Top Sheets - Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Bother?

I'm always peeved that you can't buy really high thread count fitted sheets on their own and you have to buy them in a set with a top sheet.

Am I the only one who doesn't use top sheets?

Now partly this is laziness on my part and partly it is due to my dodgy back. I find it hard enough to bend down and tuck in the fitted sheet without then faffing around with a top sheet. And wouldn't you need to re-tuck the top sheet each morning when you remake the bed?

I do see that it means your doona stays cleaner but hmmm....

I love top sheets.... now I am far from the domestic goddess, but they feel so nice!
Another reason is because when the littlies wet the bed I prefer to wash a top sheet than the bankets.... doesn't work all the time. If a little bit of wee does get on the blankets I can cover it up with a top sheet and gfo another day without having to wash all the blankets.... oh the joys!

We never use top sheets and I have just found that you can get just fitteds in high thread count. Sheridan do a 1200 thread count fitted but is a bit pricey....David Jones stock them....Still they work out a lot cheaper than the equivalent sheet set where the flat sheet has literally never been used!!

Other brands do them as well but you have to order them...i searched a few of the sheet makers site found out who does them and then ordered them through our local bedding store that stocks that brand.

$69 for 1000 thread count! I just paid $300 for 1000 thread count sheet set

I don't like to use a top sheet, but dh does. So to compromise, he gets a top sheet, and I get to use any quilt cover I like He doesn't like the girly ones, so they're the ones that go on the bed!

We don't have one on the bed, I get tangled in it and hubby just doesn't like them. I also have the Target 1000 count sets which were just fitted sheet and 2 pillow cases.

I use top sheets when I am feeling particularly OTT lol
And in summer - in perth it is waaaay too hot for a doona (cuvet my Kiwi DH would remind me lol) or a blanket, but I cannot sleep without a sheet over my bum! lol

I NEED a top sheet at home (but am fine to cope out and about)! I absolutely love the feeling, especially with as you say high thread count good quality linen.

Ever since DH & I got married we've always used a top sheet. We don't tuck it each morning (we probably don't make the bed each day like it "should" be done). All we do to make the bed is just pull the sheet & quilt up so it's all straight. It does keep the quilt so much cleaner and we only have to change the quilt cover every couple of months instead of with every sheet change. I also find it better having a top sheet as the weather is warming up because you can kick the quilt off if you need to or easily pull it up if it gets cool during the night.

OMg I'm the opposite. In fact I was very peeved when the last sheet I bought didn't come with a top sheet!

I get too hot without a top sheet, don't ask me why....and I also find some way to get tangled up in the doona unless there is a top sheet.

I honestly thought I was the only one who HAD to have something on them all the time...
Nice to know I'm not alone!

Umm...I love topsheets, but I must sleep a bit like a hurricane and all the blankets are tangled around both of us by morning. So I don't really bother.

    I HATE top sheets.
I find them really annoying, they always get tangled up in the middle of the night, they add to my washing (cause I would still have to wash my doona cover on a regular basis) and I just find them useless. I just use doona covers instead. When it's warmish, I use my summer weight cotton quilt in the cover and in summer, when it's really warm, I use the doona cover on it's own without any filling in it. It's then just like a double weight sheet.
I always buy nice soft doona covers, preferably 100% cotton sateen.
I don't own any top sheets. I actually love the fitted sheets they sell in Germany (that's where I am from). They're made from a slightly stretchable cotton jersey material and are so so soft and stay on the mattress really well. I have some high thread count good quality cotton sheets from here and I find them a bit stiffer and they still crinkle during the night (yes, DH is a restless sleeper). The jersey ones don't need ironing but still come out of the wash looking like they were ironed and maintain that look until they need ironing again.
That reminds me, I have to ask my mum to get me some for my new king size bed when she comes to Australia next time.

I guess it's what you're used to. In Germany (as in the rest of continental Europe), we don't use top sheets, so i grew up without them.
