    Cleaning house windows and oven?

    Hi Everyone,

My windows and oven need cleaning. I have never successfully cleaned either of these items!!!

Suggestions on methods/products would be great. I like to keep toxic products to a min because I am pregnant and have little ones at home.

I just use glass cleaner on windows and a scowra (sp?) on the oven, works fine for me =)

I fill up my laundry tub (its huge!!) with piping hot waer and baking soda and put in the oven racks to soask for a day or so and use a scowra to clean them...with the actual oven I just use some gumption and scrub and wipe out several times with a clean cloth.

I use the windex window mousse on my windows and either newspaper or butchers paper.

    Thumbs up

If using Windex window cleaner for the windows i too recommend using newspaper to buff it up shiny with ... It's a trick my Mum taught many years ago

... I buy the Windex ' Crystal Rain ' labelled spray bottle ... it's smells gorgeous (like a really nice room spray if you use indoors at some point ... say on mirrors) ... doesn't stink anything like the usual Windex smell !!

you can clean windows with diluted white vinegar and newspaper and the oven with a bi-carb paste - that you mix up yourself and let it dry on the oven then come back and wipe off - bit a big job but then again cleaning an oven is - YUK!!!!!!! - wanna come do mine??

Windows - use tea leaves (used!) and newspaper, they come up sparkling. If you use vinegar on glass, always use a clean water damp cloth to remove vinegar residue as it can eat into the glass. Meths also works a treat on glass (I put a capful of meths in my windscreen washer water to leave it streak-free).

For the oven glass, paste of bi-carb and lemon juice, leave it for a while and remove with plastic scourer then newspaper & water. The rest of the oven the same

Actually, lemon / lime or grapefruit are all good for cleaning.

Leave a bowl of water in the oven and turn it on low to loosen to hard bits - there is no need to use those horrible caustic chemicals.

Don't ask me about windows... can't see out of them LOL, but I clean my oven by sprinkling bi-carb all over then splash with white vinegar and scrub with a plastic brush... you can also use this method on a cloth if needed. You may have to do tough areas twice, but it is not difficult. Then rinse/wipe out with clean water.

My oven was pretty bad and this worked a treat!

I like the sound of the bi-carb but last time I used it took months of me constantly wipping out the damn oven to remove the residue.

Re windows - Do you do them inside and out at the same time?

Hi Bek - i find the best thing for cleaning windows is detergent - just the dishwashing variety in a bucket of warm water - then you wipe it straight off with a lint free towel. Comes up a treat every time. I even do my shower screens this way.

The best oven cleaner I have used is Oz Kleen oven cleaner it comes in a box with the cleaning solution, gloves and plastic bag. You put some solution in the bag put in the racks and leave to sit for a while then you wipe the solution on the walls of the oven and leave that for a while also. After a few hours you rinse the racks and then wipe out the oven and its all clean. I thought this stuff would be overpowering but it was ok.
My oven was really really bad I tried bicarb and vinegar but it just could not clean it.
Another quick way to clean just the racks is to soak in the laundry tub in hot water and lectric soda the stains just wipe off.
As for cleaning windows get hubby to do them
