No need to buy expensive cleaners!

You can make a batch that will last for a while with some good quality dishwashing detergent, some cloudy ammonia and some hot water. Give them a bit of a soak in that and then give a bit of a scrub with a soft toothbrush and then a rinse in clean water. Keep it in a sealed jar and warm it when you want to use it again.

This is what I use in my cleaning bath and I'm a jeweller. Also works for sapphires, and rubies etc. Don't use it for pearls (they should just be cleaned with a damp (water) cloth only).

Also don't use toothpaste...I'm begging you

After cleaning down my windows the other day with a window cleaner my diamonds have been sparkling like I have just had them cleaned at the jewellers.
Because we have bought necklaces, braclets and diamond earrings from Michael Hill, we get all our jewellery cleaned there for free.

My jeweller advised me to use a soft toothbrush and dishwashing detergent.

yep same here! Good old morning fresh washing detergent is the best, apparently.

You have just reminded me, my engagement ring is due for it's annual inspection (michael hill) oooh, about 2 months ago!

A girlfriend of mine used to be a pawn broker and she just said the best way of cleaning them was to do the dishes - make sure you're not doing a greasy wash - but something like glasses only
