I speak to and generally see her everyday. I love her :)
Im very much the same as you chody! My mum and I dont have the best relationship and there is a lot of hurt there. We do talk and are trying to work through it for future grand babies sake, but I am much more open and closer to my MIL! :)
I usually speak to my mum every second day or so, I see her nearly as often, but sometimes only once per week when the family catches up for Sunday dinner.
We only live about 5-10 mins away (about 15-20 in traffic) so we're close as well :)
I lived both with and away from my parents until the age of 24, we have been close, closer at times, then others not so, but I think we have a good relationship.
Sometimes we will speak every day or 2, then not for a few weeks...
Since I have moved about an hour away now, we try to do a "family" dinner thing on Friday nights, but we just cant afford the petrol to drive down there as often as would like...so we try for every fortnight.
I miss living close to her.
I don't speak to the woman that gave birth to me.
but my MIL on the other hand, is the best, and I talk/see her almost every day.. she is the universes way of making it up to me!
Mum and I talk on the phone maybe 2-3 times a week but generally text daily. My parents live interstate but they joined the "grey nomads" several years ago and are often in Bris over the cooler months. And even then they fly up to see us for Xmas or other special occasions. In fact they arrive in their caravan on Saturday, just in time for mothers' day :)
I read this thread last night and was so happy for, and jealous of all the girls that have great relationships with their mums :grouphug: I have a really bad relationship with mine and would never just ring her for a chat. She doesn't even bother to call us for our birthdays. I moved out of home when I was 15 and over the years, our relationship has gotten more and more strained. I find it very uncomfortable to spend time with her, and most major events in my life have a 'mum drama' associated with them. My engagement, my wedding, the birth of all of my children, Christmas all have resulted in some form of major blow up with her. One example is when we found out we were having twins, she said "Ohh.. Out of all of you girls, I'd always hoped it wouldn't be you that got twins". Just for the record, I think I am a great mum and love having twins. I could go on all day..but I won't :) I decided this year was the year I let go, and realised that I have so many other people in my life that love me so very much. It is very hard work and very hard to let go of though. For those that asked if I was scared of history repeating itself, I would say no in my case. I work very hard to make sure my children feel love and comfort from me. I tell them I love them every single day. I could not ever imagine not celebrating their birthdays with them, or being a part of my grandchildrens life when my kids have babies. I also see parenting role models in people other than my parents. I am super close to my 3 sisters (who have the same, and understand my relationship with my mother), I have friends who have parents who are terrific and I also have a best friend whose mother has passed away, and I see how much she loves and misses her. My DH is also very close to his mum and she is a terrific grandmother to our kids. Mothers Day makes me very uncomfortable because I feel like a fraud when choosing a card that says "You're a great mum!!" because she is not. For all those that have a great mum, make sure you give her a extra big squeezy cuddle xx
numerous times a day
Never. It's been 2 years since I last spoke to her.
Everyday. We work together. On the weekends we call each other. I am blessed to have her. She is the best.
Most days, it varies sometimes we can go the week without a call then other weeks daily.
We are lucky we live close by & we drop in the kids love it and have a great relationship with their grandparents.
Me not always so close with my parents but like some of the others have said, having kids myself & getting older changed most of that for me, we all make mistakes and are products of how we were raised and the things that happened to us...I know I am no the perfect parent & I would be devestated if my kids walked did'nt see me or hardly ever talked. :shakehead:
I can only do my best & tell them "I LOVE YOU"
As little as possible
very rarely. maybe once every 3-6mths. I usually initiate contact. I moved to the other end of the state when I turned 18 and she's bitter about that. She's bitter about most things. When DS was born she flew down for 5 days..... first time she'd come to visit me in 8yrs. basically if I didn't fly up to see her, I didn't see her. I haven't seen her since DS was born 2yrs ago. She's coming to see this baby when its born. I am not looking forward to having her in my home again. The only thing that I'm slightly excited about is showing her how awesome my life is, my home, my babies and how I learned all this on my own. She was not a good parenting role model IMO. Knowing her though she won't want to acknowledge what a great life I've made for myself here.
I won't repeat her mistakes.
I'm told my MIL was an awesome lady but sadly she comitted suicide when DP was a teenager. We keep a portrait of her in our living room and I look to her to guide me, despite the fact we never met. I was however lucky to meet HER (adoptive) mother, DPs grandmother. She is beautiful and treats me as if I'm one of hers :). I love that lady and it's sad to see her deteriorate in her old age.
Every couple of days, usually via text or a FaceTime. We try and see each other in real life at least once a fortnight.
We emigrated here from England in Nov 2009 and I've only seen my parents in person once since then (last year) but I call mum every Sunday and Wednesday and we text a few times in between. I've always been close to my parents and even though we're now the other side of the world it doesn't seem that far as we talk so often.
My sister lives a few hours drive from our parents and I speak to them more than she does :(. There's nothing wrong with the relationship, she's just not family orientated.
my parents only live about a 5m drive away and I usually go round there with the kids a couple of times a week. then I might speak to her on the phone once as well
My mum died when I was 11. But I have a great relationship with my MIL and we speak/visit her every week.
Usually once a week. We have every Sunday nigh dinner at my parents house with all the siblings who happen to live in Canberra. ;)
