off the pill and didn't use contraception

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hello....the first fact of this story is i'm 15, 16 on the 1st of june (i month).

i was on the pill for a while because of my acne and i developed a lump on the top of my breast with a lil red mark (1cm diameter) above the lump, the lump is underneath my breast not on top. anywayz, the doctor told me i should stop taking the pill as it would reduce the amount of breast tissue and other stuff because i need to have an ultrasound (tomorrow) (hard to understand her accent) and yer so i stopped taking it around....friday- saturday and was due to have my period monday....me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex on saturday, sunday and monday, we've had unprotected sex a couple of weeks before that and weeks before that (but i was on the pill as well). we are both terrified that i might be pregnant. is there a realy strong chance that i am? yesterday (wednesday) i started getting traces of blood in my discharge, some was pinky and one time it was a bit brownish. Also the night before i had had some cramps. someone please help....

Yes you could be pregnant. You better go get a test from the chemist or supermarket, get one with more than 1 in the packet.

    Hi Scared,

If it was only this past weekend that you and your boyfriend had unprotected sex, it is unfortunately too early to tell whether you may be pregnant or not. You generally need to wait until your period is due, or 2 weeks from the time you ovulated (when the egg was released). A simple pregnancy test from the chemist will confirm it for you at this time.
For you to have fallen pregnant, it would mean that you ovulated quite soon after coming off the pill. (The average female is only fertile for about 5 days out of every month - that is, the 3-4 days leading up to ovulation, and the 24 hours surrounding ovulation itself). Given your age, it is likely that your fertile period is slightly longer than this (ie 7 days). Some women encounter some blood or blood-tinged mucous around the time implantation occurs (when the fertilised egg implants into the wall of the womb). If the cramping continues without any sign of a period then it could be quite probable that you are pregnant - but I don't want to alarm you.

If it turns out that you are not pregnant, I strongly suggest you read into the signs of fertility (non-fertile and fertile mucous, and temperature), so that you are better able to monitor where you are in your own cycle, and this way you will have control over when it is safe or unsafe to engage in sexual activity. That way, if you are off the pill (which I strongly advise given the breast lump that you found) you can simply use an alternate form of contraception (ie- condoms) during your fertile period - or simply avoid intercourse on those days.
Taking the pill whilst pregnant can harm the baby so its best you avoid that until you are sure. You can use alternative contraception in the meantime.
I hope you are ok no matter what the result. Remember, there is plenty of support in here and no one will judge you. Let us know how you go.

    Thumbs up thank you

hello, thank you girls very much, i'm just a bit confused to when i can take a pregnancy test, u said something like 2 weeks after ovulation and around when i;m supose to get my periods, does that mean i have to wait another month? because i am supose to get my periods the monday we just had so i'm supose to have them right now, which is making me so confused because i only have lil traces of pinky type blood coming out sometimes.

Based on what you have said, you came off the pill on Friday the 24th. Then had unprotected sex on Saturday the 25th through to Monday the 27th. The earliest I would test would be on the 7th of May, and make sure if you buy a home pregnancy test get one that is sensitive, the brand 'first responce' is really good, you can buy this brand at Safeway, also make sure you test with your first morning urine, this has the highest level of HCG therefore most likely to pick up pregnany.
I know it seems like a long way away, but if you test to early you will get a negative result even if you are pregnant.

Best of luck with your test. If you have any more questions or need to chat please let us know, we are here to listen and help as best we can .

As far as the blood goes, it could be a couple of things. Your body could be taking some time to get back to normal as you have just come off of the pill. Or... it could be pregnancy related, if you are pregnant you can have implantation bleeding which occurs 6-10 days after you conception, this is usually just light spotting that goes away within a day or two.

Had you finished most of the pill packet for this month? If you had (and if you only had like 1 or 2 pills left), then theres probably not a huge chance that your pregnant. But if you only used, say, the first weeks worth of pills and then stopped taking it then there could be a chance that youre pregnant. Were you using the combined pill or the mini pill?

If you took all of the pills except the sugar ones like you said and you were due for your period on monday then I am pretty sure you wont be pregnant. It sounds like the spotting you are getting is just the beginnings of your period and it is just a little late which can happen especially since you didn't take your sugar pills. Still the pill on its own is not 100% so there is always a possibility so go and see your doctor who may do a blood test now and then again in two weeks to see if you really are pregnant.
