Question Celebrity Slim vs other shake diets???

    Hi girls,
Wanted to know if any of you lovely ladies had tried celebrity slim or any other shake type diets and how they went. I need to lose a few kilos and have had optifast suggested to me by two friends but wanted to know if anyone had had any success on it or any other ones?

bummer.....you see these things advertised with so-and-so lost 20+kgs in 15weeks etc and you think thats too good to be true and most of the time I think it probably is. Would still like to hear if anyone else has had any luck with them or perhaps another form of dieting. I am exercising as well doing about 10k's a day on my exercise bike so hopefully something will start happening.

I found the best & easiest diet for long term weight loss is the Low GI diet. Its not cutting out any meals & the whole family can do it, which makes life easier when ur making din dins. U dont lose weight super fast on it. Its more of a lifestyle change. I was on it for a while but got lazy & started cheating lol. If u just google Low GI diets heaps of stuff should come up.
Ive also tried the super soup diet. Its a great one for winter. Its good just to kick start ur weightloss. If u do it correctly u lose around 5-6kg in 7 days. Its only a 7 day diet tho. But if u go back to eating heaps of bad foods the weight comes straight back. And to be honest, as nice as that soup was, i never want to even smell it again!
I'm now on one of those 14 day detox diet things from the chemist. Not so much to lose weight, i just feel like i need to give my inside a bit of a makeover. Plus back on the Low GI diet. I dont really have that much weight to lose, i just wanna fit my old jeans again wahhhhh!!!
Anyway, i hope u find something that works for u. I know how hard it is to lose weight after having a child.

I have used optifast and for me was the best way to lose weight. I have a friend who tried it and couldn't stand the taste so didnt last a day on it. I lost abuot 10 kg in 3 weeks. That was just having the shakes and a small amount of vegies at night. I think if you can get past day 3 and keep yourself busy it is easy to stick to it. Coming off the shakes is difficult because if you go back to the way you were eating before you will just put the weight back on. When you start eating again you have to eat well (like weight watchers or something like that).

I went away for 3 weeks to my parents place to start and when my hubby saw me after 3 weeks he couldnt believe it. It does work if you can stick to it but it is definately not for everyone.

I dont know about Celebrity Slim. Seems to be the same sort of thing as Optifast. I must add that Optifast is the only shake that I have tasted and liked. I add a lot more water than they say and I also have to drink it ice cold.

All the best with whatever you chose to do.

    Linda,
Does your optifast come out lumpy when you make it. A friend gave me a couple to try and it comes out all lumpy which is sooo gross. Have tried some of the celebrity slim and dissolves really well and tastes great. Can you still drink tea and coffee when on them? And CONGRATS on losing so much weight thats awesome!!! Thanks for your reply too.

I've been on the "success" diet through Amcal Chemists for the last month and lost 5kgs... but once I stop, the weight just goes back on. It's a tough one. I lost 10kgs on it last year after being on it for 3mths so that was good, about 1kg per week you can lose, initially you will lose 3-4 kgs in one week but that's with "ketosis" which you can achieve by sticking with the diet 100% and NOT having sugar or cheating....and what happens is that your body starts eating from the "fat" stores in your body rather than the "energy" stores in your body. you'll only have 1/3 of the kilojoules you are meant to eat in a day so you tend to feel lethargic at first the first few days as your body overcomes not eating sugar and carbs.... once you get past first week you are fine.
I do believe they are "yo-yo" diets because they aren't long term and once you go off it the weight comes back, even if slowly....

Its good if you need to lose weight for a special night out or something, if you stick with it you will lose 3kgs in one week... i did anyway.... now i am just having 1 shake at b'fast time (its fast too! i can sleep in! hehe) and for lunch have a salad with fish (mackerel tinned) and yoghurt and for dinner steak and veges or meat and veges trying to cut out bread and carbs.... (thats the hard part!) MY DF is still on the diet but i am getting tired of it. it does get "boring" but good luck!!!!

Optifast does go lumpy and a bit thick. That's why I use a little more water and use a milkshake shaker and shake like mad with ice in it. If you are going to use the shake diet and like the celebrity slim maybe use that if it dissolves nicely. I might have a go at it once I finish breastfeeding (in about 18 months hehehe).

The fernwood slimplicity shake is lovely, plus mix it in the blender with fresh/frozen fruit and/or flavouring essences.

I have just started the celebrity slim and i must say that i am presently surprised at the taste of the shakes. They dont go lumpy and some of them are actually really scrummy - especially the vanilla!!

I need to 5kg to get back into the healthy gap but would like to loose 10kg. But im also trying to concieve so anything that i can loose before getting pregnant will be a blessing. I will stop taking the shakes and focus on a healthy eating plan once i get pregnant.

Will let you know how i go.

I've used both the Slimplicity plan and shakes from Fernwood and I tried the Celebrity Slim ones as well. I think the shakes are great for kick-starting your metabolism so that any diet plan you use has a much better chance of sticking!! I wouldn't stay on it for a long time though.

I thought the Celebrity Slim had a great variety of flavours and they do dissolve really well, but I just found the diet itself a little unrealistic for me and my lifestyle. The Slimplicity one has (or had when I did it) only two flavours - both very nice, but the only decision was Chocolate or Vanilla!!! But in saying that, I used to add fresh fruit and honey and it did give it a bit more flavour variety. I thought the eating plan with Slimplicity was fantastic, as it is really just a lifestyle change and you can easily incorporate the family on it.

I just find that I don't have the will power to follow these on my own at home, but I do if I have an appointment with someone, makes me feel like I have to prove something!

If you want to kickstart of weight loss/diet habit, my recommendation would be something extreme to detox (Cabbage Soup Diet or similar) for 7 days, then followed by a low GI healthy eating plan.

If you are keen on a "shake" based diet (that is prescriptive, which may help you keep on track perhaps?) then this is what I have done in the past for a lot cheaper, and it works really well!

For 2 meals a day, have this "smoothie"

    250ml Skimmed milk
2 heaped teaspoons of Phylissium Husks
1 heaped teasoon of InLiven (probiotic)

Blend together with ONE only of the following:

    1 small banana
    2 fresh apricots
    1/2 cup of berries
    1/2 cup watermelon
    1 large Kiwi (peeled)
I medium ripe pear, peeled and cored
    1/2 cup strawberries

    Drink it quickly!

Then for your other meal, 200g protein (grilled, steamed or baked) served with as much veggies or salad as you like. (No dressing or butter etc).

    HTH

(Disclaimer! I have lost weight very sucessfully and healthily doing this. But as with all things "diet", as soon as I eat "normally" again I stack it back on!)

    Hi everyone,
Just an update. I was going quite well on the shakes but had to stop due to lack of funds unfortunately, as we are trying to save to build our house.

I have put the weight back on in the last couple of months due to my own stupidity. Have not had the will power. Plus been on night shift and too lazy to cook healthy meals so we have spent too much on takeaway. So much for saving for our house.

Lucy, where do i got the husk from???? Does the shake taste terrible?? Does it work out cheaper than buying the shakes.
Might have to go on that cabbage soup diet....got a wedding in two weeks and I look and feel dreadful.
Are there any other diy-at-home cleansing diets anyone knows about???

You can get the husks from any suopermarket, from the health fod aisle, for about $4 for a massive bag.

And no, the sahke doesn't taste terrible at all........it just tastes like a thick smoothie........the reason you need to drink it quick is becuase it is thick......if you leave it in a glass too long, it thickens so you cant actually drink it!

Here is a 7 day kickstart that I have done, that works a treat:

    The 7 Day Kickstart Plan

    The Soup Recipe

    • 6 large onions, chopped
    • 2 green capsicums, chopped
    • 3 carrots, washed, trimmed and sliced
    • 1 head of cauliflower trimmed and chopped
    • 2 cans of tomatoes
    • 250g mushrooms, sliced
    • Half a head of cabbage, trimmed and chopped
    • 1 packet French onion soup mix
    • 1 litre vegetable juice
    • 2 stock cubes (optional)
    • 12 cups (3 litres) water
    • Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

    Directions:
~ Slice onions, put in a pot and start to sauté with a small amount of cooking spray.
~ Add capsicum and carrots and cauliflower
~ Add tomatoes, stir, and then add mushrooms and cabbage.
~ Add soup mix and stir well.
~ Add vegetable juice and water and bring to a simmer
~ Add stock cubes (and curry powder etc) if required
~ Simmer for 2 hours on low.

    Day One:
Fruit: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks- unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water.
    Day Two:
Vegetables: Eat as many fresh, raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat leafy green vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today.
    Day Three:
Mix Days One and Two: Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No Baked Potato.
    Day Four:
Bananas and Skim Milk: Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you would like on this day, along with your soup. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.
    Day Five:
Beef And Tomatoes: Up to 500g of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat grilled or baked chicken instead of beef (but absolutely no skin on the chicken.
    Day Six
Beef and Vegetables: Eat to your heart's content of beef and vegetables this day. You can even have 500g of beef or chicken, with leafy green vegetables. No Baked Potato. Eat your soup at least once.
    Day Seven:
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables: Again, eat as much as you like. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day.

I did the celebrity slim shakes back in September for 5 weeks and lost 5 kilos.I stopped after that time as I did,nt feel right not eating proper meals and my DH said I was so moody while doing it.
A week after I stopped using it I came down with Viral meningitis and spent 2 weeks in hospital.I am not sure if my immune system was run down by not eating properly and this contributed to my illness ,not really sure.
I would never do any weight loss shakes again.Having said that I was so ill in the 5 weeks that I was sick with viral meningits that I lost another 10kgs and plan to never put that back on.
So if you want to lose weight come down with viral meningitis....only kidding I would'nt wish it on anyone I would prefer childbirth anyday...

i did tony ferguson and lost 20kgs then put 15 back on. with any diet u cant just go back to eating like u used to when u get to ur goal weight. u need to just work on ur health over a long time not a quick fix. try adding more fruit, less fatty things and exercise more. it might take longer to keep the weight off but atleast there is more chance it will stay off. i have read and seen for myself the fast u loose the weight the quicker u will put it back on.

i lost 19 kilos on TF. I have put about 5 back on in the past 3 months but that wasn't my normal eating, its was a culmination of events (plus throw in all the main family birthdays between Nov-Jan, plus Christmas too much cheer.

As with any weightloss, you need to have modified eating habits afterwards. Shake doests dont necessarily teach you that in the way that something like weightwatchers does, but I'm still going back on TF to try to lose as much as I can in the next month (I have 10kg to goal) and will then go across to WW after that.
