    Question about CM

As I'm new to this and have only very recently started paying even the smallest amount of attention to CM, I am wondering how you can tell if it's CM or DH (if you know what I mean )? Especially if you BD every 2nd day. How long does DH's sperm stay in there for?

Gee there really isn't a tactful way of talking about this is there???

Yep - one of those questions that usually comes with a TMI warning.

The normal way to tell is the stretch test. Have a look on the fertility friend website, there should be some info there.

Generally, I now wait until EWCM before DTD so there is no confusion.

Semen is usually stringier and doesn't stretch as far. EWCM should stretch over an inch, over and over and over again, whereas semen breaks after a few stretches.

Not sure on how long it stays - up to 5 days?

    Okey dokey.....

EWCM will stretch further than semen, which will break before stretching too far.

EWCM will clump if you put it in water, semen will dissolve.

Semen has *that smell* about it, EWCM doesn't.

Otherwise, you can check your cervix position as well as CM to help. You're after a high, soft, open cervix for ovulation. I found the best time to check CM was of an evening before bed, that way it was the furthest time since the last BD session, so there was less chance of confusion.

    Talking

No worries Peekay. I was just being cheeky - as if we are not used to TMI in the TTC forum.

    Geez - I thought I was an experienced TTC'er.

A sniff test and an emersion test too - I never knew that!! Better put the white lab coat on for some serious scientific experiments next cycle.

This is so embarrassing- can you tell I'm new to this???

TMI- Gidget, don't say I didn't warn you! Today for the first time since I've been checking (about a month or so) I felt quite 'wet' so went to investigate There was a big blob of stretchy stuff- still unsure about whether it was CM or semen. I remembered the smell test and it didn't really smell. It stretched as long as I kept doing it (which wasn't too long- I was deperate to wash my hands and come and post the question ) It was clearish, but I would say more yellowish than white, although not bright or dark yellow.

Last BD was Saturday night. What do you think? CM or semen??

PS Even if it isn't fertile CM I"m so excited that something- anything- has happened/ changed!

By the sounds I'd say it's EWCM for sure The colour doesn't matter, just the stretch!

    GOOD LUCK

DH's "product" should work it's way out on the first day after you BD.

If you're BDing every 2nd evening then anything you see during the 2nd day should be your EWCM. Going by the description of that stretch then good luck tonight

    Thanks for the replies

I just found out that you can have EWCM without ovulating, and seeing as I have PCOS I'm guessing I fall in that category.

Oh well, I'm still going to BD just in case and just for the fun of it.
