    Ovulating every 2nd month?

    Hi all
I am quietly going insane here trying to figure out what my body is doing. We have been TTC for almost 12 months now and charting for 5 months (just started #5 on Tuesday).

My question is: is it possible to only be ovulating every 2nd month?

My first month of charting was textbook - perfect temp drop associated with a +ve O test. Second month - no temp drop at all, -ve O tests. Third month - temp drop and +ve O tests again. Last month (fourth) - no temp drop and all O tests were -ve.

I came off the pill in December 05 because of too many side affects (mainly migraines at the end of each AF). Before that I had been on Implanon for 3 months - it was removed in October 04 after spending most of the time bleeding and gained 6kg! I was also diagnosed with a border-line operable cyst on my right ovary (30 mm long) which was causing me a lot of pain at the time.

Is is likely that this cyst may have damaged my right ovary and that is why I seem to only be ovulating every 2nd month?

I have talked to my partner about going and seeing my doctor about this, because some days I am so frustrated that I become very emotional, particularly when everyone else around me seems to be falling pregnant! He was not keen on seeing the doctor as he wanted to know where it would all end... he doesn't want to try IVF because has heard so many horror stories about relationships breaking up because of the stress of the treatment. Not that I am suggesting IVF - just that maybe we should investigate what is going on with my body.

After several weeks he has finally come around that we should go and see my doctor. Unfortunately, the receptionist tells me she is away until 20th November! I feel like the universe is conspiring against me at the moment. Having turned 39 in July, I don't feel like I have much time to waste. I guess I am looking for some support and anyone else's experiences of this on-again off-again ovulation pattern that I seem to have?

Thanks in advance ladies, I know you all so much more experience in this than I do!

I would say you are right that you are only oing on the left side i would be going to the dr.. They say if you have been ttc for 12 mths then you should see a dr... I wish you all the best and i hope it all goes well... I hope someone with a bit more experience can also help you..

A fertility doctor or Gyno can do a simple cd 21 blood test where they check the progesterone level to determine if you have ovulated.

I suppose on the positive side of seeing the specialist is at least you are aware of whether you have a problem and if so, just what it is, whereas not knowing would be causing just as much stress in itself.

    Hi all

Thanks for your replies. I will try to see another doctor this week who can hopefully give me some answers. You are right... not knowing is almost as stressful in itself.

Take care and good luck to everybody. Here's hoping we will all get the best Christmas present of all - a

I agree - you usually alternate the side the egg is released from every month - so if you're only releasing an egg from one side that would cause you to only O every two months.
I think you should get it checked out as well, good luck

    Cheryl,

You definately need to get that cyst checked out. I've already had one removed (was 8cm) and have just found out I have another one (2cm) which will be removed on 21 Nov.

Trust me when I tell you that they can really mess up your cycles and the chances of you concieving. I actually did fall prg with the 8cm cyst but lost my baby at 12 weeks. My new FS thinks the two may be related. Now obviously mine was a bit more serious than yours but you do not want to leave yours if it is going to get worse and possibly damage your ovary.

Thanks everybody for your replies, and Willow for sharing your experience. Your loss makes me even more determined to try to sort this all out. It was 2 years ago now that I had the cyst diagnosed but no treatment or follow-up was recommended (military doctor!).

I have an appointment to see my GP on Tuesday so hopefully we can get started on some forward road. At the moment I just feel like I have spent almost a year going around in circles!!

Willow, good luck with your next cyst removal. I have no idea about the procedure but I hope it is not too painful.

I will check back in when I have some news from the doctor.

    Take care all.
