I need to convince DP that we should dip into our IVF fund to purchase.
Our problem is that we both work long hours. He gets home at 6pm (starts at 7am) and I leave at 8.45am and get home at 7pm. Dinners are sometimes a nightmare as DD needs to be ready for bed at 8.30pm. I try to cook ahead on weekends but it is sometimes a bit haphazard.
I bought a cuisineart ice cream maker in December. Please don't tell me my hopefully-soon-to-be-purchased thermomix will make it redundant!!!
N2l - that's a tough call. We used part of DH's redundancy payout. Mum used the finance deal. I think it's about $50 a week. She's already got the machine and is cooking up a storm. We got one because I am now beyond paranoid about what I eat so want to 1) eat more healthy food and 2) reduce our intake of additives and preservatives. The TMX helps us do that with the added bonus of being quick and being easier to clean up with.
As for appliances, we sold a bunch on ebay. Didnt get much for them, but it cleared up cupboard space. I now smugly walk through homewares stores looking at appliances thinking to myself, Dont need that. Oooh how much for a *insert appliance type*, lucky we dont need that now. :) yes, I am a smug TMX owner. Just picture me as a 50s housewife in the kitchen in heels and pearls beaming out of a magazine. Or you can picture me in my jarmies wondering blearily into the kitchen and making something healthy when I feel like eating junk.
I'd say it's ideal for when you come home tired from work and cbf cooking and you forgot to get something out if the freezer ( which i must remember to do). 20min later you can have a meal. Our current favorite emergency meals are penne amatriciana or a risotto using whatever is at hand.
OMG chocolate custard is the same as chocolate yogo :happydance:

We have had our thermomix for 10 days now and we are using it constantly. I make porridge most mornings DH made bagels for lunch over the weekend. We have made orange sorbet (yum!), lots of different dips, choc chip cookies... It does really good boiled eggs too. We cook tea in it every night - tried the meatloaf over the weekend and that was divine!
*sigh* I'm in love.

And I just shipped off a heap of my appliances with my mum (back to siblings interstate) - decided i really wouldn't get that much on ebay for my crappy lot, so might as well pass them on. Now I have room in my cupboards!!
Tashy - I love that image of you as a 50's housewife looking smug tehehehe! I'd join you in that, but I think my trackies & ugg boots aren't quite up to par.
Just subscribing. I'm going to buy one when I loose another 10kilos. Thats my present to myself.
Belfie: We're having mushroom risotto tonight too! We got a huge bag of mushrooms so need to use them up. I might try the mushroom soup at some stage too.
Mildez: That is an AWESOME idea! What a great present to yourself (and you may find it helps keep you healthy - I've been eating heaps better since we got it).

I can't believe how much you guys are cooking up a storm! I dont think I use it half as much as I could - still getting used to it. I think I've only used the Varoma once. It will be penne amatriciana for tea tonight. It's so easy.
I made the chocolate custard too and oh, yummy! DH doesnt like thick custard so it was all for me and, umm, it's a bit moreish, so it didnt last :)
Yesterday I made chicken soup in the TMX. I wizzed a few vegies together, then through in some stock and water and cooked the chicken pieces in the basket with a bay leaf for 40mins. Then added the chicken to the vegie broth for another 15 minutes. Very nice. DH was feeling poorly so I kept it very bland. I also made celeriac soup in the slow cooker at the same time, then wizzed it in the TMX at the end. So we're not lacking for soup atm.
I also made normal ice cream the other day. As the only stainless steel bowl we own is the Thermoserver, it did take overnight for the first freeze, then blitzed in the TMX and back in the freezer - how creamy is it? I made coconut ice cream last night. I couldnt find a recipe so kind of made it up myself with what I had. 1 x can coconut cream, then filled up can with milk and threw that in. Realised I should have used normal cream instead, so added that (280ml) as well and a heap of sugar. Cooked as per normal instructions, added dessicated coconut at the end and left overnight. It wasn't 100% frozen this morning, which made it easy to blitz again. It should be nicely done for dessert tonight. It was tasting yummy when I blitzed it this morning :)
Sterla - how did you make bagels? I lurv bagels but never tried making thm.
Tash: DH made them, he just found a recipe online (StephBerg I think). Mixed the dough in the thermomix, let it rise, separated the dough out, let it rise again... then you actually boil some water and cook each one for 30 seconds each side, then you bake them. They were really good!!!!
Tashy thats what I am afraid of it I get one now. And then I'll have 20kilos to shift not 10. I've lost 9.1 now so almost half way there. I guess its a pretty expensive present but too bad. I'm going to get it. My mouth is watering reading all the yummy stuff everyone is making. I love cooking as it is and eating even more!

I've just had to set a new August rule for myself. No more hot chocolates or chocolate custards until I'm at goal weight. I think I'll never get there otherwise! They are a naughty temptation, too good & too easy to make!
So saying I've frozen some soymilk to try the easy blueberry icecream (soy cos of DH, and at least it's not chocolate right? ;)). We have our custard using soymilk too, and my mum who loves all things dairy reckoned she couldn't even tell. And the mushroom risotto tonight was DELISH! And I made the lemonade, heavenly. Can't wait to have it in summer, would be soooo refreshing.
Quick qu: does lamb mince taste much different to beef mince? I'm not allowed to eat beef on instructions from my acupuncturist but I want to make lasagne. Mum made one last week in the TMX and it was really good. She also made pumpkin soup and zabaglione that meal, all in the TMX. Very simple & very yummy.
Mildez - about weight loss. One thing we're finding is we're eating more healthy food. As long as I can resist making lots of sweet stuff we're doing OK. Eg as I have so much soup, I'm finding I'll snack on that rather than toast. I made sweet potato & quinoa soup last week. Not only is it yummy, it's filling and full of protein, so I eat small portions and feel full for longer. Which is what I need to stop grazing on rubbish. Hmm, think I'll make some hummos for snacking.
tash it wont really taste different! can you mix pork and lamb?
I don't have a TMX. I haven't seen one in real life so excuse me if this sounds daft. But can you only cook one dish at a time or can you do a few at once???
You can only make one at a time although there is a steamer attachment for on top so you can plan well and do more than one thing but the thermie cooks things quicker and easier ie risotto in under 20 minutes without having to stand there and stir. My DH just made lemon butter in 10 minutes. That includes prep, cleaning and drying up and jarring it!
I only just got mine so am learning loads. Others will have more info on the steamer as I haven't used mine yet.

Hi Girls- I've been stalking and can't not reply any more!!!
I got my Thermie about 3 weeks ago and can't believe how much I love it!! I have cooked in it prob 2-3 times a day nearly every day since it arrived. Tonight I did the Chicken and Cashews wuth Satay Sauce and Coconut rice from Quirky Cooking and it was sublime- will def have it once a week from now on. So healthy and easy.
Other than that, from the EDC I've done the choc chip cookies, banana walnut and date bread, pumpkin soup, foccacia, custard, trad ice-cream, ragu, chicken stock, veg stock paste, chicken curry, mashed potato. The only 'fail' I've had were the muffins..they were tough and rubbery but next time I'll just cut down mixing time. Did a diff version of the Too Easy Choc Cake yesterday and that was AMAZING and quick (throw it all in and mix for 55 seconds)!!! Also found a SUPER EASY honey soy chicken and veg which I mix with noodles.
What an INCREDIBLE machine- how have I coped without it???
I've got my demo on Sat- can't wait to get my Thermoserves...just wondering, has anyone bought any of the cookbooks?

Olive - I dont eat pork. I'll just give it a go and see what it's like.
V-love - I have the GF and Indian cookbooks. I also have the Traveling with TMX cookbook though havent been impressed with it. I want to get the Meat book and the Budget booklet.
Currently eating coconut ice cream. It's yummy but now I have an ice cream headache
