hey guys
my name is ashli and i am nineteen years old
i have recently been diagnosed with endometriosis.
i have my follow up appointment to find out how bad it is in a couple of day
but it is taking way to long!!
i have suffered from terrible periods since 13 and have had chronic IBS since the same age. i have recently been on depot but hate it
the endo was a shock, as they thought it was all in my head.
when i found out the dr told me i should start having kids asap as i might not ever get them.
for someone my age i know what i want out of life and i want kids and what that dr said has been haunting me for the past 2 months

Hi Ashli! Welcome to BB. Sorry to hear about your endo. I was diagnosed with severe endo in 2005 and was told I'd never be able to conceive naturally because it had completely blocked my tubes and everything was all stuck together. But 3 years later, I managed to conceive naturally and now have my little man! So there is still hope yet for you

Can I ask how did your doctor diagnose the endo? The only way endo can be diagnosed is through a laparoscopy where they take a look inside you. Having kids doesn't actually "cure" endo. Pregnancy puts it into remission because you aren't having any periods and so the endo can't develop. My periods haven't returned post-partum yet so I don't know what my endo is like at the moment, but some of the other ladies might be able to share their experience.

i had a lap done 2 months ago and i was told i woulld be out by that afternoon. i had to stay overnight and then in the morning they finally told me what was wrong.

Hi Ashli,
I'm sorry that I cant help with advice on the endo front (I hope that your treatment gives you some relief from the pain and symptoms) but at how scary it must have been to hear from your doctor that you needed to start thinking of kids or else you wont have them! My first reaction about your doctor is 'what an irrisponsible comment!'.

I'm not sure what sort of a specialist your Dr is, but irrispective of that, if you want to discuss your options regarding having kids, either now or into the future, I would be asking for a referal (or a second opinion to a more understanding dr) to a fertility specalist (FS) who specalises in treating people with endo. You may find that there will be options for you to help into the future - you may not have to make a decision to start trying for kids now or before you (and your partner) are ready. On that front a good friend of mine who has suffered from endo from her teenage years, recently had a beautiful baby girl, when aged 34 - and she concieved naturally - so there is hope.

Good luck, seek out a good fertility specialist who you trust!
