I have a wool filled 'doona', which I have washed in my washing machine a couple of times. Now it started off "queen size", but is now a bit smaller. Which doesn't overly bother me, I have it on top of our doona on the bed, but it doesn't have a cover on it. I was thinking of using it as the wadding part of a quilt, but will it continue to shrink when washed?
I'm hoping it won't, because I would really like to do something with it, and not just have it bare on the bed. It doesn't look all that nice, and if I could make it into a quilt, then it would be a warm quilt (instead of a cold polyester filled one), and would look (fingers crossed) really pretty.
It's the wool felting together. I would say it probably will continue a little bit at a time until it's completely felted. Are you using a cold gentle wash and wool wash?
That recently happened to my (very expensive at the time) 10yo king sized wool doona. Only it wasn't me it was the dry cleaner. And, it felted down to a queen size (so a good 30cm lost all round).
