Update on the metformin situation... my last cycle was 37 days I'm hoping to have a shorter "normal" cycle this month. Have lost 2.5kg since I started taking it (5 weeks ago) and have not changed my diet on little bit. That is awesome too!

TK - how did you go at your GP?? Have you started back on Met?

Picked up my metformin yesterday. I am on 1500mg a day (one tab in morning, two at night).

Not sure why, but I am nervous about starting. I hate nausea

Really hoping it will help me shift some kgs!!!

Good luck n2l. I managed to lose 5kg in 3 months without changing anything. Metformin also helped shorten my cycles and I got a BFP after the 3rd month so I'm a believer in the stuff. May have to go back on it for my GD but have to speak to my OB.

Hope you don't get many side effects. My only one was diarrhea.

    Good luck Hun xx

You will feel nauseas, most likely have stomach cramps and have diarrhea. I had all those for about 3 weeks. I did manage to drop 9kgs in 6 weeks without changing a thing. I was only on it for 12 weeks and concieved DD 2 months later.

    Thanks everyone

My FS (who is a reproductive endocrinologist) didn't mention starting slowly but based on what I have read I think I will. I took my first tab this morning (with a big bowl of porridge). Not sure whether to just take the 500mg for three days, then add another 500gm at night for another few days, then add the final 500gm at night...

    I guess it wouldn't hurt!

Just took my second tablet. No effects yesterday, so will see how I go today and up the dosage on Tuesday to 1000 if all goes well.

Got on the scales this morning (I am a daily weigher ) and I was 500gm less than yesterday. Haha! I know it's not the metformin but I am pretending it is to keep me motivated

    hi all

Question: did anyone get a metallic taste in their mouth from metformin?

I upped my dosage to 1000mg a week ago and for the past two days I have had the worst metal mouth

Not sure if it is the metformin or not?????

    Thanks!!

I can't answer the question re a metallic taste (although I have heard that is a pg symptom which I never had). I just thought I'd add my story.

I have PCOS & I conceived both my babies on Metformin. I too started on a low dose (1/2 tab) and increased by 1/2 a tab every three weeks. When I got to 2 & 1/2 tabs, I started having side effects (mainly nausea) so dropped back to 2 tabs.

My cycles went from 90+ days to about 40 days with DS & 35 days with DD. I lost a couple kgs with DS too but I didn't lose anything with DD. I was focusing a lot more on eating low GI with DS though. It took 6 cycles (9 months) to conceive DS & 5 cycles (7 months) to conceive DD. I started taking the tabs prior to TTC DD so I would be on the full dose when we started.

Good luck with your cycle N2L

    Thanks Rowellen!

I have been prescribed 1500mg. I started with 500mg on October 29, then upped it to 1000mg nine days later. I am 9dpo today on an IVF cycle (so technically I am pregnant until proven otherwise with one embie on board). I won't up it to 1500mg until after I have my blood test on the 23rd. I have only had a couple of days of diarrhoea early on so symptoms have been ok. Just this metal mouth has now started....

I went back to the GP in August and then to my Gynae in September... still PCOSing away but am no longer insulin resistant which means that metformin will do diddly squat. My Gynae prescribed clomid but I am too scared to start it (scared of what I am not sure).

ETA: My cycles are still all over the shop... currently CD57 with no sight of any ovulation and my 'normal' cycles are usually 41 days... did a HPT but it was BFN

How are the other met mummas going?

    Hi all,

Just thought I would poke my head in with an update.

I am on the full 1500mg (started a couple of weeks ago). The only symptom is a daily dose of mild diarrhea (sorry tmi!)
no real weight loss to speak of (a kilo or two ). I have not had any nausea, cramping or vomitting at all....thankfully!!

Today is cd16 and I had an opk surge yesterday so my cycles are right on track.

One thing I have been reading about is metformin can really help with egg quality. I am praying this is the case!!

Hey n2L I had those same symptoms on 1000mg metformin. It settled down after a week or so.

I believe the metformin helped shorten my cycles a bit, each month for 4 months I would ovulate after less and less time until I was averaging ovulation at around CD 20. I'm not sure about egg quality but I don't think this was or is my issue as I'm still young.

    Good luck babes!!
