Red face a TMI question about lube

DH use mineral oil when not TTC, but when TTC we use preseed. I'm just wondering if you need to use preseed the whole cycle, or just during the fertile phase?

Sometimes when I get AF in a non TTC cycle, I see a slight sheen in the blood (sorry, way TMI) just a little bit, I wonder if it is the oil coming out? This happens regardless of how long it's been since we DTD, so I guess some of it gets sucked up during orgasm? If it got sucked up after ovulation in a TTC cycle, would it cause problems?

Preseed works but it feels a bit gloopy, like wearning a rubber condom at times.

    Sorry for the wayyyyyyy TMI.

TBH I would avoid using mineral oil the whole time while you are TTC. Just for the whole reducing-exposure-to-possible-toxins side of things. I know they say it's safe, but that stuff is a petrol by-product, do you really want that near your DNA when it's at it's more vulnerable state?

What's wrong with non-oil lube? There's about a billion brands on the market. Astroglide springs to mind.

They are about as bad as spermacides when TTC, sperm find it hard to swim through it, and it changes the CM make-up too much. There have been heaps of articles published on lube when TTC, even saliva and water can kill sperm.

I would stick to preseed the whole cycle, for the reasons MD brought up about the mineral oil. Or maybe preseed for fertile times and working on increasing your own natural lube at other times?

We use Concieve Plus throughout, which is sperm-friendly, cheaper than Preseed and comes in a massive tube. When not TTC we were using Sylk, which is all natural and recommended to me by a chemist.

Thanks for the recommendation, I found some for sale online, looks good (BB needs to stock it!). Heaps cheaper than preseed .

Well I may as well ask another question since this thread is way TMI anyway... is there such thing as too much lube? I'd imagine there is a middle ground, too wet and the sperm would be slowed down??
