I make it everyday with the European pillows and all! I love it!
I am very slack when it comes to housework but I HAVE to make the bed. By this I mean shaking the doona so it's roughly where it should be. And DD insists on this being done before she will bounce on the bed.
Basically, I can live with all sorts of domestic slackness as long as the bed is made.
I love a made bed... but I have to say there is something somewhat alluring and fun about an unmade bed. I don't know what it is maybe it's a rebellious feeling because I was an avid bedmaker all my life. But on a weekend I love my bed not made and walking in and just lying amongst the rustled sheets. BUT I love a freshly made bed with good crisp linen too. So just call me a freak.
i make the bed everyday...but sometimes not until i am about to sleep it in LOL! i have this *thing* where i like to go into a made bed...
also since we moved house we are now in a terrace that sits right on the street and have massive windows, so if someone were to try hard to look in they could see in...so extra incentive.
funnily enough though, i make DDs bed the moment she wakes up for the day. and after her nap in the arvo...now that i think about it i am soo displaying double standards on myself LOL!
on change-of-sheet days we air it all out. both the cot mattress and ours gets flipped and turned. not sure if it is useful but is something my mum (hospital corners kinda gal that she is!) drilled into me and it stuck.
:o What??? I'm supposed to make my bed? Oh man. Perhaps i should start. :p
I used to work on a super-yacht and had to make the beds the moment they were wrinkled. I even ironed the sheets and doona covers on the bed to get rid of any stray wrinkles. I think it scarred me. ;)
Yeah, I can live with all sorts of domestic slackness too (although I don't like it), but the beds have to be made. Well, I make exceptions sometimes. Like the day I work, DS is sometimes still asleep in our bed when it's time to leave, and I'd rather give him cuddles than be making the bed before I rush out the door. But no one else is home all day, and I make it when I get home. I can't go to sleep in an unmade bed. Well, I probably could, but I don't want to try it :p. Our house generally has enough crap lying around, I find that making the beds helps it to feel that much neater :).
DH on the other hand couldn't give two hoots, and is so messy in bed, it drives me nuts
If he is in bed alone, he always manages to somehow turn the doona upside down, and back to front. I have to have it the right way up, so I'll move it around until I'm happy, even if it wakes him  I'm such a pedantic b!tch.
I try  I do not suceed most days
Janie, my DH does the same. I often get up in the middle of the night and totally remake the bed because the sheets and doona are not sitting right!
Um no... unless I know MIL is coming over... if she springs a visit on us then I ask them to hold DD whilst I 'go to the toilet' and quickly go and either make the bed or close the door
It drives DP insane because his mum is a hospital corners, made the minute you are out of it kinda gal... me - not so much
I do however, love fresh sheets on the bed and getting into a nicely made bed... the only way I would make the bed each and every day would be to change the sheets each and every day  and that ain't going to happen
Funny you should say that TK as I know someone who changes all the bed linen each & everyday!! This is three beds mind you. And she think's I'm weird because I don't.
Cheezel... :o each and every day. She has my utmost admiration
In summer, when there are two of us in there - I change the bed twice a week - if there are the white sheets on and the cat has decided the bed is where she wants to sleep (like she doesn't have enough beds in this place to sleep - as well as a multitude of chairs!) then every couple of days (she's black)
Wow, I'm not the only one!! I don't know how they manage to do that!
We have the cat issue here too! Our cat is also black and sheds like crazy. I can't believe how many sleeping spots she has claimed: DS's cot, snugglebed, our bed, the spare bed, the couch, not to mention...she has her own bed! I've thrown out so many pillows because she's covered them in fur beyond the powers of washing and the lint brush. We are constantly washing linen in this house because of the black fur - it is everywhere :wall:
Huh! I never used to make my bed - as a kid, my parents weren't the type to care, and as a teen, my bed was a loft up under the ceiling so it was near impossible to make!
When I moved out, and in with DH, I started, as he is obsessive about it, won't leave the house. So now I always do! I never thought about it really, but I do straighten the doona out, and arrange the pillows and cushions, in the morning. Whoever thinks of it first does it.
On the weekneds, I leave everything off to air while the bedding is changed. DH always puts on the new sheets etc., which is a bit of a game, tends to be 30 minute job, with the cat having a ball in the midst of it all lol!
I aim to make them everyday... I agree, it feels "right" to have them done.... it can affect the state of mind. I'm not too hard on myself when it doesn't get done... but I can't remember ever thinking "Gee i wish I didn't make those bed today... what a waste" making them always comes with a feel good factor. Even if 3yo DS jumps all over his. I know that if someone pops over I won't be embarrassed. Plus I find that making them usually turns up dirty and lost items of clothing... that missing sock for example... so it does serve a practical purpose I guess.
Yes! I don't know why I insist on doing it before bed but can't be bothered in the morning!
DP used to make it every morning (he's last out) but he stopped as my pregnancy advanced and my multiple pillows (esp massive body pillow) started to take over the bed. He doesn't like handling what he calls my 'arse pillows' ie I used them between my legs!
LOL - Yep I am this crazy too - I reckon that if the bed is made I tend to keep the place tidy. We make the bed every day too, when DS has his morning nap I shower, make the beds etc. My DH mocks me as ages ago he was helping me and I said "pull it tight" referring to the quilt cover so it was nice and smooth and now our catch-cry when making the bed is "Pull it tight" LMAO
I love the day we change the sheets - there is nothing better than climbing into a freshly made bed with fresh smelling linen, if I was rich and had a daily cleaner I would get the bed changed every day hahahahahahahaha
I make DD's bed everyday... and again after she has her nap.
As for our bed I do make it most days but every now and then I don't bother with it... Like today, DH isn't here, expecting no visitors so I just shut the door so I didn't have to see in there at all! :)
You know it wasn't until reading this that I realised I hardly ever make the bed anymore!
I used to make my bed fastidiously each day, but since moving in with DH 5 years ago... well.. lets say a lot of my compulsive cleaning habits and rituals have eased heheh
I do straighten the bed before I get in at night tho, because I'm a fidgeter and our doona ends up twisted and lumpy and I can't sleep if it's not straight hahaha.
I know this is an old thread, but...
I always used to make the bed every day. I used to just use a doona without a flat sheet, so it was very quick and easy to do. But when DH & I moved in together, he insisted that the bed should be aired each day and preferably exposed to sunlight. So, now we fold the flat sheet and doona down to the foot of the bed each morning. It took a lot of getting used to for me as I like a made bed.
We only make the bed if we are expecting a visitor who is likely to go into that room (otherwise the door is kept shut, so they're not going to see it).
