    Newbie needing some advice

    Hi everyone

I'm brand new to this forum and don't know much about pregnancy or conception. I hope I've posted in the right section. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

My partner and I aren't actively trying to conceive at the moment, but we would still be happy if we found out I am expecting, even though it's earlier than planned. I am currently 6 days late for my period (based on my average cycle). I am occasionally 2-3 days late, but usually I don't even notice because I have obvious pre-menstrual symptoms (cramps, overemotional, etc) for about a week before my period arrives, so I know it's coming and I don't worry about it. This month however, I have had no pre-menstrual symptoms at all. I don't particularly feel like I'm having pregnancy symptoms either though.. a couple of days before I was due, I started having these light-headed, dizzy spells, which have continued off and on since then, but I attributed those to tiredness as I was on night duty at work at the time. And just over the past couple of days, I've had some loss of appetite and occasional waves of nausea (they don't last long) and I've noticed myself feeling like I need to pee more often. However, I don't know if those symptoms are just psychological, because I'm thinking about the possibility that I could be pregnant.

I have taken two HPTs (one on Saturday at 4 days late and one today at 6 days late) and both were negative. I'm just wondering when I should test again and when it would be time to go to the GP if my period doesn't arrive. I don't want to seem silly if I go to the GP too early.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice you can give me!

    Hi and welcome to BB.

If it helps, I have odd cycles and am often a few days later than expected. Up to 2 weeks late and not pregnant sometimes. But I'm used to that! I also get a lot of psychosomatic symptoms even when I know I can't be pg if I'm late.

First, have you tested first thing in the morning? Early morning urine is more concentrated, so try to catch the first pee of the day. With no PMS symptoms, you could just be having a long cycle. However, you also don't want to be pregnant and not knowing it! I'd take folic acid/pregnancy tablets just in case and test again in another 2-3 days if you have no PMS symptoms and still have pg symptoms.

I was 2w late when I tested with Liebs, I was convinced I was just having a long cycle again! Hope you don't have to wait that long. Best of luck to you.

    Hi aurora,

Have you not long come off any types of birth control by any chance? Coming off that can also change your cycles and cause a range of different symptoms as your body adjusts to hormone levels.

Do another test first thing in the morning.
