Do you make your beds every day?

Ok...just curious...how many people make their bed every day? What about the other beds in the household, who does those? How did you learn this was important (or not?)

I know it's one of those things some people are really driven about...my stepmum for example was drilled by her mother that the beds MUST be made before you can leave the house of a morning...if they're not, that's a sign of some kind of moral deficit .

My own mother was pretty slack about this...as a consequence I sometimes walk into our bedroom at the end of the day and the bed still isn't made...when DH was away I quite liked to keep it sort of nesty underneath and just pull the quilt across the top. It was more snug and welcoming that way What do you do?

I tend to straighten up our bed most days, sometimes first things and other times not till after midday. I find our bed gets quite messy and making it gives the room a quick lift, everything looks so much neater.

Somedays I do DD1's, but she seems to be doing it herself now if I ask her to clean her room.

    I'm not a bed-maker.

Although I do straighten everything up before I hop into bed at night! is that weird?!

Well I cannot just cannot leave the house without the beds made...
I am fastidious about it... I am miss hospital corners... I love linen, and nice quilts etc & my beds have lots of pillows etc... I absolutely have to make my bed... My kids all make their own - & are in the habit of getting up, going to the loo, getting dressed & making their beds. (I straighten them up some without them seeing! )

I am the same with dishes. The dishwasher has to be packed before I can leave... Or before I can go to bed...

    What a Q

Of course. I make the bed as soon as i wake up before going to the loo and washing my face. My Dh does nightshift and if i am awake before he comes home, i make the bed and open all the windows so the room airs.
I make both kids beds, well 1 bed and 1 cot. If the kids jump on the beds, i get really cross and remake the bed.
When DH wakes up from his sleep at about 5.30pm (to go to work), i will make the bed, aerate the room and vaccuum the carpet. I must vaccuum!
I cannot sleep in an unmade bed. And plus it looks very untidy.

I *usually* make the bed before I open the house up, because we have huge windows in our room and when I open the curtains you can see if our bed isn't made lol. Although my definition of "make the bed" varies sometimes it means throw the doona over the bed and squish any lumps. Other days it means straighten and tuck in the top sheet and then throw the doona over the top.

But when we lived in a house with 'normal' sized windows, I usually wouldn't bother LOL. Unless I was in a pedantic mood.

It does make the room a look neater, and when i do make the bed nicely (straigten the sheets too not just check a doona over the top hehe) I always look forward to climbing into nice, flat, crisp sheets, not crumpled left-all-day sheets.

I do the same TD... I make it before I even have a shower... It's habit. Windows open, blinds open all good...

I usually make the bed after my morning loo trip....for about the first 3 days after changing the sheets (which probably should be changed more often). Then I get annoyed at being the only one who does it, even if I'm not the last one in the bed, so I go on strike

Thats me too. My mum used to be really strict about us making our beds but DP wasnt brought up like that so maybe i have learnt to be lazy like him. It will be something i will have my kids do.

I make it the day the cleaner comes, otherwise she does it and I'd rather she cleaned than made beds as I don't see it as a huge priority.

On weekends I am more likely to do it because we are around a lot more and I see it - and a tidy bed brightens the whole room. But when we are at work all day, it's just one of those things that is not a priority with everything else that needs to be done in the mornings.

I would like Miss K to get into the habit of doing it though, but I might need to do it myself for that to happen!!

get up, open curtains, make the bed properly!
strip blankets back, straighten fitted sheet and tuck everything in!!
wake DD, do the same to her bed!
funny thing is though, i can let the rest of the houswork go for days, just not the beds!

I make the bed everyday except Sunday - which is when I change the sheets.

I have taught the girls they must make their beds (doonas only, no top sheets) everyday and tidy their rooms before the leave the house too. Both girls change their own sheets every fortnight (they're at our place 7 days out of 14 so every Sunday they're at home) and remake their beds.

I'm so pedantic I even make the bed when we go away and stay in hotels... it drives DH batty

I don't use a top sheet, I just have a doona and pillows so it takes no time to "make the bed". I always make it after I get out of it, which is several times a day because DS has his naps in it. Also, I don't want the cat on the sheets! It looks so much tidier too

I remember hating making my bed when I was younger though. We were just brought up to make our beds, that's how the day started. I also remember not being allowed to sleep in past a certain time (on the weekends!!)

    love your reply TD

I don't really make my bed much at all now that I think about it! I like to neaten it up before getting into it and if I know people are coming over I will make it prefectly... Of course I change the sheets weekly and then love to have the bed looking perfectly made again, but neither dh or I really care... plus it tends to get mucked up even when I make it because we have a cuddle on the bed a few times a day to ahhhh ... My mother made all of our bed daily growing up so I'm not sure why I'm not that strict about it, before moving in with dh I was pretty stressed with life and used to make the bed everyday, since I started my 'new' life I've realised that it's just not a big deal to make the bed, our house is clean, we don't have junk everywhere so really if it's just us around I simply don't mind

Does anyone make the bed as soon as they strip the sheets? Or do you leave it to air for the day?

good Q Leasha, I make it whenever I get to it, after putting the washing on etc... But now that you mention it I think I will leave it till last and air the bed!

I air it! I also hang out the quilts to air & I usually turn on the fan to create more "air"...
