    Ovulating while breastfeeding?

Not sure whether I should have put this in the BF section but anyway....

Just wondering how you would know when your ovulating if you breastfeeding and dont have you period? What are my chances of getting pregnant? Hypothetically if I wanted to?

Generally if you don't have your period then you're not ovulating. Except for the first time you ovulate before your period returns of course. (Some people ovulate without periods but that's not the norm)
So if you catch that first egg on it's way out, chances are good! I know i am ovulating b/c i get a little pain, and my CM changes. Oh and i am definitely up for a bit more action when i'm ovulating, so that's a bit of a sign for me.

Do you know your fertile signs? Mucous or cramps?

I was suspect I was and when R was fussy for a few days it confirmed I had! She was 9 months though and for me that seems to be my natural body clock post bub.

Over the years, I've learnt to recognise when i'm ovulating by noticing the mucous change and I actually can tell which ovary is releasing an egg (it sort of aches).

What are your chance of getting pregnant? Well, i've had one period in 4 years (had one in October 2005 then not again till April 2009) and have conceived twice (am currently pregnant with bubba #3)!!

We managed to fall pg with DD#3 whilst b/f without getting my first AF post birth . Looking back now, increased CM was my only indication.

I was a pro at recognising the signs pre-DD (ache, increased CM and libido) but now I am not so sure. Haven't had AF return and am thinking of bub #2 also.

Some women have to wean I am told before they will ovulate, while others are lucky to be able to conceive whilst still bfeeding (I hope that's me!)

I became pg while breastfeeding DS when he was about 12 months. I didn't get AF back and - to me - there were no notable signs of ovulation. I was BFing morning and night only at that point. We weren't using contraception, but that's by-the-by.

You can get pregnant while BFing and without AF ... take it from one who knows

PS: The worst of getting pregnant without having had AF is trying to convince the GP and Ob you have no idea when you ovulated (... and they looked at me funny when I said my last known period was approx 22 months prior!! )
