Well... I'm a bit miserable. Last week, I went to the gym 5 times and worked HARD, the week before I was sick, the week before that I went 4 times. And....
I've gained 3 kilos. Urgh. I'm still tired, I've gone this week everyday but today. I do like pilates, but I'm only going on Tuesdays. I'm doing cardio and resistant every other day. I just don't understand why I'm putting weight on.
-
Christy, it's not uncommon to put weight on before you lose it. I doubt you're putting on FAT but rather MUSCLE. Don't stress. Keep going with what you're doing. If you're concerned about weight loss, you could try monitoring your calorie intake as well as your exercise.

Christy, MG is right! In my first week of the 12 week challenge I'm doing, I put on weight but after that I started to lose. You can try taking your measurements as well because sometimes you'll drop in cm's but the scales won't have moved much. In the last month I've only lost 1.6kg but lost 15.5cm. Keep going with what you're doing! You'll see results soon! Pilates is awesome. I love it and maybe one day want to instruct classes.
Update for me ...had my second swim class tonight and it's awesome! Got a long way to go but I just can't believe how much I've improved in just 2 lessons. I'm really enjoying it too, its something I'm thinking of keeping up regularly long term.

I'm getting back on track on the fitness bandwagon.
I've been walking most lunchtimes for around 30-40mins. Today I walked from home to work, about 5.5km. It was great and I'll definately be doing it more often.

Hugs Christy, those increases in weight can be a massive kick in the guts eh? Hang in there, it will come off as MG said.
Welcome Back DB!! Great to see you again!!
Awesome work re the weight loss and swim classes Eluned!!
AFM - I'm still exercising, not daily, but unless I'm sick (kids bringing home snotty noses from CC gah!) I'm doing either Body Attack or Body Pump (minus the ab's) or RPM. I'm still 4.5kgs less than when I started DS' pregnancy - so I'm hoping to keep this going. Eating well hasn't been a challenge - no cravings for yucky food, I'm on top of this pg!! Yay for me!
Nettie , dragoncookie - where for art thou?

One Zumba class last week - skipped the friday class to go horse riding instead. I hadn't ridden my horse since June last year (and rode the last time this June just gone, when I test rode the horse we ended up only having for a week), so I've only just gotten over DOMS! I went for a brisk walk with DD on my back when I visited my parents, and feel a bit better this week for the activity of the last couple of weeks :)
-
daniellabella, yay well done on the walk.
Mayaness, Zumba rocks! It's amazing how a bit of activity can make you feel better. The hardest part is just starting to do something.
leesa, woohoo well done :)
Got a bit slack at the end of last week with the exercise missing sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So went to RPM on Sunday. Last night, I showed up to the gym expecting to do Body Balance and then Zumba, but Zumba was cancelled so they replaced it with Body Jam and I was unsure about doing it as it was one of the classes I hadn't done before but by the end of Balance, I decided to stick around (with some encouragement from FB friends :) ) and it was sooo much fun. Didn't burn as many calories as I do in Combat and Attack, but it was still good. I did Combat tonight and still don't get aligator pushups! Tomorrow is swimming. Less than two weeks until the Triathlon :o

leesa i have been without internet since the start of the month... and sick on and off with cold, flu, infection, ongoing bullcr@p since the week of my birthday.
now i am feeling humiliated about going back to the gym.
i am a commitment failure. i thought i was doing a good thing letting my body rest while i was sick but i feel like not going made me get sicker and stay sicker longer.
i am hoping to kick back into with zumba on thursday night but i will need to take it easy as i am still not feeling 100%
-
DC  I hope you're feeling better soon. In the week before I started my 12 week challenge, I came down with a really bad cold and it took me 4 weeks to get over it. There were quite a few days where I didn't exercise when I really wanted to and on the days where I was feeling ok, I got out for a walk in some fresh air. In hindsight I think it took me so long to get over a simple cold was because adding in all the new exercise and changing my eating habits to healthier food options made my body stop and think about it all, kinda like it was detoxing ITMS?
Don't give up, you're not a failure! Hang in there hon and if you have to work out at 50% of your usual capacity, then do it if you feel up to it. Rest when you need to and don't beat yourself up. You'll get there xox

Well girls, the worst thing was after my PT session and finding out I've gained and increased, I had to go to work for 4 days, 3 of those were standing on my feet for 7 hours, but by the end of the day I would be too tired to do anything. When I woke up I would stretch for 30 minutes to help my body, but I was frustrated because there was no room for exercise and I wanted to get back and start working harder. I got back Sat night at 10pm, so Sunday straight to the gym for an hour and then another hour this morning. I picked up more resistance as per the PT's suggestions and worked harder than I had before. I really am getting used to the weights and am starting to like it! What I think I like most is after doing my weights and reps, going down to the stretching area and doing some core work and then stretching. Today it really got my heart going which was good because weights hasn't done that before. I must have not been working as hard as I could have before on the weights...
-
weights is a two fold thing Christy. Building muscle helps increase your calorie expenditure throughout the day. A higher heart rate during the session also increases your calorie expenditure. I understand your frustration about not getting in as much as you'd like - but remember, it balances out.
AFM - I'm having a lousy few days. I'm having a killer relapse. So much so I am begining to think I'm going to have to pull out of the stiar climb :( I've not been this bad for a long time. It's almost at the point of not being able to move. So I'm off to physio shortly. A new one. Hoping they can help.
-
MG - my heart is breaking for you chic. Is this because D changed your step technique? If so, how specifically did he change it? I read on FB the physio appt was good, but not enough to do the climb...is that still the case? Your health comes first and foremost, and there will be other stair climbs (geez, I might even come over and do one with ya after number 3 has hatched!!). I'm so so proud of you, and I know you've ALL heard me rant on - but massive kudos to MG yet again, continuing and persisting with exercise despite a massive injury deserves a cheer.
EVERYONE - 3 cheers for MG!!! Hip hip - HOORAY!!!! Hip hip - HOORAY!!!! Hip hip - HOORAY!!!!
Christy - any chance you have space where you put a cross trainer or treadmill - and hire one?
-
:cheer: MG! :cheer: MG! :cheer: MG!! Whooo hooooo! :leap: You rock, girlfriend! LOL
Sorry guys, I've been MIA :hide: as I've been on holidays and having fun mucking around with the boyz. Been doing a fair bit of walking and my back's gotten all stiff (it does from time to time) so I'll ring the physio tomorrow - she makes it all better!
Keeping up with the Yoga (and loving it!) and walking a bit. Am looking to start incorporating some other movements too like the arm thingys (off a chair to help with flabby arms) and some bike - but can't do it all at once or I'll just set myself up to fail. I'm also starting a juicing regime from tomorrow (to help with my fatty liver :( ) so that's this week's new thing. Hope to walk in the morning though!
:hello: to everyone! Thanks for asking about me Leesa
-
MG, big big hugs hon. Leesa is right, there'll be other climbs but do know that I think you're awesome for keeping on keeping on despite all your set backs with your injury. Most people would have given up altogether by now. You ARE an inspiration!
Nettie, glad you are enjoying the yoga!
christy, try not to worry about the numbers yet. Give yourself a bit more time and you will see that they will start to go down.
AFM, did Body Balance tonight. I enjoy the class but not as much as a dedicated pilates sesh. I sooo wish there was a studio close to home with suitable hours. Might have to do a search again. I really want to get more into pilates as one day I want to instruct!
DH & I did the Big Walk for kids for PMH (local children's hospital) yesterday. We did the 6km as it fitted in better with the kids. There is also an 11km and a 15km walk so might aim for that next year. We did it in an hour and a half which wasn't too bad considering the amount of people. We could probably do it a lot quicker if it was just us. Then yesterday arvo, I tested out DH's road bike. We need to put regular pedals back on it as his cleats are too big for me to use. But it's soooo much faster than my mountain bike. Plus I squeezed out 20 minutes on the xtrainer. Phew.
Signed up for the Variety Santa Fun Run....Winter, are you still in for it? I've created a team called the Red Hot Crayons! Let me know.
Starting to freak out about the triathlon. If only I could wear flippers for the swim leg....I wish! I'm glad the worst bit is the first bit. Hope I don't drown so I can finish the bike and the run  I've got my tri outfit too - a top and shorts that can be worn in the swim then straight onto the bike and then the run. Will prolly just throw a t-shirt with my race bib pre-attached on when I get out of the pool plus my sneakers. Did I say I was freaking out!
-
thanks Lees. But you know I do it because I love it. No other reason.
I don't think the relapse is because of the change D suggested. I was getting sore Wed. The change probably didn't help but I don't think it's to blame. Does that make sense? After chatting with physio yesterday, it sounds like it was going to happen anyway. And yeah, the climb is off. I can't stand for more than a few minutes at the moment let alone walk from the couch to the kitchen without pain... so I don't think the climb is the smart thing to do... unless I want to end up in hospital... in which case I'd better be dead because if I don't show up for work on the 15th my boss will kill me!
Toni, your plan sounds good. I find that regular exercise (esp walking) helps stop me from getting a stiff back.
Eluned - I am so proud of you hon! You're doing great!!! And don't freak out about the tri - you will be fine!!! You've put in the hard work. You will do great! I love your team name too! I wish I could come and do it with you! But, I'll be along side you in spirit with my magic pompoms cheering you along!!!!
AFM - I'm still sore. Muscles are much better today and it is all residual pain plus pinched nerves. Looking forward to physio after work tomorrow. Hopefully he can release my hip flexor. That's the most uncomfortable bit at the moment as it stops me from walking. Don't know how I'm going to survive work this week. Might have to go on light duties... joy. I've avoided doing that so far so to have to do it now is annoying.
I've cancelled PT for tomorrow. D hasn't replied although he did send me a message this morning asking if, now I've had a chance to sleep on it, if I still intended to quit the climb. I haven't told him how bad I am. I probably should but I can't be bothered. I feel like I'm going into W&P a bit... but I'll be fine once I can get this hip and back sorted...

I picked up wii Active on special on Sunday. Have done 2 days out of the 30 day challenge so far. Today is a wii Active scheduled break (which is good coz it means I can watch rafters). While I'm doing the exercises it doesn't feel much like working out, but at the end I realise how much I'm sweating and that I really did work my muscles. Gonna try really hard to stick to the full 30 days. I have scheduled workouts 5 days a week on the 30 day challenge, and there is lots of variety so far so I'm not getting bored.

Hi everyone :D I'm just dipping my toes in, after being away from BB for such a long time... hope I can join in here?
I am rejoining my gym tomorrow... after having 8 months off, and gaining at least 6kg during that time, I absolutely must do something about it... not just to lose weight, but to be fit again - I miss the muscle tone I used to have!
I originally quit because I moved further away from gym, and catching buses to and from with DD was just too much effort when combined with the school drop off, and going to uni etc etc. But now I have 3 months uni holidays ahead of me, so I'm really motivated to get my fitness back! I have a treadmill at home here, but I have found it just doesn't do it for me like gym used to... I get bored and unmotivated really quickly with the treadmill - before I've even had a chance to make a difference to my fitness.
Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all :)
