Too much iron in blood ?

Hi - a friend of mine has just had some pre TTC blood tests and they have come back showing she has too much iron. Apparently this has similar symptoms to not having enough.

She has been advised to cut back on red meat and ... I'm not sure what else.

Has anyone else heard of this? Apparently it is a gene thing that she may have inherited from her father ?? Can it be passed along again, or do both parents need to have it ?

PS: Not sure if I'm in the right area ??

Hemachormatosis is a genteic condition when someone has too much iron.

In a healthy young female they generally looses enough iron my having periods.

I have this and have seen a few different specialists who 1 told me to have large amounts of blood taking every 6 months, another who said not to bother.

When I was preg my OB monitered my bloods and they were actual pretty normal for the first time.

My parents and siblings were tested and mum and brothers are clear and dad is a carrier but doesnt have it.

My DS needs to be tested for it in a few weeks at RCH as precautionary as I have it.

    hope that helps
