Cleaning white enamel stove top thingos

I have a gas stove top which is about 15-20 years old. The round plate things that surround the flame (there's probably a name but I cant think of it right now!) are stained. I have scrubbed them with Jiff, ajax, spray and wipe, detergent.....but they still wont clean.

Am I doomed to grotty stovetop plate thingos forever? Or, can someone tell me how to clean them???!!!!!

    Much thank yous.

Try bicarb and vinegar. I sprinkle the bicarb over the stove then pour vinegar over it then when it's finished bubbling I scrub it with a non scratchy scourer

    Doomed!

I have the same style- and nothing cleans them!

I have seen foil type contraptions to put over the plate- you could try those to cover the stains.

Take them off the stove, spray them with auto degreaser and let sit for a few hours (in a bucket or something, outside).

Ps, my Mum has used (and swears by) degreaser to clean her oven, since the really caustic and nasty oven cleaners are no longer available.

    Thanks everyone!

    I just did an experiment.

One hotplate I used bicarb and vinegar. The other I used spray on oven cleaner (Easy Oven or something).

I left for 10 minutes or so then scrubbed with steel wool pads.

The winner?? The bicarb and vinegar. They are not entirely clean as I ran out of muscle power but they are much, much better than they were. I will do it again tomorrow.

    Thanks

Bicarb and vinegar is wonderful! I have used it to clean my oven door and oven as well.
