    Withdrawal Bleed???

    Hi Lovely Ladies...

I've been off the pill since my last period started (14th July) and I'm just wondering when you're supposed to get a withdrawal bleed? I haven't had one as yet and I'm worried that's a sign my period isn't going to return straight away...

    Worried...

Lots of white light to you all...

I don't think I ever had a withdrawal bleed. My AF just went on as normal.

    Hi BeccaLee

The withdrawal bleed is the bleeding or 'period' you have when you are on the pill and stop once a month. When you stopped taking the pill you should have got your period a few days later, this was not a period as such but a withdrawal bleed, it isnt a true period because there is no ovulation when on the pill. For some reason I thought the withdrawal bleed came after the period you got when you stopped the pill. Not so. Ooops.

Hope this helps. I went off the pill 8 1/2 weeks ago to TTC and no period as yet. Still waiting, I hope your cycle comes back straight away, fingers crossed for you!

    HI Becky27...

Thanks so much for your reply!

That makes perfect sense...So I stopped taking the pill a few days before the 14th July, that's when AF (or withdrawal bleed) arrived.

So this may seem like a silly question but did you have a withdrawal bleed after you stopped the pill? Or no period after your withdrawal bleed...From what you've written it seems like the withdrawal bleed hasn't come?

I thought the exact same thing...I was expecting the withdrawal bleed after the 1st period after I stopped the pill.

So many things I didn't know about the pill, the doc's should really tell us when they prescribe them!!

I really hope your P arrives soon...Sending lots of white light to you

    hey beccalee

i stopped the pill on 18/7! as i understand it, the 'period' you have that would have been your period on the pill had you continued with it is the withdrawal bleed. so - i stopped taking the pill on 18 july & if i'd continued on i would have had my period sometime in the following 7 days before the next pill packet. instead, because i stopped taking any of the pills altogether, this became the withdrawal bleed. am i making any sense here? lol.

so basically, that period & the withdrawal bleed are one in the same (i think!).

that means we now sit around waiting for the first real period, which should turn up around the 21st of this month for me (and a few days earlier for you), depending on whether my cycle has returned to normal. this is the time when it can take some time for your real period to return. hth!

Thats ok, no probs.. I was pretty confused myself. I didnt even think about the pill stopping ovulation. I stopped the pill on 4 June, got withdrawal bleed a few days later but I have not returned to my natural cycle yet. So not sure if I have ovulated or not. I am very impatient about the whole thing because we want a baby ASAP! so I went to my GP who agreed to do some blood tests to check my hormone levels. I find out on Friday. I think everything will be ok, I went off the pill several years ago just for a break and my period didnt return for about 4-5 months but then it was back to normal and regular. It wasnt until I started researching that I found out that many women go through the same thing. Im also considering going to a naturopath because there are apparently herbal remedies that can help kick start things again!

Well that was a bit long winded..Hope all goes well.

    Thanks girls!!

It all makes sense...So I stopped the pill on the 11th July and got my bleed on the 14th July for about 5 days. Here's hoping AF returns when it's supposed to on the 11th August (or there abouts)!

I've been on the pill for 10yrs now and have been off it a couple of times within those 10 years. But do you think for the life of me I can remember what happened those last times??? Nope

Sloane - Let me know if AF arrives when it's supposed to!!

Becky27 - I just read your thread and I really am hoping for you that your cycle gets back to normal asap. By the sounds of it I'm sure it will, at least you know that from the last time you stopped the pill. I'm impatient just like you! We want a bub asap and the unknown is always a scary thing! The naturopath sounds like a great idea...Fingers crossed your tests come back all good!

At least we know we can come here and ask all the questions we need and be support for each other

    Good luck

I was off the pill for a cycle last year as I just forgot to start taking it after my period finished (I used to not take the "sugar" pills) and my cycle was about 6 long bloated weeks. I was so dreading it would happen again when I went off the BCP this year!

In July this year we decided to start TTC, so I stopped taking the pill the day AF arrived on 24th June and I had a 27 day cycle before AF arrived again. This month I have been tracking my cycle via temps and CM and OPK's and got a positive OPK yesterday which means I am ovulating today so looks like it's pretty much on track for about a 28/29 day cycle this month. I have found the charting is a great way to help me get back in tune with my body after about 8 years on the BCP. There is a section here on Charting which is really helpful.

I have read that taking pregnancy / conception supplements can make a big difference in regulating your cycle once off the BCP so I started taking the Blackmores Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Gold supp at the start of July and it definitely seems to be helping my cycles! It was loads cheaper than the Conceive Well supp and seems to have pretty much the same vitamins in it.

    Hope that helps you guys!
