positively impact upon fetal neural development should I fall pregnant. She went onto say that she sees many patients on IVF who are having repeated IVF attempts.
I'm currently on clomiphene and progesterone to help out with late ovulation and short luteal phase. I'm also taking a bunch of naturopathic medications due to some other vitamin deficiencies.
Does anyone else have hypothyroidism, and what is your experience with fertility? What prognosis and types of treatment plans are people on.
I had my throid removed a few years back and ended up going through IVF to conceive, though for different reasons.
There is some difference of opinion about what levels are appropriate for conception & maintaining pregnancy. You'll probably find you get a different answer from different doctors, unfortunately.
