A fertility equation
If 100 couples try to get pregnant in January, about 20 will conceive, leaving 80 to try again in February. If another 20 percent (or 16 couples) conceive, then 66 will be trying again in March. Continuing the one-in-five success rate, by the end of April roughly half will have successfully conceived. At this rate, after seven months 78 couples would have conceived (leaving 22 not yet pregnant).



But Dr Tremellen is very upbeat about couples' chances of conceiving, saying that while 85 percent will get pregnant naturally within a year, for those who go on to seek help, many will end up with a baby — in spite of what nature has thrown at them.



The Internet is filled with a wide range of statistics and many studies have been undertaken in this area. So here are some figures:

* On average, 15-20 percent of all couples trying to get pregnant will not conceive in the first year of trying.

* If the timing is perfect, the mucous is receptive, the egg is ready and the sperm are healthy, there is a 20-25 percent chance of getting pregnant naturally in any given month.

* According to one study, 25 percent of couples get pregnant in the first month of trying, while 60 percent of couples trying to get pregnant do so within six months. This study also said that up to 90 percent of couples will conceive within 18 months of trying.

sooooooo depressing that is!!!!! LOL I can't even read the article you linked either but just wanted to say I think that's about right as DD took us 8mths to conceive and I worked out "approx" how many times we would have had sex before she was conceived and yeah it was around that figure

In other words, if you conceive within the first 6mths you are just REALLY lucky!!!!!

Wow very interesting facts CBG!! I don't even want to add up how many times we have DTD whilst TTC! but now out of curiosity I'm gonna have to try and add it up!

Wow PZ!! Your'e on the ball, that would be an average of 33 days each month over 12mnths even though I know you've trying longer than 12mnths, but still WOW!

Lol Buggzter, we've been ttc 18 months. We went at it a lot more than we do now, in the beggining of ttc it's all so fun and exciting In the last 9 months it's been 117, so we clearly dtd a lot more in the first 12 months than we do now lol.

ETA And just looking back on the charts of the first 6 months, there are SOO many days of twice or even three times a day

Seems like a have a large radar for TTC articles and shows segments, cause that is all that I seem to hear about atm, that and the election :rollseyes:

DF and I have DTD 403 times since TTC

We have DTD roughly 200 times since TTC (this is our 7th month), but like you, we had many days of DTD more then once a day!
We are also DTD less then we were at the start. We are trying the SMEP method.
