Well I've thought alot about when I would've concieved. Thought I had it all worked out...til I had the u/s yesterday.
Ok, I was thinking... LMP 18th December, conception around 1st Jan, implanation bleed around 7th Jan (not sure of that date, but I had af type bleed around then).
So if that works, I'd be 10 weeks this friday, give or take a couple of days.
My u/s said I was only 8 weeks yesterday. Which would mean conception happened around the time I had the bleed? But that doesn't make any sence to me. Sure I could've O'd a week later than I thought, but I had light bleeding for 2 or 3 days?
Going by what I thought my symptoms started around 6 weeks, as they usually do for me. My BT done Monday of last week had the doc thinking at least or around 8 weeks.
Could an u/s be out by a whole week & a half at this early stage?
Heart beat was just over 160 bpm, & we could still see the yolk sac. Don't know if any of that means anything.
I can't offer much in the way of advice, but i thought it was a general rule that the earlier the ultrasound, the more accurate the EDD was. We conceived DS2 "by accident" (no AF due to BFing DS1) and thought I was around 8wks when it was picked up, but the first ultrasound put me at 6 weeks with an EDD of 12/12/09. DS2 was born 11/12/09.
At this early stage the ultrasounds are really quite accurate, more so then further down the preg track. Generally they give a week leeway either side of the date the scan has given them, but I believe that is in later scans (ie 13 or 19 week scans). The fact that the yolk sac was still visible it is unlikely that you're 10 weeks, it's usually gone by then.
The bleed doesn't make much sence to me, but I'd say you can be confident the u/s is pretty well on the mark, but I'm no doctor!
Sounds like bub is nice and healthy, hope you're feeling well. Hope you get some solid answers soon!
AndiE - thats my problem. While I had AF back it was very irregular. Anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 weeks apart. Thats why I wasn't prepared.
Pish - I know. I think it could be, but nothing else adds up. I know that a week & a half is a big gap for this stage, so I'm guessing its right.
DD - I'm thinking about asking my gp for another one. Just to be sure. Depending on what he says about it all. He's been there from my pg with DD1, so we'll just see what happens
I thought I would share that the month I fell pregnant with Annabelle I had spotting around ovulation, this lasted 3 days so it is possible that it was an ovulation bleed you experienced.
They do say that the earlier you have the scan the more accurate it is so I would proberly go with the dates that they have given you at this stage. Do you have another US planned? I would think that having one at 12 weeks would confirm more accurately how far along you are.
I used to get break through bleeding about the time of ovulation, it wasn't much but it did happen. It might have been that... But with the heartbeat so strong, it sounds like bubba is doing well in there
Skye, from the time I found out I was pg with DS2 I ended up having three ultrasounds (the second due to a small amount of bleeding) - the first at about 6 weeks, the second at 8 weeks and the third at 12 weeks. The first and third scans had my due date at 12/12/09 and second scan had him arriving on 11/12/09.
This doesn't exactly address your query, but I guess I'm saying that in my case, the u/s were correct. Maybe you should get another scan for your piece of mind.
Light bleeding around the time of ovulation is quite common so that bleed you had was more than likely that. Great news that bubba had a nice strong heart beat, CONGRATULATIONS!!
yeah the earlier the scan the more accurate it is, my early scan at 6 weeks showed the sate i thought then as my scans went on they would differ a few days to one scan differed a week as bubs grows at diiferent rates as they get older
Yeah. None of mine have added up with any of my other kids. I even had a 10 week one with DD1 that said I was 4 or 5 days further than I thought. My kids are just big babies
