Exclamation TTC with PCOS after M/C - help?

I've posted this in the TTC after m/c part but someone said it might be worth posting here for the PCOS POV...

I had a M/C in Nov 07 and have been trying on and off (due to OH not wanting to baby dance at the right times) since then and have had no success. I have since been diagnosed with PCOS and the doctor has advised that I take Metformin or Clomid to concieve. I would really like to try some other products before going down the Clomid path.

Does anyone have a list/or can reccomend something that aids with conception? I'm looking into Pre-Seed at the moment but would like some other options? Would especially like to hear from those who have PCOS and have had success? I'm at the point in my life where i'm in a constant cycle of work, home, walk dogs, sleep, work, home, etc and the need to have another person in my life that needs me is all too consuming, making me quite desperate. Its all i think of..

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Abbey B
I have PCOS too and had a missed miscarriage is Oct 08. My gyn put me straight onto clomid after being diagnosed with PCOS because he said if your not ovulating then you can try all you like but nothings going to happen so Im trying to be proactive as Im desperate to conceive again. My cycles are all over the place so I never know when to TTC anyways. Ive heard good things about natural stuff but I just feel like my body is soooo out of whack I need a kickstart in the hormone department. This is my first cycle on clomid 50mg. I havent had any side effects yet. Im really hoping clomid gives me a BFP that sticks! Goodluck to you!

I have not had a m/c, but I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004 when we were ttc our first bub without any luck.

My fertility specialist like erybery put me straight onto clomid. Before I was put on it though I had to do a heap of blood tests, ultrasound to see how many follies I had and the extent of my PCOS. I was put on 50mg of clomid and it wasn't to bad. The worst part was the hot flushes, thats it. And we conceived 2nd cycle with our gorgeous daughter Gemma, then when we ttc again I went straight back onto clomid and conceived 1st cycle.

I wish you all the best hun....fingers crossed for a bfp soon!!

    Smile metformin

    Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with PCOS and have cyst on my ovarys and have just started taking metformin and i was wondering if clomid is the same or better than metformin?

Sounds like the clomid is effective.

    Thanks

    Hey,

I am in the same boat - last m/c was in Jan 07, and we had 2 others before that one. I also have PCOS.

My advice would be find a good ob/gyn who specialises in fertility - even with help it can be a long road.

Metformin is a drug that affects the way that insulin is used by the body in order to use glucose. Many women with PCOS have insulin resitance, so it is often used with these women to improve symptoms - even for those women who are not TTC. For women who are TTC metformin can improve ovulation.

Clomid is a drug which is specifically used to improve ovulation.

From memory at the PCOS conference last year (through the POSAA) some studies where discussed which have shown that the most effective drug combination for ovulation in PCOS women is metformin and clomid together, followed by metformin on its own followed by clomid on it's own. But each woman's case is different so best to see someone who knows what they are doing.
