Fireplace door (glass)- best way to clean?

Does anyone have a surefire (haha, puntastic! ) way to clean a glass door on a coonara?

I haven't started yet- it's pretty thick- someone suggested using the ash from the fire- has anyone heard that tip before?

My mum used to get a paint scraper and scrape most off the clean the rest with oven cleaner

Haha, putastic Same as LC here, Dad would scrape off the yuck and then get at it with an oven cleaner. It smelt horrible though!

no to the oven cleaner! Get some newspaper, dampen it, dip it in the ash and start scrubbing. It's a bit of elbow grease, but it shines up nicely and is easy to maintain with just newspaper & water!

Thanks Ladies!!! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll never have any oven cleaner here, so it's good to know 'how' to use the ash!!!

Incidently, if you ever have your hair dyed and it runs onto your skin, the ash will remove it! Woohoo!

I use to use wet newspaper dipped in the ashes and scrub with that. It does work

If you've been burning green or wet wood the door will be dirtier than usual, you might need to scrape that off.

You ladies are the best! Dip the newspaper in a little water, then into some ash and scrub. Came off SO easily, I can't believe it! Do you think I can wash my windows like that? I can't see why not??! LOL Fantastic!!!!

Can't wait for a nice cool night, and a glass of wine with the man in front of our roaring fire (and being able to SEE it!)
