I think I will have to start Sunday. DH has to fly interstate for a funeral and will be gone tomorrow and Wed nights. So tomorrow is definitely out and Thurs looks unlikely. But hey, as long as I start right!
-
Ooh just came across this thread....I've been contemplating doing this for the past couple of months! So count me in too, if it's not too late!
-
I was up with a sick daughter all night last night, so I turned my alarm off...
I'll try again tomorrow morning.
-
well tonight didnt happen for me and it is going to be way to hot tomorrow to even contemplate it but wednesday DP is home all day so i have no excuse (I hope the weather cools down by then!)
I have the pod casts! Thank you!!!!
-
Was up with DS last night a lot so forgot this until the thread - THANK YOU thread! It's cold and raining now, but if it's better tomorrow I'll run to nursery to pick DS up. 25 minutes... may run there, back down the nursing home street (3 on one street) and circle back to Nursery again.
Very scared of all this running! Pleased to see it's killing other people, I'll feel less alone.
-
Sooooo sore today! Lol!
And for every who is just joining - no, it's definitely not too late! Many of us aren't doing the 3 runs a week, so you're welcomed to join in anytime, as we're all going to be at different stages of the challenge!
-
Well I was hoping to do my first run this morning but DS hasn't let me! I've got to go out today and have pilates tonight so I think I will do my first run tomorrow.
In the meantime, I'm getting my ipod ready with some running tunes :)
-
How is everyone doing?
I just did my second run, in the 30 degree sun, round sydney harbour, and gee was it nice to round the bend, and see the opera house in-front, and fee the sea breeze on my face... But ouchies...my legs are sore...
-
I did my first run this morning and it felt really good! I did it on the elliptical at home so DS could play on the floor next to me. Doing my second run on Friday and I think I will try and get outside with the pram. Planning on doing the 3rd run on Sunday morning and leaving DS at home with DP :)
I've printed out the program and am crossing off each run, each week as I go.
-
Good one Lyn!!! I am hoping to leave DS with my DH for my next run too...
-
I did my first Week 3 run yesterday, and was struggling by the end of it.
I've found that the advice they give that you shouldn't be too puffed out is not really realistic - even at the most gentle pace, it shatters me. Having said that, I think it is important to pace yourself; I do mine at a gentle jog, I just can't finish the run if I really open it up.
I have found Week 3 a little bit easier than Week 2, I think because Week 3 is essentially 2 sections, both a 90 second run and then a 3 minute run, so psychologically it seems easier than five or six smaller runs.
-
I tried to start last night by jogging on the spot and walking around the lounge room - DH is away at a funeral so I can't leave the boys to go and run. But I was timing my self on my iphone and the battery went flat. So I did 10 minutes. And I did my Pilates weights class today. Hopefully I can still start properly tomorrow or Sunday.
-
Walked again last night, we have two huge hills to get up to come home, not looking forward to running them lol.
MR good for you doing it around your lounge room! Yay to everyone who has started!!
-
Well done everyone!
I'm doing week 1 session 2 tomorrow morning at 5.30am. I was sore right up until yesterday, but did 40 imns on my bike yesterday (usually a breeze but it was hell with sore legs!) and then stretched a lot after, and the pain is gone today.
I've been told by my DH that I have to stretch lots before and after if I don't want to be sore. And it seemed to work yesterday so will try that tomorrow morning.
-
Yep, can't do too much stretching.
I swam 700m today. My arms are killing me. I forgot how much effort swimming was.
-
There was no way I was running in the heat we had today... So I need to get DH to watch DS tomorrow, so I can get in another run.
I did heaps of stretching before and after and it certainly helped. And Katie, I did mine in a very hilly region, and it was not too bad... but the hills did hit me just as I was starting my run intervals
-
I have done two runs now! OK, short runs (15 minutes each). Because the ground around here is icy and I don't want to fall over (even the ducks are ice-skating). And pushing a heavy pram up a hill isn't easy. I'm such a wuss! Going to really go for it next week at Uni when I don't have to take DS on runs with me.
BTW, I found the 30 second runs really fun and was looking forward to the next one starting. Just enough to get me warm and a bit breathless but I felt great! Good idea to do it indoors but I can run on the spot for 25 minutes anyway and it doesn't help me running IRL - maybe see if I can chase DS about some more this afternoon LOL.
-
I havent been able to go for a run yet - did a walk last night though but i seem to be getting my throat infectio back again so I will just have to get the wii fit out of hte box i think!!
I am getting an ipod thingo on the weekend too so i can get those pod thingos to listen to
-
The ipod podcasts are great because they tell you when to start running and when you stop running. The one I downloaded yesterday has this nice man who tells you that you're doing great and you only have 20 secs left to run etc! Lol!
I did session 2 of week 1 this morning as planned, and feel great! Though I noticed that the podcast makes you run 60 secs then walk 90 secs so I think I did the wrong thing at the first session when I did 30 secs running and 90 secs walking! Either way, I managed this morning's run ok, wasn't too puffed out and rose a good sweat, so I'm happy! Stretched lots too after so hopefully won't be too sore tomorrow.
-
Did Week 3 Session 2 this morning. Yeeha!
-
You're going great guns Schmick!
-
Sushee - I have that same podcast!
I did run number 2 of week 1 this morning. Did it on the elliptical trainer again inside in the aircon (way toooo hot here today to run outside!). It felt slightly easier than the first session. Maybe my body is just starting to get used to this running thing now :) Going to do the third run on Sunday morning but outside and DP can look after DS.
-
Weird thing just happened to my post and lost it. Oh well.
Anyway, I was just excited that I have just finished week one. Did the third run this morning and it felt really good. Found it sooo much more harder to run on the footpath than on my elliptical trainer and half way through I thought I wasn't going to get through the next run. But I pushed through it and did the whole thing! It felt really good :) Yeah!
-
Great work Laranna! I'm only doing it twice a week so my last week 1 run is tomorrow morning. I know what you mean about the last few runs - I kept thinking I wasn't going to make it through them too!
I missed my walk with my friend this morning (my regular Sunday morning walk) so am making up by hitting the spin bike this evening. Hopefully my legs won't be too tired tomorrow morning.
-
YAY Lyn, and Schmickers!!!, and sush for doing all that spin!!! And RH for getting out in the icy conditions... MR, did you manage to get out?
I finished week one yesterday, and have my week two podcasts ready to go tomorrow. Looking forward to the longer run. Hope I am ready for it, and that it is not toooo hot. Might have to carry some water???!
-
hi guys hope you don't mind if I joim in. I did my first session today and feel great. For someone who has never really done any running before I found it a challenge but I was so happy I had achieved it when I finished. :p
I treated myself to a new pair of runners today when I finished session 1 as I really dont have any appropriate running shoes and they were 1/2 price. Planning on doing session 2 week 1 on tuesday and session 3 thurs or fri.
-
Welcome Sararose! I've never run before either so we can be beginners together!
I piked out of my run this morning as it was raining when I woke up. So I will do a session on the spin bike tonight (didn't do one last night in the end) and try to do the last session of week1 of the C25K tomorrow.
-
Ok I'm going to start this today!!
I need to step up my exercise routine a knotch so I'm going to start this program. For the past three weeks I have been walking EVERY day from between 30 mins to 2 hours. I am feeling fitter (and have lost a few kilos) but it's starting to slow up and not feel as challenging anymore.
I'm looking forward to being able to run!!
-
Well..... running at midday, in the 32 degree heat, after not doing any exercise for four days, and trying out week 2 was a bit of a challenge..... I didn't make the last run interval for the heat  But will get my second week2 run in on Friday morning....
Amy did you get out?
How is everyone else doing?
-
Hi guys,
I'm sorry to report that I'm having to temporarily stop my participation in this challenge.
I have a knee that's showing signs of arthritis, but since losing 23kgs, it's stopped hurting me. I can cycle without any pain at all, so I thought running would be okay too.
Except since I've started running, I've developed a 'clicking' sound in that knee, not just when running but when doing simple things like driving or climbing stairs. It doesn't really hurt but I think I should get it checked out, as I don't want to be doing any damage, especially as the program gets more challenging as the weeks pass. So for now, I'm going to give up running.
I'll still be cycling though, so am not giving up exercise, as such. Just running, for now.
But I'll be sticking around to urge you all on!
-
I did my first jog last night!!
I alternated between walking and jogging - not strictly to the C25k plan though. I would jog between lamp posts and then walk between the next and so on. It was EXHILERATING!!! I really enjoyed jogging and felt fantastic for it. A bit sore today but this is the next natural step for me. My 5km walks aren't as challenging as they once were.
I cannot wait to get back out there tonight and push myself a bit harder!
-
Oh Sushee, that's not good. I hope it's nothing serious. Thank you for encouraging us to start this challenge :)
Amy - well done on getting out! Have you downloaded the podcasts? They tell you when to walk and when to run and the music tempo is set to whether you are running or walking at the time. It's great!
Well, I've been at a funeral most of the day so I hope to get my run in very soon after I feed DS and put dinner on. I'll be doing the first session of Week 2.
-
Ladies, do you mind if I join you? I am up to the second session on week 2 (early days yet), but have increasecd the total time of running to 30 minutes (instead of 20 mins), just so I get that little bit extra :).
I have been talked into traning for a half marathon later this year by some friends so I really need to pick up the pace (not to mention loose the last 5 kilos to be back to pre-pregnancy weight but would love to loose more ). Looking forward to receiving and dishing out 'exercise' vibes :excited:
Happy running ladies
-
sushee I hope your knee problem isnt serious, mine have always clicked lol
-
Really Sararose? Maybe it's nothing after all then. :) I hope so!
My brother suggested that I start taking glucosamine. He has the same problem, he reckons, and the supplement helped him heaps. So I'm getting some this weekend, and hopefully it will help.
-
Yay! I've just finished Week 2 :) I feel stuffed but great. My knees are a little sore though. Anyone got any ideas on how to overcome that?
It was a hard run this morning. I felt tired and my body felt heavy. After the first run I thought I wasn't going to be able to finish it, but I did and I'm so glad I did! I kept picturing myself coming on here and saying "YAY! I finished Week 2!!" :) and that got me through it.
-
Hey Laranna, Make sure you wear good cushioned shoes and stretch well. I used to get really sore knees and avoided running as I wouldnt then be able to bend my knees with my body weight. But this time I got proper shoes and am careful to warm up well and it hasn't been happening. HTH
-
Well done Lyn
AFM, I abandoned week 2 for the heat, and am going to get back into it next week.
-
krysalyss - thanks for the tip....what sort of stretching do you recommend for the knees? I stretch my quads and hammies already. My knees are killing me tonight so I don't know what's wrong with them. I can barely put weight on my right knee, my left isn't too bad.
-
Hi everyone I have now finished week 1 and am very happy with myself lol
its going to be over 40C most of the week here so I am going to have to go late at night but I dont want to stop so Ill see how I go
