Is it ok to reduce DD kindy days before starting school?
Hi,
I've been thinking of reducing DD kindy days down to once per week. Reason being she has a full schedule of activities and lately she's been asking to just stay at home and "relax". I don't want to over load her in her last year before school starts. She seems to like the other activities that she does and she isn't really enjoying kindy atm (room and teacher change, plus some boisterous new boys in the class).
Her schedule is as follows:
Monday - dance
Tues - Playgroup (pre school program)
Wed - kindy
Thurs - Swimming (this ends soon)
Fri - Kindy
Sat - Polish pre school (half day)
Recently she has started Polish school on a Saturday. Another motivation for keeping her home one day is for us to spend some time together before school.
That is a lot on for her. Its completely up to you but I dont think it would hurt her to drop a day at kindy.
In preparing her for school next year you could try to get her in a routine at home ie. Specific eating times like at school, eating out of a lunch box at home, doing a few structured activities IYWIM. I wouldnt really worry about this though until the last quarter of the year.
THat is a lot bek....for you too !!!
Yeah, if it were me, i would drop a thing or two.....your lucky she wants to stay at home and just hang. My oldest is like that, begs on the weekend 'mum, can we just have a day at home'......i know im buggered by Fri night, so imagine how they feel.....
Cherish these last months at home bek where you dont HAVE to go out.....coz for the next 15,16 yrs your going to be picking them up/dropping them off....
I'd be more inclined to keep kinder and drop playgroup or a different activity. Is kinder the year before prep where you are - I get confused as it's different between states . If She's going in to school next year and getting used to a longer, structured program is important.
MBear - Yep I am exhausted with all the running around lol.
Pandora - DD goes to prep next year which is every day from 9am till 2.30. Then they start grade 1.
I wish my DH was not so adamant about her going to Polish school on a Saturday because this is the first thing I'd drop. Maybe dancing could go, but both girls love it. I won't drop playgroup because I am quite involved and on the committee etc.
Have a good think about what activities she won't be doing next year and maybe drop one of them instead. Kinder is a structured environment, like school so I'd be more reluctant to drop that IYKWIM.
