I remember coming home and crying when I was about 17 because a dr. told me I may never have children! They hadn't even done a lap and she told me that!! Anyways after the birth of my son, I went on bcps. I never had any endo pain before giving birth to my son. I just had really heavy AFs.
So as soon as I gave birth I went on bcp which I stayed on for 2 years. When he turned 2, we decided to try for another baby figuring it could take a year or so. The first 3 months off of bcp my afs were fine.. but the 4th month, I started getting really severe abdominal pain- especially during a bowel movement. After a few months of this I seen my gyn who suspected endo. He felt we'd be able to conceive though and gave me pain pills and CLomid to try to speed up the TTC process. After a few more months of this w/still really painful AFs he did a lap and discovered endo. He said my tubes were clear like your Chris but that I had endo all over everything and it was attaching my ovary to my kidney or something like that.. he did remove it all thought we'd get pregnant and we just haven't. That was exactly a year ago this month. I feel like I'm out of options. IDK what to do anymore. :wall:

I was first diagnosed with endo after a lap about 3 1/2 yrs ago. I'd been having painful periods and bowel movements, stomach cramps (even when AF not due) for years but drs never investigated for endo as I was 'too young' (early 20's then) Dr found stage 4 endo near bowel and on the vagina (sorry for tmi!) After the op my gyno advised getting utd asap as this could help stop endo from coming back. DH and I weren't ready then, so I went on the pill non-stop for 3years (no AF). Started ttc #1 in April and haven't had any bad endo symptoms back yet.:crossfingers: Every month I am waiting for things to go bad again, but from what everyone is saying, the longer without AF, the better. I don't htink it's preg as such that helps prevent the endo, just no AF!!
Christal - hang in there. I know what you're saying about ttc, and with endo I feel like it's a time bomb waiting to go off. Most people say I'm still young and have heaps of time to have chn, but I'm worried the endo has already caused problems and we won't be able to conceive naturally. Those words my gyno said are coming back to haunt me - if you want chn, start now, because it could take you a lot longer and you may need help. I thought he was so selfish for suggesting I bring a baby into the world just for the sake of my health when neither dh or I were ready for chn, but now we want a family, I kinda wish I'd listened a bit more closely...

JLeigh~I'mglad you are pain free w/ your endo. I've thought about going back on the pill for a few months w/ no AF then going off of it again and seeing what that would do but IDK if it'd help or not. And the thought of not ttc for 5 or 6 mos while on the pill just makes me hurt. :(

I know what you mean (re going home and crying when the Dr told you). All I wanted was to get married and be mum. The Dr told me back in 1990 that he would like to do a lap but it was still a new thing and he thought it had too many risks. So he put me on depo provera (where I gained 40 kg in 6 months), when I finished that my AF was a little better. I then decided to just deal with it (the pain), because I wasn't going to take any more hormones if they just put weight on me.
Then the pain just got worse and worse so I seen another Gyn and by this time Laps had developed a bit and he did one and told me where the endo was and put me on the pill (with no sugar tablets) to try and stop AF. That didn't work and I kept trying all different "pills" with higher strengths. I got side affects from the pills but AF still turned up every month. I then tried a nasal spray Syranal, and that didn't really work. He then wanted me to try another hormone but when I looked it up I found out it gave you hair (on the face and around your nipples and it would be a permanent thing) so I said no to that. I then stopped everything again and just delt with the pain.
How did the naturopath go?? What did he/she suggest??
I have never been to one. But I have done me own reaserch and taken alot of herbs /vit & min ).

I haven't seen the naturopath yet. My appt was supposed to be last Tues but I ended up having to stay at home because we had an ice storm. I am rescheduled for this Tues. I will update after my appt. & let everyone know what she said.
I'm sorry the pills didn't help w/ the endo Chris.
I am thinking of the naturopath doesn't help me that is what I'm going to try and then maybe surgery again as a last resort.
I wish no one had to struggle w/ this disease that has no cure :(

I am new to this site, so a bit of background. My name is Lisa and I am 35. I've been TTC for almost 18 months.
I've had heavy periods since age 11. It got so bad I would have pain 2-3 weeks prior to period then the 2 days before period I would be bedridden. I would often have sharp bowel pains, sometimes with blood as well as bloating, diarrhea, constipation - you name it! Funny, but I just assumed all women had periods like this and didn't fully investigate until last year. How naive! Most of the women in both sides of my family have endo too... I once had a doctor tell me endo isn't hereditary, what a load of you know what!
I had a lap in Dec 08 and was told I had endo connecting my bladder and bowel to my uterus as well as other spots. But thankfully, nothing on my ovaries and tubes. Last week I had a lap to remove the endo and also had about 10cm of bowel removed. Its been a very tough and painful week (5 days in hospital and at least a few more weeks off work to recover).
My doc tells me that I should be able to fall naturally now and wants us to try for another 9 months before going to IVF. He also told me that he has never seen my kind of endo grow back. I find that hard to believe, but can only assume he is right. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
So I'm now slowly recovering (gee its painful!) and waiting to see if it helps with period pain/cycles and most importantly whether we conceive soon!
I've searched the net for weeks trying to find information on endo, results etc and this forum has it all. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories, really makes me feel I'm not alone.

LW17 - I sympathise. Sounds like you've been through a lot with your endo. I hope your recovery goes well. My gyno told me my endo was just a mm or two away from my bowel, which would've meant a bowel resection like you.
Since my last post I have been getting the same endo pains back, so am not real positive about the endo not coming back. I keep thinking back to my last lap and the recovery (which was long and painful)...

Hi I feel kinda weird posting, because i never really posted about me personally but to be honest I am very frightened about the surgery and maybe not been able to have children. Im still yet to find out how this endometriosis is affecting my body.
ABOUT ME
Im 19 years old and i have been newly diagnosed with endometriosis. I kinda always knew I had it like some of you... but i first suspected last year during my second year of my nursing degree when we were learning about the female reproductive system. Anyhow when i started studying about endometriosis all of these symptoms i have, like the usual; severe cramp (WORST SYMPTOM!), tiredness, moody, stomach aches, constipation, diarrhoea, and headaches. So then I knew that this is the answer to my problem..

You know I always thought once my painful period came since i was 14 that the excruciating pain was normal and was part of been a woman. I would go to work with the pain telling myself not to be a sook and put up with it, because i didnt want people to perceive me as a lazy person at work but the reality was I JUST COULDNT HANDLE IT somedays!. Its weird because there were days were it was just so painful and I would be using pad after pad (So annoying, specially during school) but then there were other days where it wouldnt be as bad, those days were wonderful. The point is that this medical condition is not been made aware to the public and women like myself.
This is just a bit of my story, but im so glad i found this thread even though we are all strangers our words and our experiences really unites us in a supportive way.
I can understand your fear of surgery and the possibility of problems having children.
I have had a lot of surgery over the years and was very young when I was told that I wouldn't have children. I had grown up understanding and accepting this. At 23 years of age, I had dose of the flu that lasted 9 months and produced a son. When he was 4yrs I had to have another LAP and then another and another, and so on. They could only do so much and I had a hysterectomy. Now, I face more surgery again. The endo is back.
The surgery is easy, you sleep through it. The recovery is hard for me because I don't feel that I'm in any more pain than any other time and it's difficult not to do the things that I shouldn't after surgery.
I think my hardest lesson was to accept things as they are and make the most of the life that I have. I just seem to get over one hurdle and there is another one. So now, rather than sprolling through life, I take it in leaps and bounds.
My son is nearly 18 years old now, and he and my husband have always been very supportive. Without them my journey would have been considerably harder.
The bottom line is, no matter what anyone says, you will have to find your own way to cope with everthing that you have to endure. The upside is, there are sites like this where you can read about what other people are going through, and you know that you're not alone.
I hope and pray that you find all your answers.
Dee - good luck with your surgery. When is your lap scheduled?
Pr20 - thanks for sharing your story. You've obviously been through a lot but have kept on keeping on. That's an inspiration.
