What tests can your GP order?? when TTC

I am wondering for those who have had experience what tests can I ask my GP to run to get th ball rolling if I don't get a BFP. I know they will tell you to wait to 12mths until they refer you to a FS, but I thought surely there are some test they can do to get things started.

The list so far...(it is a short one hence the post)
    Anto-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)
Day 21 test (test to see if you have O, not sure of the correct name)

I would appreciate any stories of what tests you had done by the GP or found out later that the GP could have done them.

A GP won't normally do any testing until you've been TTC for a year.

Generally any testing will be done on the male partner first as it is far less intrusive. If there are no issues there, the next thing will be the CD21 ovulation ultrasound & BT. It will then go on from there to the more complicated tests & they get more intrusive as well, including laparoscopies, HSG's etc.

I know the GP won't refer until 12 mths without some sort of 'other' existing issue.

But surely there are some tests that can be done and gotten out of the way, maybe not straight away but after some months.

I fell straight away with DD but not having much luck this time around.

Does anyone have any experience with a great GP? I feel like if I ask and insist then I will be ok, I just need to know what to ask for.

FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels were 2 blood tests my gp ran for me, together with the day 21 progesterone and he also got me to have an ultrasound around when i might ovulate (this was with my DD) and when i went to the ultrasound place (was a tuesday) she said i would ov in the next two-three days and according to FF for my cycle that month i o'd on the friday and it resulted in my preg with DD

ETA: i should mention my GP is a (youngish) retired Ob/gyn and women's health specialist so he's pretty on the ball, not just a run of mill gp

Same as above, my GP gave me the day 21 progesterone test to check that I had ovulated... he also referred me to get the follicular study ultrasounds to check that my eggies were growing & getting ready to release.. like above once again... they were able to tell me that I would ovulate in the next 2-3 days.
And again, like above, my GP was a ob/gyn for 15yrs previous to to just being a GP.

You could maybe ask your GP about the ultrasounds? Good luck!

Haha, MY doc is a retired ob-gyn, female and youngish and I'm in Vic

As for the question, i've had a pelvic ultrasound ordered by my gp to check for pcos and cysts, and today I'm going in to ask to be put on the waiting list for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. We have been ttc for 14 months and diagnosed with unexplained (so far lol) secondary infertility. In those 14 months I have had 3 m/c. I'm using my phone so I can't see your ticker, how long have you been ttc for?

Re: What tests can your GP order?? when TTC

As I said in my original post, even a GP will generally not start doing any testing before 12 months TTC. 90% of couples will have conceived by 12 months of actively TTC therefore GPs most of the time will tell you it's not necessary to begin any testing until that time. Usually the only exception is if you or DH have a condition you already know about (PCOS, endo etc) or if you have other gynaecologicsl concerns.

Like Sarah said, 12 months before they will usually do any testing. We had the CD21 Blood test and Ultrasound then DH had a sperm test, even though we already had a child together. Our 1st visit was around 2 years TTC, then got serious and followed it up again a couple of years later. If you haven't been TTC for 12 months, and do start the pre testing phase, I would think they would make you do it all again once you got to the 12 month mark so they had 'current' results IYKWIM?
