Suspected Eptopic - I need some advice - Im so Scared!

Im really sorry if this is in the wrong section but I wanted your opinions as well

Hi girls, so I am 5 weeks and 2 days and last night I had slight bleeding (bit of mucus and light red). After I wiped it stopped. This morning there was no trace of any blood what so ever.
Later in the morning at work I went to to the toilet and wiped and had a fair bit of bright red blood, like last night I wiped it and it pretty much stopped 10 minutes later. There was no clots, just red blood. (enough to cover a tissue) Sorry for all the in depth explanations. But not enough that I thought I had M/C

So after this I booked an appointment with my doctor and got another blood test to check my HCG and Blood Type. (waiting on results) I also got a referral for U/S

I went for the U/S and they could not see anything in the uterus. They said that my left tube was swollen and had fluid (not sure if they meant blood)
They said that they expected early signs of an eptopic. Biut could not say 100% cause they were not even sure they could see a defiente sac/baby in the tube.

I have had cramping since I ovulated but have not had pain in any one side.

It is too early for them too see anything at 5 weeks? Could they be wrong. They honestly cant tell me if it is an eptopic or not..
The receptionist at my fertility doctors said that she believed that it may be too early to see anything at all yet.

Has anyone had this same situation? and have they been wrong??

I have another appointment with my specialist tomorrow. Im just worried that I may take there word for it and if I waited another week it may have been too early and everything is ok?

Im so worried and have been a total mess today.

    Any advice at all

Hi alanna...I am not an expert in this but my OB told me the other day that you can't see anything on u/s before 7 weeks...now I'm not sure if he was referring only to the heartbeat or anything at all....he said it was far too early....i hope everything is ok for you...as I said I am not an expert just passing on something I have heard

    Hi Alana
Big hugs - how scary for you.
I am not an expert either. I did have a scan at 7 weeks and they could see a little 'jelly bean' then, but the sonographer did mention that it is unusual to see anything before 8 weeks (i think).
Monitor yourelf closely though, as if it is ectopic you would want to act fast. I knowa few ppl who have had this and it become painful fast and required action. I am not trying to scare you, just want you to take care of yourself.
I really hope this isnt the case for you - lots of people have bleeds and go on to have healthy babies. am thinking of you.

    Hi Alana
Sorry your having such a stressful time. I had ectopic a year ago, but didnt have the US til i was over 7.5 weeks, my HCG levels did not rise properly which is what made them suspect it but really you need a whole series to look at not just one reading. As far as symotms went i didnt really have any i had no bleeding, i still had sore boobs, the only thing i noticed was i would get a cramping type pain in the ectopic side, which was really bad when i needed to go to the toilet (1's and 2's soory TMI)
In answer to your question though With my son i had a scan at 5w 2d and we could see a fetal pole and sac in the uterus so i would say there should be something visable in the uterus by now. I really hope you dont have an ectopic but if you do make sure you get all the info, i had my tube removed as it was very enlarged had a very big blood supply, the other option is an injection of i think "methoxarate" (soory know the spelling isnt right) which is what they generally do if they catch it early enough, i did read after though that it can seriously deplete folate levels for future TTC efforts so i would be asking about that. I was really p##sed off about having my tube removed but after i read up about methoxarte i was happy with the choice they made. I concieved 6 monthes later after a few more IUI's and finally IVF, so there is hope. Not that thats much consolation to you now.

I really wish you all the best sorry for the long post and prob way too much info but it is best if it is an ectopic to go in with all the info. Please PM me if i can help.
Sending you loads of positive cybervibes and that alls well. Good luck

    Hi alana,

I also had an ectopic a few months ago. If you're HCG is over 1500 they should be able to see something in the uterus. I also had a scan at 5 weeks and there was nothing. After serious pushing on my side, I got another US done and they were able to see the sac in my tube.I also had pain in my left side and lower back. My tube was also badly damaged and removed.

However, don't let time lapse if it is, as an eruption is much worse than early treatment.

I am that this is not the case for you.

I am also happy for you to PM me with any Q.

Big hugs chooky - this is frightening and confusing.

An embryonic heartbeat cannot usually be detected on u/s prior to 6weeks and 2 days. Often obs leave it to 7 weeks as by then if no heart beat is detected the outcome for the pregnancy is usually not good.

However, just to get this into perspective at 5 weeks your baby is a speck - even though she/he is very real to you she is tinsy. This makes it very very very difficult to pick up on u/s. It will also depend on the resolution of the equipment used. Many obs rooms have lovely old berthas that find it a challenge so early on.

It is worrying that your tube was swollen. However, if it was your ovary it could be that they are sighting the ovary that the follie ruptured from. This can be seen on u/s...

As hard as it is wait until tomorrow - ask for a very detailed u/s - you need this for your own peace of mind. If your baby is growing in your fallopian tube sadly it cannot survive as you know. But you need to have no doubts - no wonders,...

Sending you lots of love and support - I am thinking of you my love,,,

Alana, how did you go at the specialist today?

When I found out I was pregnant, I had an u/s the next day because I was high risk for ectopic due to blocked tubes from endometriosis. I was 5 weeks and the sonographer picked up the sac in my uterus but that's all they needed to see to confirm it wasn't in my tube. I then had to go back a couple of weeks later for another scan to check for heartbeat/viability. So, yes at 5 weeks they should be able to see the sac even though you won't be able to see the baby/heartbeat yet.

hope it has all gone well today

Hi girls, so I thought I would give you the update. I seem to still be bleeding. Weird thing is I bleed once a day. Once I wipe and clean it up it stops, but it happens once a day. Very confused about this?? the blood is never enough to be suspected as a M/C.
I went to see the specialist yesterday, I had a HCG test on the 22nd and it was 178, I had a blood test on the 27th and it was 715.
The specialist said that he wants to wait until Monday the 2nd so I can have another U/S and blood work as he is not convinced that the mass is the baby in the tube (eptopic). That it could be a cyst or a number of other things. He has said the likeness of it being eptopic or a complication is quite high but not to rule out that everything may be ok.
He also said that until your HCG levels are over 1500 it is not likely to see anything on the U/S, so hopefully by monday my levels continue to go up (this will be the indication that there is an issue or not)
Im still having pain and the bleeding so I am still very worried.
I also asked him if I am taking any risks by waiting until monday and he said that if the baby is in the tube there will be damage anyway. He also said that if I feel extreme pain to go straight to hospital.

Any insight on this? I would love to hear what you girls think?

That sounds pretty okay to me... I know the waiting is difficult. Is the pain constant? Is it severe? Is it worse when your bladder is full? The rise in hcg is a really good thing. Now I am afraid it is the waiting game... All my love and lots of hugs my love...

Yeah I know, the waiting i killing me. The pain is a constant slight ache. Im not sure if Im just more aware of it now because I know there may be an issue. It hurts when I have to go to the toilet (sorry!)
But the doctor said that could be because of a cyst. Dont really notice if it more painful with a full bladder. What do you think of my HCG levels so far? Are they really low?

    Here is a summary

13 DPO - inconclusive 17/10/08 (hadnt even missed my period yet)
    18 DPO - 178 22/10/08
    23 DPO - 715 27/10/08

They are lowish - but again it's a waiting game - I am sorry... some levels like that grow into chubby bubbies and some don't. YOu are in hideous limbo and all we can all do for you is sit here with you and wait,,,

Thanks so much, I have to wait until Monday before I will find out anything. Its killing me. I would just rather no and be able to deal with the outcome. I just pray that on Monday the U/S shows something in the Uterus and the mass on/in my tube is a cyst

    I can only pray!

Thanks girls for all your support
