same here kim take away si my weakness especially at work :(
ohh and i need to increase water intake
I have 30 kgs to lose to be happy....and 50 to lose to be in a healthy range
Someone asked about the scales on the Wii - I've found that if you have the Wii on carpet or floating floors, you can get one measurement, and then move the board and get a completely different measurement. So if you keep the board in the exact same place it would work, but if not it might be better to buy some scales. That's what I'm gonna do anyway :)
The mini challenges sound great! Although I'm not sure I can cope with no takeaway for a week...
Small tasks sound like a good idea.
Berenice, I found the opposite with the Wii for weighing. I discovered my bathroom scales added an extra 2kg after I weighed myself on the Wii for the first time. The tiles just had to be ever so slightly off and it would give me another weight. With the Wii balance board, I put on the extra feet you get and weighed on the carpet and hard floor and got the same. I loved it when the Wii told me I was 2kg lighter than what my scales told me so I'm sticking with that
Mini tasks sound awesome :D
I think I'll just stick with the balance board for weigh ins. We have pretty flat wood floorboards so it should be ok.
Thank you girls for your support in the Mini Tasks suggestion
It makes me feel like I can suggest something that everyone likes, and thinks is a good idea.
Especially when my self esteem is low in other areas
It's nice to be out of my comfort threads and meeting new BB members (to me) :D
I don't know about you guys but I am really excited!!! What is the mini-task for the first week? I am happy to let others guide that area and I can just concentrate on the numbers :)
I'm pumped to and raring to go. I'm ready for our first first mini task and the Wii challenges for those subbed to that one as well.
The last time I did sit ups I was in agony for days but if that's the challenge then bring it! I will warn you now that I can't run, just can't, never have, although I can run on the spot so that may have to do if we get to that.
I had a tummy bug 2 weeks ago and I lost 2kg down to a weight that I haven't been in over 10 years....I think I will be a bit sad to see the reality when I weigh in tomorrow since I have eaten just about all the Easter eggs in the house. Oh well.
Look at me, I'm rambling with all this excitement. I just hope I stay on target but I know you girls will be here slogging it out with me. Woot!
ok... it seems I am being roped into this challenge *stares at Sibbie* hahahah.
I want to lose 8kg. Am joining the gym.. and starting zumba classes next week! hahahaha
Snacking is my downfall more than anything. And I need to drink more water and add more fresh fruit & veg.. I'm a bit of a carb-aholic  I would much prefer to get pregnant and have another 2yrs of breastfeeding to get the weight off.. but that doesn't seem to be happening (hoping a health kick might help in this area!).. so here I am :)
For anyone interested in weight training exercises & routines.. DH introduced me to an iphone app called iFitness (I think that's what it's called... I'll double check later :) ) which I'll be checking out more thoroughly.
ok :) im in too id like to lose fifteen kilo i wonder if that's possible lol :) have to go find my tape measure.
Mwuhahahahahahah I got you Liz !!! This will keep us motivated!!!!!
ETA: Was going to say - why don't we start with something fairly simple for the mini-task... Like the drinking 2L water one? That might ease everyone into it :)
Alrighty count me in too. I will PM my details a bit later as I am on my xtrainer at this very minute! I love my iPhone :)
Anyway my goal is 8kg all up but want to lose 4kg by mid May to start off with. That will bring me to my prebaby weight.
I also thought it might be interesting and helpful if we all share what we're doing, e.g. what and how much exercise, what diet changes we're making, etc. It might help others with ideas :).
argh.. cant find my tape measure!!!!!!
When everyone has submitted their details to Kry , perhaps we can work our way down the list, and each week, the next person picks the task activity for the week ?
Hollo, I found a tape measure online, believe it or not, now I cant find it again, its' on a government website.
I had a few extra choccie's last night, it's like my final hurrah before I have to weigh in
You guy have actually gotten me (well actually DH and I) quite pumped. I never feel like this when I started to think I 'should' lose weight so I'm hoping it's a good sign.
Bengal that sounds like a good idea about working down the list. :D
When's everybody going to be doing their 'weigh in' day?
Sterla, that's a good idea too. Might make me more accountable I think :scratchhead:
Liz, I'd love to try Zumba! Let us know how it goes!!
AFM
I'm using Calorie King to keep track of what I eat. I suck at writing it down so at least on the computer it can't get lost.
I went for my first walk in aggges today. We are staying right next to the botanic gardens for a few months so I plan to drag the kids down there at least every couple of days.
We swim every day though I'm not sure I'm getting much actual exercise watching DS and trying to catch him every time he tries to jump in - but it is moving.
And DH has told me I can get a Wii and Wii fit! I'm so excited. :D
He's having to do physical training with his new job 3times per week and he does physical stuff the other mornings so we're both hoping to lose. He was pretty bummed with his weight when they weighed him on Monday so he's the extra incentive I need.
Hi guys. Just to let you know I am away Mon to Thurs next week for family stuff. Please send your details by Sunday night so I can get a chance to put them in. Otherwise I won't get a chance until I get back Thurs. Anyone who sends later...I haven't forgotten you! I will do it when I return. Thanks!
ALrighty...measurements done..am a tad bit confused though, I don't think I've done it right. I do still have a fair amount of my baby belly, but my tummy and hip measurements were almost the same? My tummy definitely sticks out past my hips...maybe it's because I have 'love handles' for the hip measurement though?
Oh well...I am determined, it's ALL going to go..eventually..lol. I was pretty right with my estimate too, I have about 15kg to lose before I'll be back where I was pre-pg.
Okay, will do Krys - I'll send my details tomorrow.
AFM: What I'm planning to do is what I have actually been doing for the past couple of weeks already. As far as eating, I'm not following and diet plan or calorie counting - I'm simply just making sure I don't eat any junk through the day, and then allow myself something small of an evening (a row or two of chocolate for example).
I go for a walk everyday (with DS in the pram, which makes for a bit of extra work), and I'm also going to start doing this exercise DVD I have that has 4x10 minute work outs - one for upper body, one for butt, thighs, etc, one cardio and one for flexibility. I'll just do the entire DVD over the week.
So that's my plan :)
Good idea Sterla!
I am actually going to weigh in tomorrow as officially I will do weigh-ins Saturday. (I just won't send them to myself until the Monday - ha ha!). Anyway I haven't been great today but I have soccer tonight so will spend 90 mins running around a field. I think Friday is the only day I don't really need to count my calories if I don't totally indulge. I wish I had soccer every night!
Apart from that I am going to try and do exercise 6 days a week - 1 soccer game, 1 soccer training, 2 5km jogs, 2 pilates videos. That is what I do on my good weeks. Next week though I go to my cousins house with DS. It will be a challenge as her cooking is really good. But I will be strong! So that is my goal for next week - keeping up the exercise even while away.
We're having last chance maccas tonight.. haha!!!!
But for our changes, we'll start working out - cos we don't seem to make time for that, I'll have to drop some of my BB and FB time to do it though (darn it!)
But other changes are dietary - I'll be switching foods with lower fat substitutes, like:
Ice cream now yoghurt frozen in freezer beforehand
Chocolate & Lollies after dinner - rice crackers and homemade hommus (yummo)
Sandwiches for lunch - mountain bread wraps or corn thin sangas
And I'll also make myself drink a glass of water before having a cuppa. I live on cuppas during the day (and so I should considering the lack of sleep I get each night) so hopefully this will be a way of upping my water intake. Just gotta find the time each day to wee thats all.. lol
I'm not supposed to be eating chocolate at ALL, so that should be the easiest to change. I'll still treat myself to a glass of wine and some cashews if I've had a realllly bad day though - can't be expected to give up everything.
But I've done the calorie counting thing before (lost 22kg in 5 months) but I didn't keep it off, and its far too hard for me to stick to as a lifestyle type thing. So I'll just stick to eating well - everything in moderation, and exercising and see how that works!!
I'm more motivated than ever to get this blubber off me - so can't wait till monday! :D
LOL Arimeh...we are having pizza for tea tonight  Then I am determined..no more takeaway for at least 2 weeks...small goals to start with!
Krysallys, I will measure & weigh in tomorrow and PM you my details.
My goal is to lose a kilo a week and our freezer has been emptied of icecream so :crossfingers:
Can't wait for Monday! I have been for a swim today and 2 fairly long walks this week so that's a start
Wow, some great ideas here!
I am having alot of trouble sticking to anything weight-loss relatedat the moment for some reason. I have all of these great intentions and never follow through. I weighed myself last night after not getting on the scales for a few months -too scared and it was depressing me seeing how heavy I was without it changing, though I wasn't doing much to change it! But I have PUT ON weight, and OMG, I am 93.3kgs....I'm so horrified with myself. At Chrissy time I was about 86ish kg. I don't really know what has changed. Well when I really think about it I suppose it's my attitude and just not being careful with what I eat. If I want a second serve, I've been having it, no matter what it is or whether I really want it or not. Servings are as big as I want. Absolutely NO excercise what so ever! Breast feeds for DS are decreasing too, down to 1-2 most days, occaisionally he'll still snack a little, but not like he was a few months ago. Although I don't think it really helped in losing weight forne, I think it helped keep it off a bit.
So some strategies for me for week 1:
No chocolate. I am a chocoholic, I have to STOP!
More water.
Smaller portions.
No butter on sandwiches/toast, no sugar in tea/coffee.
2-3 serves of fruit, 3-4 serves of veg a day.
Exersice 30min-1hr most days. I have to get my wii fit fixed so I can Wii fit when the kids are in bed!
Try to get more sleep. This will help me focus and be more energetic. No more up-til-midnight cleaning or on FB/BB!! Since we are up at 5.30am most days, I *should* go to bed no later than 10.30ish!
That's all I can think of. That is alot for me to try to do. But I will try. I need to shift this weight, especially since we are ttc. I don't think my body would handle a pg at this weight or more!
Ideas to help:
- I dish up on smaller plates than usual, even when we've got guests over, they can go back for seconds, I stop at one.
- I drink a glass of water about 20 mins before eating.
- If I am eating red meat, I have a small bowl of pawpaw or pineapple about 20 mins before eating the main.
- Meat no bigger than the palm of my hand.
- I carry a 750ml bottle of water with me at all times. When at work I try to drink one before lunch and one before I go home.
- I've changed the way I get to work, so I'm getting 20-30 mins of walking each day.
- Reverse the way I eat (primarily on weekends), I have a HUGE breakfast, medium sized lunch, small dinner. During week, medium breakfast, large lunch, small dinner.
- If I don't feel like eating, I have a protein shake instead and a handful of almonds.
i'm thinking about doing a tony ferguson thing.. and watching my portion sizes. continue 2-3 gym classes per week!! *fingers crossed *
My Dr has me on Reductil for the next 2 months to see if it can help me get past this plateau I'm on. If at the end of the 2 months I've not kept on dropping, then he and I have discussed the options of going on Duramine.
I've lost 31kgs and I have 26 left to go.
good work sopdet! thats awesome!
Wow, Congratulations Sopdet, that's fantastic!
Great tips you have too. Funny you mention about the smaller plates. At home we have huge bowls and plates, but in our temporary digs they are only tiny. Amazing how full you feel when you've eaten what looked like a bigger serving because it took up more of the bowl/plate.
No worries Krys, will weigh me tomorrow.
Kell, I know what you mean about the sleep. I was reading in WW mag that 7 or more hours a night is beneficial to weight loss.
Can i join?? do i post the stuff here or in private i don't mind either way i'd like to lose 10 kgs and go to the gym at least 4 times a week.
so far i've been once this week but i will be going tonight!
Hi GabberQueen - check out the original post in this thread for more details. But you basically pm them to me and I post up differences between weeks but not actual amounts. All details in first post. Welcome! :)
I have been using the wii fit. I try to do at least 30mins a day.
I went to the Gym yesterday first time in 3weeks but DH was away and it doesn't have a babysitting place there. So I have to try and get up earlier and go or have dinner cooking and duck out whilst it cooks before it shuts.
I have been doing a sort of weight watchers diet but I have forgotten how many points I am on so its just by memory and I am not strictly point watching. Actually not at all but avoiding food that is high points and eating alot of 0point foods and 1-2points.
Day5 and I have lost 4kilos already. But I do this all the time when I start a diet the weight falls of for the first week and then it doesn't budge after then. Guess its fluid. And I have been limiting my computer time as I use it alot and blame it on my weight gain. Trying to be more active around the house etc.
I need to drink more water also which I haven't done yet. Chips, lollies, cookies and cakes have been replaced with yogurt, diet soup, weight watchers jelly and fruit. Main meals are now consisting of alot of vegies and no sauces or cream dishes.
Ok so I got a question about the measurement of the hips - I've never been sure as to whether you measure where your love handles are (or my love "cushions" as they are more than just handles) or where it sorta goes in, like where the c-section cut would be (obviously not THERE, but in the middle of that area.. LOL)
Help please?
Oh and I just weighed myself on the wii - it got up me cos I put on 5kg since last time.. ROFL
ETA: Oh and can my DH join in? He's a member here too.
Hi Mel. I measure where the top of my hipster undies sit. But I think wherever is fine as long as you are consistent. :) And of course your DH can join.
I ended up measuring the widest part of my love "cushions".. cos where my hipsters sit is on the skinniest part of my hips, and that probably defeats the purpose.. LOL
Ooooh boy they're shocking. I'm embarrassed to PM them to you Krys... I can imagine you shaking your head and saying "oh mel... how could you let yourself go like that"... lol.. I'm much fatter than I was when you last saw me!!!
Don't worry about it Mel. I honestly don't even really think about it. I just get the numbers and automatically input them into my spreadsheet. And I am certainly not in any position to judge as I know exactly how easy it is to put on weight and how hard it is to lose.
Hi everyone
I would love to join in. I would like to lose 10kg but 5kg would be a good start. I would like to lose that before I do my next IVF cycle in May/June. I have signed up for calorie king and between that and walking/going to the gym I hope I can stay motivated to get there. I lost about 4kg before Christmas but then I injured myself and I've put it all back on again :-(
Krys thanks for organising this! I will PM you my measurements tomorrow!
