Tell me about your "Mixer"

After years of getting by on just a handheld mixer I have now convinced DH that I really really really need a proper mixer. My heart lies with a Kitchen Aid but the cost does put me off slightly, its doable but if there was another option to consider?

So tell me about what type of "mixer/mixmaster" you have and why you love it or hate it? My mum's old sunbeam lasted her around 25 years and I have lots of fond memories of baking with that.

I've been thinking about a proper one too, seeing as I've only got a little hand mixer. Keep thinking that'd mean I have to bake more and all those tasty baked goods go straight to my butt though

I got one from Breville a few years ago. I still plan on getting a KA but not until we have finished moving around.

I don't have a single complaint about it, I use it at least once a week if not a few times a week, I've made italian meringue which takes 10mins of beating on high, pizza dough, cupcakes and cakes, and so on with no issues at all.

I broke my whisk attachment a few months ago because I dropped a spoon into the bowl while it was still on but the machine its self is fine and a replacement was easy enough to track down.

I have the same mixer as TMS and love it, much as I want a kitchen aid mine works great and is used a lot too.

I have had all types of mixers but the best by far has been my Kitchenaid. DH even suggested that we could buy a 2nd one because it's so awesome!

Our brand new Thermomix arrives tomorrow . Otherwise, we have a Kenwood but we'll see how we go with the TMX. We're planning on selling all our other blender/mixer type appliances on ebay

A friend of mine recently got a thermomix - I am so in awe of it! I just wish I'd heard of them back in May 2010 when I got my kitchen redone, I would've tried to work one into the budget!!!

i have a KA - so cant comment on the others - i do love the KA - i have the matching food processer too.

I have a Breville too! I love it. White it may not be as good as a kitchen aid, I can't see how a kitchen aid is worth double? You can still buy extra accessories for the Breville, I think it's fine!

Kimmi that is what I am starting to think...is a KA really worth double the rest of the others?

So those with KA, why are they better then others you have had??

KA gives you more power for less wattage due to a different drive system. It's all metal - no plastic in sight. A comparable mixer is the Kenwood Chef or the Breville Scraper Mixer pro, but they're both over the $550 mark.
I have the pasta attachments, the grater attachment and the ice cream bowl - all of which are used regularly so for me, yes it's worth it. As far as I know only the Kenwood offers as many attachments.

I have a Breville as well but it's nothing on my KA. The stuff that comes out of it just tastes better - ask my husband lol.
