Smile Sperm Analysis / Sperm Quality ...

    Hi Everyone ...

We went for a sperm analysis this afternoon but we were turned away because we had only abstained for 3 days and not 4 days. (Mighty annoying considering everyone including our doctor had told us to abstain for 3 days).

As a by the by, does anyone know the reason why you abstain?

If the sperm quality is better after abstaining for a few days then why do we get told to DTD as often as we can - daily in fact?

I don't know about anyone else but does it seems to me as though there is so much contradicting advice.

I'm new to this TTC thing - its more complicated than I though.

    Katherine.

    Hubby went 4 days without.
But the lab we used had an information sheet...I'm pretty sure it said none for minimum 2 days, but no longer than 5 days.

    Thanks Gals!

Next time it'll be 4 days.

We have to wait until next month now as we're cutting it fine with the timing.

Good luck to you all !

    Hey Kat,
I used to perform semen analysis at my last lab job...our policy where I was working was only 3 days.

The reasoning is, is that it gives time for everything to build up - maximum volume, so to speak, so that a more accurate sperm count can be given to determine if there is anything wrong....

    its just for accuracy sake.

    I hope that helps
