How often do you speak to your mum?

Probably every 2nd day, but send sms's almost daily too. Mum is our caregiver for our kids on Fridays but while I have been on maternity leave we've all spent fridays together which has been lovely as previously with both of us working I really missed that Mum/Daughter time, I am going to miss it again when I return to work in a few weeks.

Mum's one of my best friends, she is so supportive of DH and I, and is just perfect with the kids, she upholds our parenting style and is so easy going, knows when to back off or speak up, very intuitive. We are taking her on holidays with us in November for a week - DH actually suggested it as they get along so well.

I know I'm super lucky to have such a great Mum. We've had our moments though, when I was younger I certainly didn't appreciate and respect her like I do know. I think becoming a Mum makes you realise how much your own Mum loves you.

Several times a day, usually. Mum spends several months of the year overseas and I really miss her the first few weeks she is gone. I'll think of something totally banal that I 'need' to tell her, but it will be 3am there and I can't justify the cost of the call to talk about nothing anyway! I usually adjust after the first few weeks, but I still miss her.

So sad for all of you who have lost your mum or who don't have a good relationship with yours. Mine drives me crazy sometimes, but I love her to bits.

She hasn't bothered with me in 7 years. I am jealous of you ladies with good mums :)

Barely ever. One of the reasons I deleted Facebook was to be in contact with her less. She lives 12 hours away, and I might see her 1-2 times a year with a handful to texts thrown in between.

Like lisaandshaun and hetty- bad relationship so now not spoken over 18 mths. Wasn't very close before that either though. She found out about her soon to be born grandbaby over Facebook by accident, mentioned it to my sister but hasn't bothered to ask again.
I never look forward to Mother's Day, other than for my now MIL, and hopefully this year I'll be a mum!
My children will never know what's its like to have a mum like mine.
I have aunts that are more like my mum than my actual mum!

Sorry for downer post but hopefully others will be grateful for the beautiful mothers they have.

I probably talk to her every other week. We're both just too busy - we both work and by the time we have time to call, it's too late. But I don't *need* to call her all the time kwim? Our family is the kind who functions quite well with limited contact - we all know what's going on for each other and we're close, but we don't tend to live in each others pockets. So it can be a while between drinks so to speak.

I used to talk to MIL quite often - but her own DD calls her at least once a day, sometimes several times a day and usually for over half an hour or more at a time. So it gets a bit full on for MIL and she often comments how much she hates it because she gets nothing done. So I don't call her much now. my other SIL calls ALL her family every day - and she has 5 brothers and sisters! But she's a very needy person and can't function unless she's having daily contact with her family.

I couldn't be with out my mum, but she makes me feel crap at the same time. We text pretty much every day when she's not working (7.30 - 5.30 then at least an hour travel). Phone calls are only for if she's only in service for a few hours. Sometimes with work they're out of service for weeks on end.

I like that she understands/tries to understand my issues with the kids (DD2 & DS mainly), & that she's always reading & suggesting things. But then I hate the 'you kids never did that. You kids slept 12 hours a night' etc etc. Makes me feel like I'm a crap parent sometimes. I hate hinting I need a break from them & she doesn't get it, I hate ASKING for a break & if I get a yes I feel guilty, but it could've been a straight out no.

I can't be myself. Mum has never really had friends. She looks down on people a lot. I'm pretty easy going, love my friends with all their faults & like a drink. I like to party, more like dad :lol: She doesn't get that & its hard when I just need to get out & have a good time, but she doesn't get why.

I don't spend as much time WITH my mum, coz dad can't handle my kids :/ He loves them, but they drive him up the wall & he looses it & says nasty things. DD2 especially & she's very sensitive :(

MIL (ex) & I are pretty close too. More facebook/fb message, but usually at least once a week. I miss her a lot, coz she likes to party too ;) I am myself with her. It's awesome.

I speak to both my mum and my dad at least once a week for over an hour, but often several times a week.

I don't even want to think about not being able to do that.

I used to speak to my mum alot more then I do now, used to be every day at least once sometimes more then once a day. Now we speak every 3 days or so but sometimes can be as little as once a week.

Since meeting and being with DH my dependence on her has lessened, so I see that as a good thing, but we are really close so I know she is there no matter what, when ever I need.

Daily, if I am away, a text daily.

My mum is toxic - I'm lucky if I speak to her once a year but I do text regarding DD going to visit her dad in the holidays as they live in the same town & it's the only chance she gets to see my DD (goodness forbid she makes an effort)

I miss her but it's not real, I miss what I want her to be but it's not going to happen so I had to move on. I have beautiful aunties & a step mum who is not overly expressive emotionally but she's a strong lady & has been a great role model.

I entered counselling when I was 26 & my reason was to make sure my daughter does not grow up with a mum like mine.

I am blessed to have wonderful parents and I can't imagine what it must be like not to. For those who don't speak to their mums/dads do you ever worry history may repeat and your own children won't speak to you?

Genuine question. It would kill me if my DD didnt speak to me when she is grown with her own family :(

My dad stopped talking to his dad, and now we have stopped talking to him (actually its he who has stopped with us - but it's a bit mutual...) so.. Yes... It has worried me for a long time that this would happen... I would be devastated if it happened with my own child. But I will be working so very hard and make conscious decisions about how I interact with my kids (if I get any)... So FX I can stop the cycle...

I miss my mum every day, and I wish she called me more. I hate that she always seems so busy. I wish she knew how to be what I need her to be, but I know that she too, for her own reasons, is just surviving... And in the end... It is DH and I that need to be there for each other, cause he is my everything, and he will be the one who gets me through. She can't. No matter how much I want her to. It makes me sad, because she used to be my everything. I just don't know how to get it back.

Sorry, I digress...

See her once a week for Sunday lunch (my whole immediate family gets together) and I will often email her a couple of times during the week on top of that. My dad more so.

Every day, be it just a quick text to say hi. My mum is the BEST!

I havent spoke to her in about 18 months now. Shes not what id call a mother and has told us she wishes she hadnt had us. Im close to my aunty and always have been. Its heartbreaking tbh x

Most days. I love my folks to bits and while we are living just around the corner from them, we are making the most of it and see them as much as possible too - often 4-5 times a week. They're great value, can't imagine my life without them. I feel very blessed.

Almost every day via text messages, and I visit a few times a week. We find it strange and a bit lonely if we don't see each other often :lol: Though on her end she tries to disguise it as needing to see Amelia :p We're very close, I can't imagine not having a good relationship with my Mum. I actually cried when I found out DH's mum isn't in his life - it was the first time I'd really come across anyone who wasn't close with their mum :-/

She and my Nan had this fantastic connection, and I was starting to rebuild a strong relationship with Nan when she died. I can only assume that'll continue with her and Amelia as well.
