    Mid Cycle Bleeding and Vitex

    Hi There,

After losing my baby boy in November, i am doing everything to get my body back in shape in the hope that we can ttc again later this year.

In doing research i found that vitex is helpful in symptoms of PMS, hormonal imbalance and regulating cycles, so i thought id give it a try.

This week i started to bleed, and it appears my period has come, but the weird part is that its about 14 days early.

I was wondering if anyone has tried Vitex and what their experiences have been?

I am hesitant to continue with this herb, as i have been through hell and back the last few months and dont want to make more of a mess of my body, then its already in. Any info would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Renae

I too have heard great things about Vitex. I have only been TTC for the past 2 months, and took Vitex tablets for the first 4 weeks from the start of my 1st period whilst TTC... my period is usually 4-5 days long. At the start of my 2nd cycle, my period was just 1.5 days! I instantly got a little scared/nervous and stopped taking it. If I don't get a positive test result this time, then I will check to see how long my period is this time around... if it goes back to 4-5 days long then I can be pretty sure the Vitex has something to do with it.

Firstly, I just want to say I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your baby boy last November. Hugs to you xx

I tried Vitex for approx two months before we conceived. My cycles were a bit wacky - my ovaries needed a lot of prompting (mainly through acupuncture, but also Vitex) to pop an egg. Both months I had minor bleeding approx 5-7 days after AF had stopped. The bleeding was only light and only lasted for 24-36 hours. I don't know if it was the Vitex though.

My naturopath/acupuncturist prescribed me Vitex, and as I was seeing her regularly I was comfortable with continuing to take it. So maybe if you're not sure, consult a naturopath for some advice about its pros and cons. Other than the slight bleeding, I had no other dramas with Vitex. One thing I do recall though is that I had to stop taking it after I had ovulated and recommence taking it when AF started.

    Good luck with things.

I took vitex for around 6 months and it was amazing for pms, it also helped regulate my cycles. Vitex works by balancing your progesterone levels so to get the full benefits from it you really need to be taking it during the tww. I would always start testing at 12dpo and if I had of been lucky enough to get a bfp I would have slowly weaned myself off it over a few days.
