Belfie - are you pulverizing the oats?
If you look at the Thermomix Essentials FB page, there were a couple of porridge recipes today.
Belfie: I made really nice plain porridge the other morning - didn't pulverize the oats. I want to experiment slightly and try an apple cinnamon porridge. Mmm.
We made so much stuff in the thermo over the weekend! Sunday I made the basil pesto dip (omg, yum!) and the hommus to take for morning tea at my parents. The basil pesto dip was amazing, the hommus was too garlicy so I think I'll cut back to one clove next time. Had parents over for tea and made potato and leek soup with linseed bread rolls (had linseed meal in cupboard from making lactation cookies, lol). They were both really nice too. Had custard for dessert - a choice of lemon or chocolate.
I'm finding myself actually wanting to cook (poor DH has barely had a go), which is a huge change. I was usually the one trying to avoid cooking!
There is a mistake in the every day book, says to pulverise the oats on the normal porridge when you don't need to. Found that out the hard way! LOL
Also other mistakes from the weekend:
Pea and Ham soup - it tells you to pulverise peas and then put aside. Note to everyone - remember to put them back IN the bloody thing. I didn't remember until the end so it will be interesting what happens to the taste of it!!! LOL
Pikelets - Must remember to put in egg. This is what happens when your brain isn't switched on...
Vegetables - I steamed our vegies last night for dinner, and they were sooo yummy!! I'd never had steamed potatoes in my life, but I swear these were the best spuds ever (plain ones anyway, not including mashed or roasted)
Chicken - I steamed our chicken for our wraps at lunch and it was sooo moist!! lovely :D
So my failures have been because I'm not reading the recipe properly (brain dead really and not thinking) and there have been some successful meals.
Going to try and prepare my vegie burgers for tonights meal in it, so will be interesting on how they turn out. I figure even if I use it to chop things up, at least I'm using it.. LOL
i did the ginger beer recipe over the weekend for DH and FIL. i ended up having to make up a plain soda stream to add more mineral water to it as it was very strong. the recipe also said to use 2 lemons but next time might just try one. definately needed watering down! :D
yesterday i made porriage, custard, chorizo and capsicum risotto and a latte.
today im making ice cream, hommus and swedish meatballs
im in love :heartbeat:
You made them all seperately right Olive? Cos I'm not sure about a porriage, custard, chorizo and capsicum risotto - with a latte on the side!
Nah Jo, I am pretty sure I saw one of the Masterchef contestants whip that up the other night ;) :p
 lenny!
oh olive the ice cream is to die for! i would have to say its THE best ice cream i have ever tasted!!
we are making pizza pockets today for lunch. we made a 5 seed loaf of bread the other day and it was so nice. normally home made bread sits really heavily in my stomach but this one was so light i didnt even notice it! only issue was DS keeps pooing out all the poppy seeds undigested!
So, all you lovers out there.....
Do I want one????????
How much am I looking at to get one?
I havent had a chance to cook much lately but last night DH got pizza which I cant have so I made myself sweet potato and quinoa soup from the GF cookbook. I was a bit suss about it at first so gave it another 15minutes to cook and it was so yummy. It's nice to be able to whip together something healthy so quickly. I did use less water than in the recipes (about 2/3). It didnt need a whole onion either IMO but that's a taste thing. I added cream when I served it.
I have a celeriac in the fridge. I've never used one before. I'm thinking of making soup or something. Anyone have any suggestions?
Olive, was the ice cream easy to make? Do you need an ice cream maker?
I think because I've always found cooking a chore, I havent been trying as many things. I made pikelets the other day and I couldnt believe how fast it was. Mind you I was starving so ate most of them as I cooked them. They were lovely and fluffy.
tashybabe, there is a recipe in the EDC book for ice cream to do in the thermomix. so easy and done in around 2 mins i think
no ice cream maker tash, just cook the mixture then into the freezer then remmix after 3-4 hours
There's a great deal on for July which includes 9 month interest free finance so you have 2 days left for that. If you have your demo before the end of August you get 2 thermoservers for free. They are great in themselves and you can only get them by hosting a demo I think. If you're in Melbourne, I can PM you the name of a consultant. Otherwise call the TMX head office to organise.
Have a look on their website. There's video that shows how many things you can use it for. Also there's loads of examples uploaded on youtube.
ETA-you dont just want one, you NEED one :)
makes around 1L.
