    AF after a curette......

I was in for a lap, tube flushing and had a curette done on the 10th July. I had the bleeding after which lasted about 4 days (alot lighter then a normal period). My actual periods were due on Friday and I have had AF cramps but no bleeding.

I have no idea what is going on. Did the bleeding after the curette act as my period? Did the curette restart my cycle? Or did the curette delay everything in my cycle, ie ovulation and periods?

I asked the Obs about TTC so soon after the curette (people have said there is a higher chance of miscarrying because the uterine wall is so thin) but he said no it's not a problem because he is not doing that sort of curette.... I have no idea what that means LOL.

If you have had a curette, did you have the same issues, or did your period arrive when it was meant to?

I have a follow up appointment with my obs on the 11th August, but hopefully something has happened by then.

    Thanks so much

    Hi Nadine,

I have had 2 curettes - one because some tissue from the placenta was retained after the birht of my DD and one after a missed miscarriage.

For both the first two periods or so afterward were kinda "weird" ie - they wrent spot on time, had cramps but no AF.

I have heard after a curette it can take up to 6 weeks for AF to return.

Sorry not much help but it all is a bit of a waiting game.

Thankyou so much for your response Kitt3n

Oh wow, 6 weeks! I guess I will have to just keep doing "it" and hopefully I will catch that eggy without getting my period back.

It was my understanding that after a curette, it is CD1. It worked out to be correct for me because I got AF 28 days after my curette.
I could be wrong, but as I said, it worked out that way for me.
    HTH.

    Hi Nadine,

I think Lisa is correct. I'm pretty sure that after you finish bleeding from the curette it's like your cycle has start from the start again. But at the same time I also agree with Kittens that your cycle can be a bit strange after a curette.

I had a D&C when I lost my angel and it took a number of weeks before I ovulated again, but I still had a large amount of hcg in my system that had to drop before I could ovulate again...

I had a curette with a lap to remove Endo, fert spec suggested to wait & not try during the 1st mth after. Tried after got AF & fell preggas (using AIH or IUI). From memory, the cycles don't change, you still ovulate around the same time you would have without the surgery.

31May2005 (?) = Surgery to remove Endometriosis. Hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, die studies,D&C(curette). Can't remember when last period was, that feels like ages ago, although they were irregular (23-31days apart).

    8Jul2005 = 1st AF afterwards = 5wks3days after surgery. I fell pregnant this month.
