where to go from here

As most of you know Alan and I are on a TTC break.
Anyways... after this cycle if nothing has happened which I am highly doubtful anything has...

Where do we go from here?

I know I have to make an appointment to see a DR but what do I say to them? What sort of questions do I ask? And so forth!!

Fingers crossed you wont need to go to Doctor but if you do I don't think you should have too much trouble trying to get help seeing as it's almost 12 months ttc.
The first DR I went to was hopeless and I was asking all the questions but the second one I had told me what we needed to start doing.eg. blood tests, sperm testing. So I am hoping you will get a decent one.
I think you have to be upfront and honest and just tell DR that you want a referral to a specialist (I'm not sure if you have had any type of checking yet, otherwise you need to start smaller and work your way to the specialist).
You also need to tell them that you have been charting and know when you are ovulating otherwise they think you could have just missed you fertile times (first hopeless DR).
I told mine we were DTD every two days and she was satisfied that we had been doing everything possible to conceive and that we could look into things further.
We didn't get a refferal for specialist yet, we need to look into the simplier things first.

I really hope you don't have to make that Dr's appt and you get a BFP this month.
One thing you should ask is to have tests done to see why you have had 3 m/c. I was told once you have had 3 they will test why and see what is going on.

Not sure what other questions you should ask.
Hope you get a nice Dr that you are really able to talk too. Can you see a female Dr ? I know some male Dr's are nice but i always feel better talking to a female and they seem to understand a little more.

tam: i agree your next step is to see a doctor. First thing i would go to your pg and get a referral for an ob/gyn or get a referral to the royal womens hospital.

the RWH has been great for us for the past 12 months and has not cost us a cent! it is only now that we have to pay since being referred to melbourne ivf.

Basically you need to tell them you have been ttc for 12 months, 3 m/c, and you would like to know if they can help you to conceive and get some routine tests done.

Please feel free to ask us for advice at any time--- its a horrible process but we are all in the same boat

Once we had been trying for over 18 months (and charting for 12) I took along all my charts to my GP (to show him I wasn't totally ignorant!) and "asked his advice" knowing that I'd probably be looking at some blood tests to ensure I was ovulating and a semen analysis for DH. These are the first two tests most GP's do: to find out if you are ovulating, and also to check the quantity/quality/motility of the males sperm.

From there we established that I was ovulating and that DH's sperm was all great (but a bit light on the seminal fluid, which can be a problem when trying to concieve) so we knew we had to fix DH's fluid problem (cut out the grog and the coffee and the fags).

From there, my GP suggested trying for another couple of months, and from there he would refer us to a specialist.

My advice would be to go along to your GP, armed with your own facts and figures regarding how long you have been trying, the details of your MC's etc, and tell him you want the initial tests, and then take it from there.

You are then the one in control, and this alone will most likely make you feel better?

I totally agree with Lucy in taking your charts to your GP, they can use them as a rough guide as to what your body is doing & how your timing has been. My GP was amazed that I was charting saying not many people do it these days, he was even more impressed that there are sites like FF around to help us

Think about what you'd like to get out of the appointment... I think though given your history they will be looking more into why you have been having miscarriages, because you can quite clearly get pregnant it's just staying that way that's the problem right?

I'm just hoping like the others that you have a very sticky little bub in there already after your fantastic anniversary weekend

LOL, mine too: he is late 40's in age and was v.impressed, and I felt like he took me a lot more seriously as a result.......

My current OB who is also a repro. specialist says he wishes more women would chart/be familiar with their natural cycle......he is young and says he finds it easier to talk with women if they are already in a position of confidence with regard to their bods.....

My Dr is old LOL! I have no idea how old, but let's just say he was old enough to help deliver my sister nearly 30 years ago! I definately agree that they take you more seriously when you know what you're talking about rather than just walking in & saying "we've been having sex but I'm not pregnant" sort of thing.
