The cost seem to vary form place to place and state to state... Anywhere from completely medicare funded, to $300 with no rebate!

It's usually a part of the bigger hospitals, and it's called Andrology.

Usually your Specialist or GP will get your partner tested if they find nothing wrong with you, or before starting drugs like Clomid. If you have been TTC for longer than 12 months (usually) that's when the tests start...

    Good Luck!

Thanks for that info Mel.....when I last went to the doctor, he suggested getting hubby tested, just to rule out that there wasn't anything wrong with him. He didn't say we should wait 12 months or anything like that!! wonder if we could get tested "just because"?? :-k

I was diagnosed with PCOS, and the OB wanted DH tested straight away just to rule out any probs with him. Coz there was no point treating me with ovulation drugs etc if there was a prob with DH.

We went to Westmead IVF and it cost $60, and we got some back from Medicare. Don't know how much. I have heard that some places bulk bill tho.

As for what happens... well... DH fills up the cup 8-[ and they test that there's a good number of spermies, as well as check that they're healthy and swimming nicely! (btw.. he can go into the cup at home, as long as you can get it to them within an hour. So he doesn't have to go into some closed in little room with a dirty magazine. lol)

    Good luck with it all!

My DH was tested a couple of months ago. He just went to his GP who ordered the test and it was fully covered by Medicare.
We had been trying about 8 months at the time and his doctor was happy to do the test.

Just don't do our trick Kat..

We paid $80 for a home sperm test and it showed up negative yet look @ where we are now??

If you are really really worried i'd go to your doctor and ask to get it done..

Kat I was talking to Hubby last night and if we get a BFN this month he is going to get tested as a just in case. I had endo removed recently and we know that it may take a while with my issues but since the test is not invasive for DH we figure he may as well get tested now to make sure he is ok or not ok depending on the results.
