    Post Ventolin when TTC

Just wondering if anyone knows if its ok to take Ventolin when TTC. I looked on the net but have been unable to find any info. I haven't had any in quite a while but could really use some at the moment. I'm concerned it may dry up cm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx

    Hi Principessa,
I've had really bad asthma this week too and actually spoke to the chemist. I don't know if it would dry up the cm or not, but she said that if you are already pregnant, ventolin is fine to take. As the ventolin is really going into your lungs, I can't imagine it would affect the CM.
    What does everyone else think?

    Thanks Spuddle,

From the chemist advice it sounds like its safe to use. The cm question is still there though. Its true that it goes into your lungs but it does get absorbed into the bloodstream via the lungs and so often has systemic effects (eg. you know when you get the shakes or increased heart rate from it). Ventolin does decrease mucous production in the lungs....

    Thanks again

I'm really pleased you said that about the shakes and the heart rate thing, because it's been a while since I've had asthma, and I've been shaking like leaf in a storm and I have actually been able to feel my heart beating through my chest! It must increase the flow of adrenalin or something. Are you taking ventolin on an ongoing basis? Perhaps do a little experiment this month and let us know how you go!!!

Ventolin gives me the shakes too. I don't suffer with asthma on a regular basis but this cold weather and wind has set off my asthma this last week. I'm pretty wheezy today and really should have a puff. I'm not too keen on experimenting though - I don't have an abundance of cm anyway and I really don't want to lose what I've got. I'll see how I feel later on today and I might have a puff or two. At least I know its safe....

I'm an asthma sufferer and from what I was told from my GP it's safe to use. If you're worried about your asthma, it's best to be on a preventer which is safe to use while TTC & pregnancy (not all are), that way your minimising your ventolin use. HTH.

Thanx Jodi. I was on preventive meds many years ago but my asthma flare ups are very few and far between (last ventolin use over 8 months ago). I'm not planning on using ventolin regularly but I won't be afraid to now if I need to.

Hi, i dont have asthma but was talking to my sister who does quite bad and she has 2 ds's. She actually participated in a study with the hunter medical research institution when she was pg with her youngest re: asthma and pregnancy and they said it was perfectly fine. They were actually doing a study on birth weigh of babies of mothers with asthma.

Ventolin does not dry up mucus - it dilates your airways so you can breathe. You need to be able to breathe...

Thanks for the reassurance Tracey and kitten2b. I won't hesitate if I feel I need my puffers (it isn't very often anyway).
