TTC after being on Pill long term

    Hi there!!

DH and I are TTC. I was on the pill from around 1997 until August this year.

How long have people taken for their cycles to even out, so you can tell when you're ovulating?

    Cheerio!!

Hi peanutter, I went off the pill last year to TTC after being on it since 1995 without a break. I got pg in my second cycle. My first cycle was about 45 days or so, the second I think was about 30, thats the one I got pg on.

I would recommend taking your temperature every morning first thing and using Fertility Friend to chart your cycle, that way you can tell when you're ovulating. Check out the threads on BB about charting your cycle, it doesn't take long to get your head around how to do it.

It's tough coming off the pill because your body takes a bit of time to work things out for itself! Good luck TTC!

I'm going thru the same with 1st natural cycle after 10yrs on the pill. I am finding fertility friend useful too - not tracking temperature yet, but just noticing patterns and seeing the changes each day to helpful. Hopefully it will work Goodluck

I was on the pill for 12 years straight without any breaks. It took two months till my cycle started to show a sign of regularity and I had the added bonus of cramping whilst I ovulated and spot on 14 days later I got AF. I noted down my ovulation days (when i felt cramping) and then when AF arrived would note that so I could check back if I was being regular and I was spot on 14 days before AF I would ovulate and my cycle was around 26 days so i just worked out my estimated AF due date, counted back 14 days and figured that we'd BD the few days before and then as soon as I felt any cramping i'd be asking DH for a "night in" again. Not everyone will feel ovulation take place so I had a bonus in that aspect.

I conceived our first month of trying. We did BD 2 days prior to OV and 2 days post (simply as we had some things happening including visiting a friend in hospital who had given birth) but we still managed to catch the eggie. I'd say the 2 days prior one was the winner as we had a little girl...

If i hadn't fallen PG within 4-6 months I probably would have started temping etc but the fact I was getting OV cramps made things quite easy. Good luck with TTC and hope it happens quickly for you.

    Hi peanutter

I was also on the OCP for 10 years & I was expecting my cycle to takes ages to work itself out. But my first cycle was exactly 28 days & I think this cycle (my 2nd off the OCP) will be the same.
Like snowchickie, I can feel when I ovulate by having cramps for a few days beforehand. I am also using First Response ovulation predictor kit just for comparison sake & it's been spot on with what I suspect.
My GP told me that it really depends on how sensitive your ovaries were to the OCP, if you were very sensitive it will take longer to get into a regular cycle.
    Hope this helps!!

    9 years on pill

    hi
i have just (yesterday) come off the pill after 9 years on it. i have the same concerns as everyone else about how long it will take. its scary coming off it as i now don't know when anything is going to happen especially for the first couple of cycles. i started taking blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets today. hope that helps clear the cobwebs so to speak. good luck to all you others and will update when there is news.

    Hi Peanutter,

I came off the pill in June 08 after 15 years with no breaks ( I am also guilty of skipping my period while being on the pill and never taking the red ones for months at a time).

Once i came off the pill it took my body around 45 days to have a period (I didnt even have a withdrawal bleed) once i stopped taking it. Now 7 cycles into TTC my period arrives every month ranging from 30-34 days and I ovulate around day 19-20 (this i have just realised). I also receive acupunture once a week and take chinese herbs daily.

The best thing that helped me was to temp everyday, record it in Fertility Friend and listen to your body for ovualtion signs, and be aware of your cevical mucus.

    Goodluck on your TTC journey.

    Humph - back again!!

I think I am either ovulating, or starting my 2WW ... fingers crossed (again!) for a BFP!!

This is (I think) my 4th cycle post pill, but still not really regular. But DH and I are still BDing regularly (have taken advice, and dropped to every other day) and are praying for no more AF!! Well, not for at least 9 months

    Baby dust to other TTCers!!
