    Where to from here?

This was our 9th month of trying :-(
    AF is on her way.

I'm pretty certain I am ovulating- +OPK's, OV pains etc....
I gave up temping... It was doing my head in.
DH takes menevit and I take a prenatal vitamin from my naturopath.
My DH smokes, and after the immense stress of mum's breast cancer- I am ashamed to admit I have started to smoke again also

    What should we do now?
Do we head to a GP?
    What tests should we expect?

Hi Emma - sorry TTC 2 is taking longer than anticipated (and to hear about your mum's news - big hug).

Like you, I was also ovulating and we were both taking vitamins etc. Temping is a pain in the butt, I agree and just seems to add to the stress!

If you want you could go to a GP and ask for some basic tests. This is what we did at the six/seven-month mark. I had a CD 21 blood test to check progesterone was rising and also had a pelvic and internal ultrasound to look at lining, ovaries etc. DH had a sperm analysis. Some can be claimed back from Medicare.

Most things were ok or borderline (DH's boys, for example) so our GP suggested some dietary changes and that we keep trying for a few more months. We saw a FS after 12 months.

Hope you get some answers and a BFP quicksmart

Im on my phone so can not see your age but from personal experience a Dr wont do anything until atleast 12 months. Then in our case DH had a semen test and when that came back normal we were told to wait a further 6 to 12 months. After 24 months trying I had a laporoscopy which showed that everything was normal.

Good luck with it all. It took us 3 long years to get our DS so I know how you are feeling.

I would also maybe try to quit smoking snd see if you can get DH to do the same.

Sorry should also say that at the same time DH had his tests I had a heap of bloods done to check my hormone levels and to see that I was ovulating.

I was temping and doing getting positive OPK's and my day 21 progesterone said I was ovulating, however when I went to a proper OB/GYN, she concluded that although I was releasing eggs they weren't 'good quality'. 2 months of clomid and here I am..

Buffy explained well the tests that would be done.. Sorry about your Mum and the stress your under.. Hope everything gets sorted soon.

    Thanks girls.

    Frantelle- I'm 27 in 1 week.
    DH is 31.

BAL- how did she determine that your eggs weren't good quality?

Emma - forgot to mention - even if they're reluctant to do tests yet you can still push for them. Try not to worry that something is wrong (easier said than done I know!), but you also shouldn't feel that you have to wait "the right amount of time" if you want to rule out the basic stuff. As you said, you just have to find the right GP. Even after we saw a FS I reckon it was just my luteal phase that was the issue and like BAL Clomid seems to have helped!

Frantelle - my partner and I are in our early 30s and didn't have to wait until 12 months for blood tests and sperm analysis; it did cost us though. We also got a referral to a FS before 12 months. We were lucky to have a decent GP who was willing to help out. PS big congrats on your bub

I had bloods done on day 2 and 21.. I know they were progesterone and estrogen not sure if anything else was tested.. I think although the levels showed I ovulated I don't think they were high enough.. She didn't actually say why. Maybe it was her opinion and she was script happy?? Either way, it worked.. Also with your age if they fob you off, go to someone else until they take you seriously.. That's my advice anyway (I'd lie about how long you've been trying if you fall pregnant without help great, but you don't want to be fobbed off for the next 2yrs)

    Hi Emma

Naturopathy or Chinese Medicine can also be beneficial if you are into either of them.

    take care

    Thanks lovely ladies....
My bestie is a naturopath, has just returned from an o/seas holiday.
She's going to ring me once her jetlag subsides and step up the game a little, so to speak.
I think I'll head off to the GP this week to try and get some information.

Emma have you thought about acupuncture? I can recommend someone in Fitzroy? She's excellent...

(I'd lie about how long you've been trying if you fall pregnant without help great, but you don't want to be fobbed off for the next 2yrs)
    That's what I did

I told my GP we'd been trying for over 12 months because she was just trying to fob me off. We'd been trying is 8 or so months, so it wasn't far off.

I agree with Buffy, push with everything you've got for the FS referral / further tests. It's your body and you're the one paying for it. You should dictate when it all happens, not some Dr who knows nothing about you.

Sorry to hear about your Mum.

I've got everything crossed it happens soon hun

OP- I hadn't thought about acupuncture.... Is it worth it, do you think?

    Thanks Elocin.

We've both upped our game in regards to supplements- they will arrive tomorrow, so I'll post the names of what we are taking.
Think we'll give these a shot and maybe head to the GP next month.

Thanks loveys for all your ideas and advice :-)

If you see a naturopath they sometimes want blood work done too. So even if you go down the natural therapies Rd still go to the Dr.. I was going to Sharkeys and spent a fortune and it never worked for me, but some things work for some, not others. I would maybe look at all options instead of focusing on 1 option

Just wanted to say good luck Emma. I know you've probably heard this before but you've had one baby so you CAN fall PG and you CAN carry a baby to term so YAY!

I'm TTC #2 as well but only 2 months in, I keep telling myself, I did it once, surely I can happen again.

Hope you aren't waiting too much longer honey
