Starting school in 2012

Thought I'd start this so we can debrief if we need it or share excitement.

I'm already getting emotional, especially when I realised there is only 3 weeks kinder left then seeing DD1 in her school uniform.
Where have the last 5 years gone. I'm used to having my mini best friend with me and now she'll be away at school every day wahhh!

Shell, I am so with you on this, when I took DD to her orientation and we had to leave them in the classrooms, I felt a lump in my throat and thought "oh no I am about to cry, I need to leave quickly", I can't even think about the first day of school, ugh, I need therapy for it!!!! I am organising the uniform at the mo and once she puts it on, I will be in tears. But.....on the other hand...and this is what I need to focus on...she is really looking forward to it, she needs it, she is getting fed up at home......so I need to "look on the bright side of life....:

I have to say we're pretty excited too. Darc is soooo ready to go to school. She could have gone this year as her birthday's May and while I'm glad of her extra year at preschool, the next 8 weeks can't go quick enough for her lol.

I haven't got her a uniform or shoes yet. She's grown 6inches and 3 shoe sizes this year and I'm too scared to commit to a size. Our preschool is part of the primary and the office ladies knew Darcy and were very quick to suggest I wait until the fortnight before she starts before I buy her kit. Thank goodness they're open then.

She's been going to fortnightly orientation sessions with the transition class (what we call our prep/kinder classes) for the last 3 months so I'm sure all will be smooth.

DD1 is VERY excited! She can not wait to get her uniform and bag and try everything on!

Me on the other hand is going to need lots of tissues and a good shoulder to cry on. I can't believe time has came where my little princess is off to school!

DD1 had her first school visit last Thursday, she cried for 30 minutes at home then at 8.15 stopped crying and said she wanted to go. She is going to a very small local school and only 3 new students are starting in term 1. We got there and 2 little boys introduced themselves in the play ground which was lovely then when we got to the class room a little boy who went to her kindy last term run up to her and grabbed her hand and said 'Hi Jasmine Ill show you around'. She was smiling so I quickly gave her kiss, introduced her to the teahcer and told her to let the teacher know if she needed the toilet. I left quickly as the longer we draw out good byes the more emotional and upset she gets.

I hate seeing her get worked up about things I know she will enjoy. She had a ball and wants to go back this week. Im hoping the long summer break doesn't take us back to square one

We are going uniform and back back shopping after christmas to try and keep her excitement up. So Im excited for her, sad to see her grow up so quickly and hoping that her anxiety doesn't hold her back for too long.

Dd1 is sooooo excited. My biggest fear is shes going to have noone to play with at lunch and recess the thought of her being alone makes me so sad

Another excited bunch here! Ds1 just cannot wait to go to big school and its all he talks about. There wont be any tears here but he has been in preschool for 3 years so it wont be a big step to go 5 days a week. He definately should have gone this year, he's been driving me crazy but missed the cutoff by 6 weeks.

Ive been putting off getting his uniforms because he has grown so much but we wont be back from Europe until the week before school starts and I dont want to be rushing so might have to buy one size bigger and hope that lasts!

Yup my DS is off to school in 2012 also. He's super duper excited and it's all he ever talks about too!! Alot of his friends from preschool are going to the same school, although I've asked him to not be in a class with a certain boy who is always getting DS into trouble. They can still play in the playground together, I just don't want this certain kid distracting him from learning, and possibly vice versa. I want DS to understand that school is about learning first and foremost, and socliasing is secondary.

I've ordered his uniforms but don't get them until the week of 16 January, and if they don't fit they have ordered bulk stock so will be able to exchange on the day. We find out his teacher and class next week which is really exciting!

How much are everyone's book lists? Ours is $175.00 eeeeeek! Wondering if I should use the reccommended company or see if I can do it on the cheap myself?

I don't have a book list for next year, I'm sending her privately so the fee is enough as it is lol! But in my experience you can do it cheaply yourself it's just the hassle of looking around.

Lots of stuff, including headphones, an art smock, library bag, and phonics activity book (which are all between $10 & $20 each). Multiple of smaller items such as glue, books, pencils etc. We have to buy it all and then the multiples get locked away for when something runs out, the point is so we don't have to buy anything more during the year I think!!

He's going to a public school that puts their money into technology, so not paying fees (only $125 IT levy), and paying $175 for resources is pretty good value! The preppies get exclusive weekly use of iPads, the school is 100% Apple which is different. All the same facilities and extra curricular stuff that the private schools charge $6,000+ per annum for around here!!

I'd buy some second hand uniforms but the school only opened this year so there isn't enough items for them to open the service yet, so uniforms are exxy too - they have to have a dress and sports uniform, just like a private school too. How much has your uniform cost you? for 3 fulls sets including the school bags I've paid $240 so far. Will be around $200 for the winter items aswell. But, I can justify the cost not having to pay fees!

yup, we've got a "book list" - not sure she'll go through 6 work books in prep though! Our book fees are $90. Total for school fees and book list is about $190. Her uniforms (2 x dress, 1 x skort, 1 x shirt, 1 x bomber jacket, 1 x hat) cost me $185. Art Smock is not supplied in our book list and would cost me about $20 to buy from school. Needless to say I'm not getting the school one!

Oh, and her bag cost $45 and reader cover $12.

I got DD's Uniform in a size 8! She wears a size 7 Target pant and the uniform lady said get an 8. It's a it big in the shoulders and length but since she grows like a weed, I'm sure it will fit perfectly by the end of 2012!!!!

We are very very excited though! DD can't wait! I am eager as she is so incredibly ready - driving me batty! I am sad that my wee poppet is so grown up now...but I'm happy for her. And school will be much better for her. We've had nothing but problems at Kinder/Creche this year and we are seriously looking forward to school!....plus I have a month off to help her settle. I've never had leave where I haven't had her in tow! I'll get 7 whole hours to myself! To do what I want! Without interruption! WHOOP!

We have 78 kids across three classes. Dd2 is so excited and very ready. I spent $410 on uniforms but some were for dd1. I was ok with one at school but the thought of two makes me feel old. I keep thinking 'what I'd we had only had two?' then it would all be over ;( I live my babies and I think it's unfair they get them five days a week and I only get them two. Meanies!
