    trying for number 2

    Hello all,
I'm new and wanting some advice. I'm wanting to conceive bubba #2 and we tried this month without success.
I have a daughter who we conceived on our 1st month of trying so i had just assumed it would be easy again this time.
I am aware of when I ovulate as I get cramping, and sure enough 14 days later I usually get my AF (and same case this month). Last month I ovulated at a time when both myself and my husband were sick but we gave it a try anyway. A week after OV i got pains and cramping just like I did when I conceived my daughter and so i assumed it was the egg implanting and thought everything was looking positive. I was so sure I was pregnant and was getting the same feelings I'd gotten the first time I conceived.

To put my thoughts at ease last week I did a test which came up negative. I thought I might have tested too early so waited till yesterday and tested again but again negative. This morning AF arrived.

I'm confused by the fact that I thought I had gotten implemantion cramps, my BB's were tender etc but still got a negative. Would the fact we were both sick during ovulation been the main reason or can anyone give me any other suggestions??

I'm so worried that I'm going to have problems conceiving this time round. I really wanted to conceive last month so that baby #2 would be due May. I wanted this baby to be due early next Winter so that it didn't overlap with my daughters birthday.

Very disappointed and looking for some suggestions or feedback.. What can I do to increase my chances for next month?

Sorry to hear you got your AF hun . That always sucks when you're TTC! My suggestion would be to keep trying especially by DTD at least every second day around the O time. Don't worry too much that it didn't happen on the first try second time around, as I'm sure it will happen soon. Besides, if you worry about it too much you'll have more stress and that's definitely what you don't need. Our bodies can play mean little tricks on us can't they?

    Hey mummaof1!!

Why don't you join the TTC 1-6 months forum?? We'd love to see you over there I'm TTC #2 also!

Sometimes symptoms of early pregnancy and AF can be exactly the same - the reason being that progesterone which is pumped out after the egg is released is responsible. If you get a sticky bean and it implants, its the HCG that slowly rises that causes the definite pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness, until then, you're kind of wondering is it or isn't it... That's what I find anyway...

I'm sure you will be UTD before you know it! GOOD LUCK

:-( I'm sorry you didn't have success this time around, however given you had no issues conceiving # 1, that is a really good indicator that all should go smoothly for ttc # 2. I just want to second what Blackrose said in relation to the symptoms. When you ovulate ('o'), your LH (lutenizing hormone) surges, thus why your BBies would have been sore and other possible symptoms. Then if the egg implants, your HCG rises and then these symptoms continue & others may kick in (like morning sickness). Definately consider using OPK's if you really want to narrow a good window for ovulation or have sex from CD 10 onwards every second day. There may be many reasons why you didn't fall pg this time around - there is such a small window (like between 24-36 hrs) to catch that egg (sperm meeting egg) Anyway, best of luck for next cycle.

    thanks for all the replies..

Do i still need to use an OPK if I get cramping when I OV?? I can tell my cycle to the date based on the OV cramps and how long my AF lasts. I know last month we only BD the actual day i got the OV cramps and no other days whereas with my DD1 we BD"d twice within a few days. My BB's were sore about 10 days after OV and I do not normally get sore BB's before AF arrives which is why I took it as a sign of being PG. I also got cramping 7 days after OV which is what I thought was the egg implanting.

When I read through my TWW diary from my daughter, the symptoms and signs were pretty well the same which is why i was so sure everything was working.

Is it possible for the egg to implant but then the PG still fail?? I assume it is but wondering why this could/might happen? Not saying it did but I'm just confused as I'm pretty intune with my body (sometimes too much) but this one completely threw me off guard.

I'm sorry it wasn't your month but try not to be too discouraged. I believe it is something like, for couples in their 20s, 20% chance each month of conceiving with regular sex (drops as you age) so it is very normal for it to take a few tries even for completely healthy couples. I hope next month is the one for you, good luck!
