Donor Conception General Chatter # 9

Tarkine - when it rains it pours! That's so wrong what DH's company is doing. I hope something works out between now and the early months of 2009, so you can really look forward to your baby's arrival and doing motherhood the way you wanted to.

I'm also looking forward to the end of 2008 and taking a break even if only a few days to clear out the stress of managing IVF and work at the same time without letting anything slip. I've got EPU tomorrow morning at 9am - ovidrel trigger went well last night, and Friday will be ET (all going well). I'm so glad, I'm feeling tired, off my food and crampy, and haven't been able to sleep for the last few nights. DH is scheduled for an open biopsy at the same time - the frozen peas are on stand-by! We're going to make a great pair tomorrow.:o

Well, this will be the last update for a while, I'm looking forward to some non-ivf time over the coming tww. We got 10 eggs from my epu, managed to get enough sperm from DH's biopsy to inject 9 eggs, of which only 2 fertilized, but only 1 survived to be transferred this morning. It was grade 1, so that's probably the best news and is now nestled nicely. The sperm they extracted from DH wasn't very good quality, so although FS had hoped at least 6 would fertilize, and we would have had some back-up frosties, I guess we're just so thankful that we have 1. All our hopes are riding on this little embie:pray:. otherwise, it's back to square one. BT is scheduled for 2 jan. Am back at work now, but am going to take off early and just lie horizontal for a few hours (although I know it doesn't make any difference, I just want to give this little embie the best chance).

you have a very restful christmas my sweets and I will keep my fingers crossed for your little embie, I think we could all do with some glad christmas tidings for a change,

it seems alot of us are having some major bah-humbug moments at the minute, mine came Thursday with a phone call from my SIL to say that my mum was being questioned by police at one of our local stores, so I rushed around in a flap with Angus strapped to my tummy to find that she had again attempted to shoplift after lengthy discussion between the store manager, the police and myself (tears included) she managed to avoid being charged but has been given a prohibition notice that she is not aloud in the shop again for 2 years or she'll be charged with trespass.


Despite all of this I am trying to ignore the bad and have a happy christmas with my family as I am not sure how many more christmas's will be 'quality' time with my mum as she is having more trouble remembering appropriate words and the context of words.

I will pop in from time to time for a quick update but this christmas DH will be home (he's on his way as I type) and he will be starting work again on christmas night so we are going to enjoy our family christmas and I wanted to wish you all a safe and happy christmas
and I have wrapped up the biggest box of baby dust and hope and have sent them via Santa claus to place under each of your christmas tree's


you girl's (and guy) have been amazing this year and I seriously wouldn't have made it through with out you all, take care and here's to many more little feet pattering in 2009

Lieve, :pray: for the little embie :cheer: grow embie grow! Take loads of time out for yourself in the next few weeks and just image the little embie tucking itself into the lining and growing big and strong.

As for me I am doing ok... been feeling extremely tired and feeling a little nauseus lately! We are booked in for our scan in the new year... 6th Jan (I think!!). So looking forward to that!! Still have to have weekly blood test till then - but all is going well!!

I didn't get anything for christmas - officially we didnt' get anything for each other for xmas - which I'm not really that fussed about. Instead we had a great day with the family! Although I did buy DH a fairy tale book so he can read it to bubs.

DH and I gave each other presents this year - small ones under the tree, then DH got some music and a guitar case - and I got some gold earrings in the sales!

We're going to see my little niece tomorrow with my family to have another little gathering to give my brother and his family Christmas presents.

hello all,
welcome to a new year...nothing new here, DH has gone back to work and I am doing the home stuff that needs to be done post christmas.

We have had a 'nabbit'(rabbit) move in under Paige's bed apparently, the first we knew about it was when she tapped me on the shoulder at 2:30am and told me that "something scares me!", we tucked her back in and reassured her that there were no 'nabbits' under her bed, she settled for a while then crawled back in to my bed saying 'it scares me'

Well with some rational(?) conversation the following morning we discovered that the 'nabbit' came out of the book and went under the bed and then proceeded to "scare me!!!"
So we talked about rabbits and looked at pictures and talked about the rabbits she visited at her cousins and discussed how Sheppy dog would chase the 'nabbit' away for her so far we didn't see the 'nabbit' last night

Hi All,

Not the start to 2009 I had so dearly hoped for, AF arrived last week and a BT on friday confirmed our very sad :bfn: . We have no frosties or eggs or sperm in storage so it's back to square one. Hopefully DH is able to launch back into another open biopsy soon, as my FS has allowed me thankfully to begin another cycle straight away.

This is such an upsetting time as i know you all know too well. Hopefully as my 2nd cycle progresses I will get my positivity back.

Hope you are all well and may all our wishes come true in 2009.

Oh Lieve I'm so sad for you....be kind to yourself. Make sure you and DH give yourselves time to get through this. We're here if you need us :grouphug:

Thanks for all your support and hugs ladies, makes a world of difference knowing someone else knows what you're going through and although it sometimes feels like it, I'm not alone. Work has been a struggle this week, it's so quiet and I just can't get motivated when there's no pressure on. I'm almost looking forward to everything getting back to normal in the next week or so. But, on the flip side i've just quietly booked myself in for a pampering facial on Friday. :dance:

AFM - Had our scan yesterday and everything went really well! Saw little bub's heart beat which was very exciting! We are a few days ahead of the initial EDD.. so EDD is August 16th! Morning/All Day sickness kicked in last week. Have been sick a few times and the nausea comes in waves.. have also been REALLY tired!! Overall am feeling ok though! We have only told immediate family so far.. not going to tell friends until we are over the first trimester.

Good to catch up with you all... I will be on here a lot more now that the silly season is over!!!

it has gone quick al, but I've been hanging out to meet bubs. I spent the first 3 months, wishing they would move quicker (coz I was praying not to have a m/c), then the next 3 paniking about getting the house ready, and the last 2 worrying how we are going to survive financially LOL!! Plan on spending the next month, enjoying doing what I like when I like!

Paige is 3!!.. now that is scary!!

AFM (like the acronym Joy :D ) Christmas was fairly full on. First we had DH's Mum visiting, then my family Christmas, then we went up to Nan's for a couple of days to make sure that the house was ok over New Years.

Once I came back I have been mainly cleaning the house - trying to get everything in order before I get back, as well as get rid of any mould around the place. The things I am leaving til last include the laundry, the linen cupboard and finally the study - which I have a huge emotional attachment to and I am avoiding at the moment.

I've also had a few visits inbetween like an old friend from school, my BFS, my Aunt and my Mum. I'm going to see a few more people this week.

I've also got to get a few things organised for the new school.

Babywise - we probably won't start again until at least the middle of the year - want to settle into my new job first.

And that's about it for me - a very quiet holiday indeed.

AFM - well it looks like I'll be hanging around this thread longer than i hoped (no offense to you lovely ladies!). After some really poor communication from our FS, it turns out that in actual fact DH's biopsy last year was unsuccessful, and they had to resort to some pretty crappy thawed sperm, and the embryo we had transferred was in fact a grade 3, not a grade 1 as we were originally told! And it was only through paying for a subsequent consultation that we found this out! :wall: We're feeling very frustrated and confused at the moment and feel like we've fallen through the cracks as we're dealing with so many different FS's, nurses, offices, etc. We met with the FS who did DH's biopsy and he's basically told us we have little to no chance of conceiving with his sperm, so if we're going to do another cycle we really need to have back-up donor sperm. So, sadly we're back down this path again. Anyway, i've now cancelled my cycle, as we have to start putting the feelers out for donors.

My question is - i think we both prefer to go with a known donor, but how do you ask someone? And I'd be interested to hear from you girls, how you made the decision to go with either known or anonymous - what things factored into it for you. We met with a counsellor yesterday, so we're trying to work through some of these issues, but there's so much to consider. Also, DH is from europe, so if we were going to ask his brother or friends, there's an added complication.

It's going to take so long.... part of me thinks we should maybe attempt just one more try with DH's sperm - we just need some proper advice from someone who's on top of the whole situation!

Lieve - sorry to hear that you had such a terrible time and that you had to run the gauntlet of the medical profession. :hug:

we went down the unknown donor route because we had no one to ask - DH's brothers made it clear that they weren't going to have children and weren't willing to donate.

You choose the donor on whatever grounds you feel comfortable with - entirely your decision. We went through the clinic who gave us a list of donors and we sat down and read through their profiles - unfortunately we were given loads of information (ie 8-12pages) on overseas donors but only 1 page on local donors. We were also able to get photos of the overseas donors, so we kinda knew what they looked like. There is a limit to the countries where they can get donors from - due to the donor having to be willing to be contacted by the offspring once the offspring are over 18.

There is an SBS series on Making families/babies which looks at all the donor issues, and there are support groups etc which can help.
