two week wait, caught a cold, what medication is OK?

I'm in the middle of my two week wait for this month. I've just caught a cold. I need to be able to work and have an un-clogged brain, etc.

Is there any cold+flu medication that is OK to take given that I might possibly be pregnant? Is there any that is an absolute no-no?

My impression is that if you are pregnant you pretty much can't take any medicine at all, but of course the chances are that I'm not, so not sure what I'm going to do. Grr for colds!

I caught a cold during my tww the month I fell pg with this bub. I only took panadol at night time, I had honey & lemon drinks morning & night and ate bucket loads of garlic. Oh and got lots and lots of rest. Good luck and I hope your tww with a cold is as lucky as mine was.

It takes two weeks from conception for the 'baby' to tap into your blood supply (it has to implant, make the arteries etc). So any alcohol, drugs etc during this time don't go directly to bub.

I don't know whether any cold medications would affect the implantation process.

Thanks both, I'll see how I go.

I see lots of orange juice in my immediate future!

I directed this question to my GP who gave me the same answer Kate has. You're fine to take medication during the 2ww. You and 'baby' have separate blood supplies.

Thanks very much, Jaxi. That's a relief, because I had to teach for a couple of hours this morning and I feel rotten, so I took some "cold and flu" medicine, to relieve the symptoms enough that I could teach my classes.

Now I just have to throw off this cold so I can get my brain back....
